I have seen it twice and I can say that's not enough to catch all that outburst of pictures, ideas, thinking, expressions, meanings. Young woman remembers her 10th birthday and when her father left the family. Her name Electra refers to a Greek mythology and so called "Electra's complex" as she hates her mother and blames herself for father's departure. Fantastic spring of artistic thinking and techniques! Electra is the student film as Daria graduated last year from FAMU Prague and as a Czech I am glad that she now received Czech citizenship, she is originally from Tadzikistan and via Russia came with her husband to study in Czech Republic.
It's a great visual spectacle. Great editing, keeps your attention focused. Unfortunately, the content is rather uninteresting. The subject matter alone will probably only appeal to a small group. The author seems to be trying to deal with her own experience, but even from that perspective it doesn't bring anything more than a description of her own emotions, lacking a deeper conclusion. It reminds me a bit of Svankmajer's works - visually original, disturbing but uninteresting in content. If the author develops a more interesting script in the future, there is potential for a really interesting film.
