James McAvoy in Speak No Evil (2024)

Review by nanagladys

Speak No Evil

6/10

IF IT WASN'T FOR JAMES...

I believe that James McAvoy is definitely one of the best actors of our time. And his part in this remake is the only reason I went as high as a 6. I went into seeing this not realizing that it was a remake, I don't like to know too much about a movie going in, the less I know the better plus I hate spoilers! So I'm sat there and I'm thinking Ive seen something like this, my brain is not at it's finest this week but I was so disappointed when it clicked that I knew what happens next. I have never understood why non Hollywood movies need to be given an American makeover, it gets dumbed down and it's a bit insulting to the viewer, and to do so only two years after the first one is just unnecessary. Maybe I allowed myself to be swept up in the hype and build up because I thought it was just ok. It didn't have the same tension as the original and of course I knew what happened in the original version. The silver lining in this was getting to watch Mr. McAvoy do what he does best for 1hr 50m. That I could never tire of!
