'Ready or Not' Sequel Adds Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood & David Cronenberg to the Game
Image
Anticipation of a Ready or Notsequel has been building since it was announced in October, and new cast additions and an unveiled title are sure to add fuel to the fire. The sequel, now aptly titled Ready Or Not: Here I Come, has added horror staples Sarah Michelle Gellar and Elijah Wood, alongside Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and the iconic master of body horror, David Cronenberg. These new additions will appear alongside the returning Samara Weaving, who will reprise the role of Grace, the newlywed from the original 2019 film, and Kathryn Newton.

In a statement (via Deadline), the filmmaking team behind the original horror comedy, Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, shared:

"We're thrilled to be returning to the world of Ready or Not with Samara, Brett, Avery and Andrew, and so excited to work with this immensely talented cast and the incredible artists across every...

Horror Team Radio Silence Signs with CAA (Exclusive)
Image
Radio Silence, the horror filmmaking banner known for reviving the Scream franchise, has signed with CAA.

The banner was previously at UTA.

Radio Silence, comprised of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, most recently directed Universal’s 2024 vampire thriller Abigail. Producer Chad Villella is no longer with the outfit.

Radio Silence made segments of horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, delivering their feature debut with the supernatural horror movie Devil’s Due, which bowed in 2014 and grossed nearly $37 million on a $7 million budget But it was their 2019 black horror comedy Ready or Not that became a breakthrough hit, grossing more than $57 million on a budget of around $6 million.

That led the team to tackle a resuscitation of the Scream franchise, first with Scream, in 2022, and then Scream VI in 2023. The movies starred Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The duo departed the franchise in order to make Abigail, which starred Barrera,...

Ready Or Not Ending Explained
Image
Ready or Not's ending reveals the complex rules of the celebrated horror film's deadly game of hide-and-seek. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Devil's Due), Ready or Not stars Samara Weaving as Grace, a beautiful bride marrying into the fabulously wealthy Le Domas family. Immediately after saying "I do", Grace learns from her new husband Alex (Mark O'Brien) that she must play a game at midnight as part of their eccentric tradition for anyone new joining the family.

A gleefully entertaining black comedy crossed with gruesome survival horror, Ready or Not is layered with a complex set of rules and mythology that is revealed throughout Grace's ordeal with her in-laws from hell. According to the Le Domas dynasty, Grace must survive the night to gain acceptance into the family — as if she would still want to be a part of it after her nightmarish post-wedding ordeal. The sadistic...

3 seasonal Star Trek episodes that will put you in the celebrating spirit
Image
Merry Star Trek! It's the end of December and that usually means that a lot of Star Trek fans are gathering around fireplaces, cozying up on couches, and tuning into their favorite holiday classics. If you celebrate Christmas, this time of the year carries a certain aura about it. It's a wonderful collision of gifts, lights, and dynamic designs.

Sadly, for Star Trek fans, there isn't a treasure trove of holiday specials. Really, the only time we see Christmas celebrated to any degree is in Star Trek Generations, when Jean-Luc Picard sees the family he could've had while in the Nexus.

Outside of that, not so much. So we're left with a collection of episodes that borrow themes, or telegraph the Christmas spirit in some minor way. Usually though, if a holiday is used, not even just Christmas, it's usually an idea in the background and not a major concept for the episode.

The sequel to 2017 horror Ready or Not is finally heading towards production, original directors Radio Silence and star Samara Weaving will return.

Despite the busy schedule of Radio Silence and the original film’s star, Samara Weaving, there have been talks about a sequel to Ready Or Not for several years. According to Deadline, Radio Silence have confirmed the sequel is happening and production will begin soon.

Weaving will return as Grace, and the actor said recently of the sequel, “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in…I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together”.

Directorial duo Radio Silence – Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – have built up a hugely successful filmography over the last few years.

This Characters Resurrection In Once Upon A Time Season 3 Totally Ruined Peter Pan's Fate
Image
The third season of Once Upon a Time aired one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the whole series. The mid-season finale saw Peter Pan threatening to cast a dark curse that would torture the heroes for all eternity. The only way to stop Pan was for Rumpelstiltskin to sacrifice himself. So thats what he did. Rumpelstiltskin used the dagger of the Dark One to kill Peter Pan, selflessly sacrificing himself for the safety of his family and loved ones. This scene was so heartbreaking as he had to sacrifice himself in front of his true love and his family.

His sacrifice was the most noble and heroic thing audiences had ever seen Rumpelstiltskin do. However, the character was brought back to life just two episodes later, taking away from the selfless act. As well as this, the resurrection of Rumpelstiltskin without Peter Pan makes no sense, as it broke the price of magic.

All 7 Directors Of Shudder's V/H/S Beyond & Their Film Careers Explained
Image
V/H/S/Beyond features segments directed by seven filmmakers with varied horror experience. The upcoming movie is the seventh installment in the found footage franchise, which kicked off in 2012. Typically, each installment features a wraparound segment featuring a character or group of characters discovering a collection of tapes that contain the anthology's short films, which are written and directed by different teams. One installment a year debuted before a hiatus between 2014 and 2021, at which point the streaming service Shudder began premiering themed installments, again at yearly intervals, with the theme of Beyond set as science fiction.

Over the years, the V/H/S franchise has featured segments helmed by quite a few up-and-coming directors including Pearl's Ti West, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's Adam Wingard, and Loki's Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as well as more established horror filmmakers such as The Blair Witch Project's Edardo Sanchez, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City...

"G.I. Joe Meets The Boys": The Ultimate '80s Task Force Returns in The Disavowed
Image
Devil's Due's "The Disavowed" brings back an '80s task force with a darker edge than G.I. Joe. With a crowdfunding campaign launching on August 20, the series follows the United Five as they face a threat from their past. Fans can expect a fantastical, brutal story that pulls no punches, with familiar characters in a unique spin.

G.I. Joe is back in comics in a big way thanks to Skybounds Energon Universe, but the franchise's previous publisher is getting back into the military action/adventure game, albeit with a twist. Devils Due is getting ready to launch a crowdfunding campaign for The Disavowed, the ultimate '80s task force who disappeared in the '00s and who find themselves called back into action to deal with a threat from their past.

Launching on Backerkit on August 20, The Disavowed comes from the creative team of Devils Due founder Josh Blaylock...

Every Radio Silence Movie, Ranked Worst To Best
Image
Radio Silence's horror movies, from the debut in V/H/S to the recent Abigail, showcase their evolution and unique blend of creativity. Ranking Radio Silence's films, like Ready Or Not and Scream series, is difficult due to individual preferences but each offers something different. The Radio Silence team's ability to balance humor, gore, and original storytelling shines in films like Ready Or Not and Scream 2022.

The horror movie genre found popular modern creatives with the Radio Silence team, and the strength of their work makes ranking their movies from worst to best a difficult task. The horror filmmaking collective Radio Silence has been active since 2012 when they made their cinematic debut with a short in the successful anthology horror movie V/H/S. The group includes producer Chad Villella and directors/writers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who have gone on to helm major franchises like Scream.

Criminal Minds Cast & Character Guide
Image
After a long wait, Criminal Minds: Evolution is finally back, with Season 2's premiere episode dropping recently. The Criminal Minds spinoff series shows no signs of stopping, either, as the folks at Paramount+ already renewed the show for a third season. A few notable faces have been missing from the show, but many characters could still return in a future Criminal Minds season.

Criminal Minds is a police procedural drama that aired from 2005 to 2020, with its soft reboot, Evolution, picking up on Paramount+ shortly after the original's end. They both follow the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit as they profile and analyze the worst-of-the-worst criminals, blending the psychology behind behavioral sciences and the action of a police procedural. Criminal Minds has a core group of profilers, with a few coming and going across the seasons, but all notable in their own ways.

‘Devil’s Due’ – Revisiting the ‘Abigail’ Directors’ Found Footage Movie
Image
Expectations can run high whenever a buzzworthy filmmaker makes the leap from indie to mainstream. And Radio Silence — Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Chad Villella and former member Justin Martinez — certainly had a lot to live up to after V/H/S. This production collective’s rousing contribution to the 2012 anthology film not only impressed audiences and critics, the same segment also caught the attention of 20th Century. This led to the studio recruiting the rising talent for a hush-hush found-footage project later titled Devil’s Due.

However, as soon as Radio Silence’s anticipated first film was released into the wild, the reactions were mostly negative. Devil’s Due was dismissed as a Rosemary’s Baby rehash but dressed in different clothes; almost all initial reviews were sure to make — as well as dwell on — that comparison. Of course, significant changes were made to Lindsay Devlin’s pre-existing script; directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett...

There's a Secret 'Ready or Not' Connection in 'Abigail'
Image
This weekend, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collaboratively as Radio Silence, will drop their latest project. Titled Abigail, the movie is a reimagining of Universal’s 1936 feature, Dracula’s Daughter with a few updated twists. One of those twists is something that audiences can always expect to be woven into a Radio Silence-helmed movie - a smattering of comedy to offset the terror. While the duo made their first foray into filmmaking with a chapter in the anthology project, V/H/S, and worked on other titles, including Devil’s Due and Southbound, it was with their 2019 film, Ready or Not that they really picked up steam and let their specific brand of horror-comedy shine.

Abigail Review: This Ballerina Vampire Bloodbath Is A Perfect Horror Movie [Overlook 2024]
Image
Most filmmakers would kill to have a track record like the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence. Breaking in with the anthology horror films "V/H/S" and "Southbound" as well as the found footage flick "Devil's Due," the crew skyrocketed to new heights with the crowd-pleasing horror-comedy favorite "Ready or Not," which more than proved they were capable of taking over the reins for "Scream V" and "Scream VI." Now, collective co-founders Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back in their directors' chairs for an original horror story, unleashing the balls-to-the-wall "Abigail," aka "the ballerina vampire movie." The trailer alone had already firmly placed this on my most anticipated films list of 2024, but my deep love of "Ready or Not" meant my expectations were sky-high. And yet, somehow, those wild Radio Silence boys knocked this out of the park and into the stratosphere, crafting arguably their best film yet.

The Toxic Avenger comic book coming from Ahoy Comics this fall
Image
A red band teaser trailer for writer/director Macon Blair’s remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here) was unveiled back in September – you can watch it at This Link – but we’re still waiting to hear of a release date for that one. In the meantime, Ahoy Comics has announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that they are bringing the Toxic Avenger character back to the world of comic books for a five-issue mini-series they’re planning to get out into the world this fall! The first issue is expected to reach store shelves on October 9th.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Matt Bors, the Pulitzer Prize finalist who founded the daily online political comics publication The Nib, and artist / caricaturist Fred Harper are working on the mini-series, which will be taking its cues from the 1984 version of The Toxic Avenger, not from the upcoming remake…...

A Christmas Carol Taught Star Trek’s Data What It Means To Be Human
Image
Lt. Commander Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation learns a valuable lesson about humanity from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Data seeks feedback from Captain Jean-Luc Picard on his performance as Scrooge, which teaches him about what it means to be human. Patrick Stewart, who played Picard, also portrayed Scrooge and had a personal connection to the story, emphasizing the themes of kindness and compassion.

Charles Dickens' enduring novella A Christmas Carol taught Star Trek: The Next Generation's Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) a valuable lesson about humanity. Tng's beloved android finally became human in Star Trek: Picard season 3, but Data was always one of the most human of souls aboard the USS Enterprise-d. Star Trek May Not Have Christmas, But It Has More Holiday Spirit Than You Think
Image
Since its first entry “The Man Trap” aired on Sept. 8 1966, Star Trek has released almost 900 episodes and 13 feature films. And yet, none of those TV episodes or movie releases have delved into that most popular of genres, the Christmas story.

Anyone who knows about the production of The Original Series can understand the reason for that omission. Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry placed religion alongside racism and capitalism as divisive tendencies from which humanity evolves. So of course a holiday based on Christianity and/or shopping would fade away as humans looked toward the stars.

But as is often the case, the actual execution of Star Trek differs wildly from Roddenberry’s intentions. Even though the franchise never openly embraces Christmas, some aspects of the holiday do catch up with it, no matter how far it boldly goes.

Does Starfleet Know It’s Christmas Time at All?

The first mention...

15 Best Star Trek Episodes & Movies To Watch During The Holidays
Image
Christmas and holidays aren't a big focus in Star Trek, but there are episodes and movies that can be enjoyed during the holiday season. Star Trek has its fair share of ghost stories, which can be a reflection on the past year and those we have lost. Star Trek movies offer enjoyable family viewing during the holiday season, with blockbuster action and colorful celebrations of life.

Christmas and the holidays aren't widely celebrated in the Star Trek universe, but that doesn't mean that there aren't some perfect episodes and movies to enjoy over the holiday season. References to Christmas are few and far between in Star Trek; Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) reflects on a Christmas party aboard the USS Enterprise in the Tos episode "Dagger of the Mind", and Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) rehearses the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Devil's Due.

The Next Generation Was Assembled From Star Trek: Phase II Leftovers
Image
Despite being the definitive version of Star Trek for a generation, Star Trek: The Next Generation was never supposed to work. Conventional wisdom suggested that no reboot ever compared to the original TV series -- either in quality or ratings. However, Gene Roddenberry had been through it all with Paramount before. In fact, The Next Generation was largely assembled from leftover pieces of a cancelled show called Star Trek: Phase II.

In fairness, Star Trek: Phase II was canceled in favor of the superlative Star Trek: The Motion Picture. However, The Next Generation represented a new, unique business opportunity, as documented by the Los Angeles Times. Yet the chaotic production of the first two seasons meant the writers and producers had to dig into the past in order to shape the future. From characters to concepts, Star Trek: Phase II lived on in the early adventures of the USS Enterprise-d.

Breaking Bad Star Joins Scream 6 Directors' Universal Monster Movie
Image
A Breaking Bad star has reportedly joined the cast of Scream 6 filmmakers Radio Silence's upcoming Universal Monsters movie. The production company Radio Silence made their name with cult horror films like V/H/S and Devil’s Due before taking a step up with 2019’s Ready or Not. That movie was enough of a hit to score Radio Silence their biggest project ever in 2022’s Scream franchise revival, which was followed with 2023’s hit Scream 6. Fresh off their successful resurrection of Scream, the Radio Silence gang will next tackle a different classic horror franchise, as they’re currently developing a Universal monster movie.

Details are hard to come by as regards Radio Silence's planned entry in the Universal Monsters franchise, but it’s being reported by Deadline that Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito has been added to the cast in an undisclosed role. Esposito joins previously revealed cast members Melissa Barrera,...

The film collective known as Radio Silence has more than proved they know their way around a recognizable IP, having taken the reins on the "Scream" franchise following the passing of horror maestro Wes Craven. These 25 Horror Movies Are Leaving HBO Max in April 2023
Image
There are so many different streaming services in play that it’s impossible to keep track of them all, but we find it’s good to at least be aware of what’s *leaving* the ones you’re subscribing to. This way you can make sure to knock things off your list before they’re gone.

On that note, a couple hundred movies will be leaving HBO Max in April 2023, including several that horror fans may want to watch before they can no longer be found on there.

That list of horror movies leaving HBO Max next month includes James Wan’s Malignant, as well as last year’s holiday horror movie Adult Swim Yule Log (don’t miss that one!).

Here’s all the horror leaving HBO Max in April 2023…

April 11

Adult Swim Yule Log (aka The Fireplace)

April 27

Malignant, 2021 (HBO)

April 30

Blade, 1998 Blow Out, 1981 (HBO) Deep Blue Sea,...

The Scariest Thing About Directing a ‘Scream’ Film? ‘Not F**king Up’ Wes Craven’s Horror Legacy
Image
It just keeps on killing. After 27 years, six films, one television series, and more than $740 million in box office returns, the “Scream” franchise shows no sign of slowing down. After being relaunched with sequel “Scream” in 2022, the tongue-in-cheek slasher series bows it next entry, the already-well-reviewed “Scream VI,” in theaters this week.

But, like any franchise film, “Scream VI” is at the mercy of big (even bloody) expectations. And directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, along with producer Chad Villella (Aka Radio Silence) aren’t shying away from them. When Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett signed on to direct “Scream” in 2020, they were taking on a truly chilling gig: becoming the only filmmakers besides horror maestro Wes Craven to direct a “Scream” picture.

“I think we really felt the responsibility of what that meant to be stepping into Wes’ shoes, to be following up that legacy, and we didn’t want to fuck it up,...

How Jordan Peele's Brand Of Horror Bled Into 2022's Scream
Image
Every time the "Scream" movies have resurfaced after an extensive break, like a Ghostface mask-wearing killer in Woodsboro, they have found themselves in a vastly changed horror landscape. When "Scream 4" bowed in 2011 (11 years after "Scream 3"), it was arriving on the heels of a decade of horror franchise reboots, slasher/splatter films (aka "torture porn"), and J-horror remakes. When 2022's "Scream" opened, the horror genre had enjoyed a major upswing in popularity thanks to the Conjuring Universe, Blumhouse, and A24, home of so-called "elevated horror."

Thanks to their post-modern outlook, the "Scream" films are specially equipped to adapt to the times. Just as Wes Craven's "Scream" made its characters aware of the slasher tropes the director helped popularize in 1996, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's 2022 "Scream" is full of scenes where people talk about legacy sequels and other horror trends from the 2010s. It's also got a good...

Ready Or Not's Production Went Through A Stunning Number Of Wedding Dresses
Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Marley Shelton, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Sonia Ammar, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mikey Madison in Scream (2022)
If you dug the elaborate kills and intricate set design on the latest "Scream" requel, you simply must check out "Ready or Not," the previous theatrical feature from the filmmaking troupe known as Radio Silence. Comprised of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, the collective has largely been behind the camera of anthologies (including the first installment of "V/H/S" and its recent reboot "V/H/S/94"), though they also conjured up "Devil's Due," an overt homage to "Rosemary's Baby" that had Eli Roth solidly in the bag.

With "Ready or Not," the trio really flexed their filmic savvy in every conceivable way, boasting...

Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Marley Shelton, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Sonia Ammar, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mikey Madison in Scream (2022)
Haters of PG-13 horror can let out a big sigh of relief as the fifth film installation of the "Scream" franchise has officially been given the R-rating from the MPAA, ensuring the entire franchise requires adult supervision or skilled theater hopping skills for viewers under the age of 17. The upcoming 2022 release earned its R-rating for "strong bloody violence, language throughout, and some sexual references," which uh, sure sounds like what to expect from a slasher movie. The new film comes from the Radio Silence collective's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of "V/H/S," "Southbound," "Devil's Due," and "Ready or Not" fame, all horror flicks...

6 Times TV Shows Replaced Their Characters and Acted Like It Was No Big Deal
Game of Thrones (2011)
It's easy to forget that actors are in fact acting when they do a great job portraying a certain character, but there's no better reality check than a good recasting. Time and time again, viewers at home have been reminded that TV shows are mere acts of fiction. In Game of Thrones, fans were transported back to the 21st century when they spotted a Starbucks coffee cup, a relic of the modern ages, in a scene of the HBO series. It happened once again in the finale, when people saw not one but two water bottles underneath Samwell Tarly's chair. But one of the bigger goofs that fans are able to spot is a scheduling conflict. Most recently, it happened when The Baby-Sitters...

The Baby-Sitters Club Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Kristy and the Snobs
The Baby (2014)
The Baby-Sitters Club is officially back in business.

A lot has changed since we last saw them at Camp Mohawk last season

The Baby-Sitters Club Season 2 Episode 1 caught us up to date and introduced us to Season 2's new way of storytelling. While Season 1 of The Baby-Sitters Club followed the books more closely, Season 2 follows them loosely often picking a theme and focusing on that.

These Season 2 episodes still features the heart of the series, but if you're a diehard fan of the books, you will notice differences. Let's discuss the changes Kristy and her friends have dealt with.

In "Kristy and the Snobs," the episode stayed fairly close to the book. Kristy struggled with belonging in her new family and rich neighborhood. David Michael still loses his beloved dog, Louie. As a dog lover, that storyline makes me cry.

Many kids struggle with a parent getting remarried, especially if they have to move.

Film Review: Fetus (2020) by Ook Budiyono
Image
While hardly a new topic within the genre, the horror of pregnancy has been tackled from major Hollywood productions “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Seventh Sign” to indie fare like “Devil’s Due” and “Prevenge.” Even efforts from around the world, like the French “Inside” or Australian “The Clinic” have tackled the issue, which opens the door for Indonesia to go head-long into the subject matter with first-timer Ook Budiyono’s new feature “Fetus.”

In the early stages of pregnancy, young mother Dinar (Jill Gladys) and her husband Randu (Reuben Elishama Hadju) are ecstatic to learn all’s going well and to carry on with their lives as the day approaches. As she begins to get stressed out, thinking something’s wrong with her, he decides to hire live-in nurse Susan (Rhesa Putri) to help care for her only for the attacks to continue and intensify. At his wits’ end, he comes...

‘Scream’ Reboot in the Works With ‘Ready or Not’ Directors
Drew Barrymore in Scream (1996)
Spyglass Media Group is developing a reboot of the horror franchise “Scream” and has attached “Ready or Not” directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Variety has learned.

The original “Scream” debuted in 1996 with Neve Campbell starring as Sidney Prescott, the target of the Ghostface killer, with a look inspired by the Edvard Munch painting “The Scream.” Courteney Cox and David Arquette co-starred in the four-film franchise, directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. Bob Weinstein’s Dimension Films released all four films, which combined for $608 million in worldwide box office with sequels released in 1997, 2000 and 2011.

Spyglass had no comment on the reboot news.

Spyglass Media was formed a year ago with former MGM topper Gary Barber and Lantern Entertainment co-presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic. Lantern owns the rights to “Scream” as a result of taking over the film assets from the Weinstein Co. in 2018.

'The Grudge' Looks to Scare Up Some Coin to Kick Off the New Year
The Grudge (2019)
It's the beginning of a the new year so you know what that means, plenty of holiday holdovers and a new horror film. This year's horror hopeful is Sony's remake of a remake in The Grudge, but it has plenty of competition as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is looking at yet another weekend in the top spot not to mention films further down the line including Lionsgate's spectacular holdover Knives Out, which led all wide release holdovers last weekend in terms of holds, improving +52% compared to the week prior, and it's adding theaters this weekend.

At the top, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will easily remain the weekend's #1 film for a third weekend in a row, even if it dips another -60% compared to last weekend. We don't imagine that happening and are currently expecting a dip around -52% for a $34.7 million three-day, pushing the...
