DC has an interesting slate of movies and shows coming in 2025 to kick off a new period for the franchise!

2024 was, in many ways, the end of an era for DC Comics. The Dceu, with its tortured history, ended with the year prior with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom sinking fast, so there weren't any new films from that franchise this year. The CW's Arroweverse also closed out after 12 years with Superman and Lois, while their animated film universe also ended with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.

It's a new day for DC Comics on TV and film, with James Gunn and Peter Safran crafting a new DC Universe. There have been shifts as The Batman II is now delayed until 2026, and other projects are in the works. So DC's 2025 slate isn't as huge as Marvel's, but there are new notable entries coming, so here's a calendar of...

DC Comics is preparing to bring back Zatanna with a brand-new and in-continuity solo series. Along with other characters like Black Lightning, the Question, the Challengers of the Unknown, and more, Zee is the latest "minor" but fan-favorite DC character to take back the spotlight in an All In-era miniseries.

DC has announced that the all-powerful magician will return in February 2025 for a six-issue miniseries, Zatanna, by writer/artist Jamal Campbell and letterer Ariana Maher. Though Zatanna has appeared many times in recent years as a supporting character - especially in Bat-Family and Justice League Dark stories - she is finally starring in an in-continuity story all her own in the new year, with a full supporting cast to boot.

Warning: Spoilers for Batgirl #1!DC just brought an abandoned Batgirl codename back in an exciting way, in the debut issue of the character's new solo series. Cassandra Cain can be viewed as Batman's greatest success and as Batgirl, Batman's one true successor. However, fans often forget that she wasn't always Batgirl. Very briefly, she went under the name Orphan, but because the name never caught on with readers, Cass reverted to Batgirl.

Batgirl #1 written by Tate Brombal, with art by Takeshi Miyazawa takes a moment to pay homage to Cass' time as Orphan and what that part of her identity means to her.

Whether readers remember that part of the character's early history as a DC hero or not, it's still something that happened and, thus, plays a pivotal part into who Batgirl is today. In other words, if Batgirl can respect her past as Orphan, so should fans.

In less than a month, DC fans will be able to enjoy a new Batman animated series. Bruce Timm, who co-created Batman: Caped Crusader with Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams, recently revealed that the cartoon will pick up with Bruce Wayne only weeks into his career as the Dark Knight.

In an interview with Empire, Timm who notably co-created/produced the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series and other DC Animated Universe series shared that "Batman is so early in his career that in the first episode, hes still an urban myth." He added that Caped Crusader is "more like Week Two" than "Year One," the iconic Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli Batman origin comic from 1987 that was previously adapted as an animated feature in 2011.

Batman: Caped Crusader will feature reimagined takes on iconic Dark Knight villains. Series co-creator Bruce Timm recently opened up about the decision and in the process revealed what fans can expect from Caped Crusader's Two-Face.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Timm explained the major change they made with Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Instead of Two-Face starting as an honest district attorney whose burn scars drive him to villainy, he will be presented as a corrupt Da who uses his position to help rich criminals evade justice. "We thought, 'Well, what if he starts off as kind of a schnook? And then when he gets his face disfigured, for the first time in his life he actually feels empathy for other people,'" Timm said. Although still a villain, Two-Face believes what he is doing is for righteous reasons.

J.G. Quintel’s new “Regular Show” and Craig McCracken’s “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” spin-off both feature in a new production slate from Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.

Unveiled Wednesday at Annecy to an appreciative crowd at Annecy’s MIFA market, which greeted multiple shows with whoops of enthusiasm, the two new announcements join a new “Adventure Time” series, “Side Quests,” as greenlights at the Warner-owned companies.

The new slate also boasts two more “Adventure Time” shows in development, plus an unannounced Scooby-Doo project.

The big question raised by the studio’s Annecy focus is whether the surge in new shows is a temporary anomaly or marks a broader indicator of a more sustained return by Warner Bros. Discovery to fuller-on animation production after the lull of the recent past.

A new clip from the upcoming DC animated movie, Merry Little Batman, featuring Mr. Freeze, has been released.

Fandom shared the 59-second clip on X, which shows the Dark Knight being lured out deep into the winter wilderness by Mr. Freeze, voiced by Dolph Adomian, who seems to be doing an impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The beloved action star and former professional bodybuilder previously played Mr. Freeze in the 1997 live-action movie, Batman & Robin. After Mr. Freeze tries out more than one "lame" (according to Batman) ice pun out on the Caped Crusader, the clip continues with the two DC characters getting caught up in an avalanche. Batman fans eagerly anticipating the release of Merry Little Batman are in for an early Christmas treat. Prime Video announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the animated film premieres on Dec. 8. The update came with a description that might surprise franchise fans, saying "This holiday season, join Batman, Alfred Pennyworth, and young Damian Wayne in an epic adventure to save Christmas in Gotham City." An earlier tease of the movie's plot suggested Damian Wayne fending off crooks and supervillains alone in Wayne Manor on Christmas Eve. This leaves the X post open for interpretation as to the extent of Batman and Alfred's involvement in the adventure.

Annecy — London-based Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe is set to initiate production next week on “Beast Boy: Lone Wolf,” the first time than a DC title that will be made out of the U.K.

The announcement was made at a studio focus for Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, whose fan favourites had a student/exec audience hollering in approval.

Introduced by Sam Register, president of all three companies, the focus must rate at the fastest-paced of all big studio unveils at Annecy, packed by never-seen-before footage of multiple shows. Register didn’t talk strategy: The audience wanted to see shows, and studio execs were excited to show them.
