Quick Links Why Did The Office Change the Actress Who Plays Pam's Mom? Michael Scott Dated Pam's Mom For a Bit & It Was Horrible Pam's mom was an important character in The Office. She had a great relationship with her daughter and also dated Michael Scott for a bit. Helene Beesly was played by two different actresses: Shannon Cochran and Linda Purl. Helene appeared briefly at the beginning of the second season and didn't come back until the sixth season to attend her daughter's wedding, which is when she officially meets Michael.
Pam's mom, Helene Beesly, is a small character in The Office, but she was a part of many people's favorite storylines. Many viewers might not have even noticed, however, that Helene was played by two different actresses, since Shannon Cochran's portrayal was so short-lived. Cochran and Linda Purl both portrayed the character. Cochran played Helene in The Office Season 2, Episode 2, "Sexual Harassment.

It’s a “Hot Glen Summer” at the movies.
Just like the immortal words of Megan Thee Stallion, who’s billed every summer since 2019 the perfect time to do “hot girl shit,” Glen Powell is heating up movie screens. Summer 2024 firmly establishes him as a power player with Netflix’s “Hit Man,” the Prime Video documentary “The Blue Angels” and Universal “Twisters” dropping in rapid succession.
In the words of Retta — who first met Powell on the 2014 indie rom-com “Sex Ed” before they reunited for “Hit Man” — “Homie is a straight up movie star.”
“This is the summer of Glen,” director Richard Linklater concurs. “They’re all ‘Johnny come lately’ to the Glen Powell thing. Anybody who’s known Glen for the last 10-plus years knows that he’s a star. He’s smart. He’s funny. He’s hard working.”
Like Retta, Linklater has had a front row seat to the actor’s glow-up,...

Some film festivals take themselves entirely too seriously. Not South by Southwest, the Austin-based multidisciplinary mega-event where amped-up crowds welcome comedies with open arms — the raunchier the better. This year, one logline stood out as especially promising: “A 30-year-old Indian American virgin gets a job teaching high school Sex Ed.” Alas, “Doin’ It” doesn’t cut it (it’s basically 2014 Haley Joel Osment comedy “Sex Ed” with a cultural spin). The concept is funny, but the execution feels forced, in part because the substitute in question (played by Lilly Singh) is supposed to be following an abstinence-based curriculum. In theory, her deep-seated celibacy should make her perfect for the job.
The movie aims to combat the shame around all aspects of human sexuality, which seems like an admirable but inevitably controversial goal. But “Doin’ It” goes too far straight out of the gate, opening with an embarrassment no teenager can...

If you thought the premiere of Sex Education‘s final season felt more like a spinoff or a backdoor pilot, you’re not alone! When the Netflix dramedy returns for its fourth go-around (all eight episodes are now available to stream), things have changed quite a great deal in Moordale. Maeve is in America, Otis and Eric are starting at a new college that feels more like a hippie cult or summer camp for horny teens, and Jean’s busy dealing with her new bundle of joy, Joy.

Anyone But You footage screened at CinemaCon contains a lot of nudity involving the two lead stars. Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell are joining forces for an R-rated rom-com, which is officially titled Anyone But You. Last month, the movie was the subject of much buzz online with set photos showing Powell and Sweeney sizzling in swimsuits and a set video showing the Top Gun: Maverick star jumping out of a moving helicopter.
Now, Sweeney and Powell have officially wrapped shooting Anyone But You in Australia and the first footage was screened at CinemaCon, which Screen Rant was in attendance for.

When Aimee Lou Wood would tell people that she was starring in “Living,” a re-imagining of Akira Kurosawa’s classic story of a terminally ill bureaucrat’s quest for meaning, the response she received terrified her.
“Everyone I spoke would tell me it was their favorite film of all time or the most beautiful film of all time,” she says. “It was a lot of pressure.”
But after watching the original, she became convinced that “Living,” which moves the setting from Japan to 1950s Great Britain, had used the elements of Kurosawa’s story that made it so powerful, but provided a fresh perspective that’s uniquely its own. It also helped that the film gave Wood, best known for her work as the popular and big-hearted teenager Aimee Gibbs on Netflix’s “Sex Education,” a chance to work alongside one of her acting icons, Bill Nighy. The two play Mr.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Sex Education” Season 3, streaming now on Netflix.
In “Sex Education” Season 3, Chinenye Ezeudu does it like an animal.
Ezeudu first appeared in the show last season as Viv Odusanya, the overbearingly smart quiz team student who tutors (and lightly flirts with) cool-guy Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling). She starts off as an archetype of a nerdy, career-focused schoolgirl, then becomes more three-dimensional as the show exposes her friendships and her heart.
Season 3 continued that work. Viv begins the season obsessed to the point of obnoxiousness with their school’s new head teacher, girlboss-type Hope Haddon (Jemima Kirke). She ends up hurting Jackson in the process of following in Hope’s footsteps, taking over his position as head student and disregarding his fight for freedom of expression on campus. She also finally joins other “Sex Education” characters in having her sexuality...

The day The New York Times broke the Harvey Weinstein story, I found myself choking back bile all day.
In the weeks since, it has become resoundingly clear that Weinstein is a virulent serial predator, and has earned whatever hell rains down on him. But Harvey Weinstein isn’t the problem, and bringing him down — while satisfying, necessary, and just — will be far from sufficient if we don’t simultaneously tear down our rotten corporate culture and reckon with our own complicity in propping it up.
As democracy derives its consent from the governed, tyranny derives its consent from the tyrannized. And while it’s long overdue, I no longer consent to being tyrannized.
I wasn’t sexually harassed by Harvey Weinstein. I worked with him briefly, consulting on “sex, lies, and videotape,” the film that changed the independent film business, Sundance, and Harvey forever; the film whose prescient title...

There is a reason why The Fosters is one of the best family dramas on television.
The Fosters Season 4 Episode 15 is a prime example of what the show looks like when it’s at it’s best. Bold, relevant, and fearlessly tackling real life, occasionally controversial, issues with grace, tact, and without being too preachy.
When the show is at the top of its game, it gives us thought-provoking television, representative of the diverse world that we live in. It makes us invested in the family, so much so, that we feel like we're a part of it ourselves.
And the best part is, regardless of our differences, it's plausible that we could be part of this family.
Sex-Ed was probably one of the most balanced installments of the season. It slowed down on the overly dramatic angst fest on steroids, that has been prevalent, and gave us simple family...

The Student, which is translated on screen as “The Disciple” (an interpretation far more fitting, although the Russian word used is also close to “Martyr”) is, if nothing else, an intensely frustrating film. Directed with the subtlety of a shotgun by Kirill Serebrennikov and shot with a formally energetic approach full of vim and vigor by Vladislav Opelyants, it is a film which actually has the force and rigor to take on the thorny subject of religious fundamentalism. But even if it is visually up to the task, The Student is hobbled by its script and hog tied by its characters.
A screed against religion, or to be more precise, the fundamental devotion to a religious text, in this case The Bible, The Student is a film with the potential for great satire and importance, grounded in the decision to show a conviction towards the text not often seen on...

I had no idea that AMC was developing a show called Feed the Beast with David Schwimmer and Jim Sturgess in the leads, but not only do we have a few images to share with you, but there's already a first look trailer available to watch (via Uproxx). It's a very quick look at the series, and it won't actually give you much information about the story, but luckily I have the full synopsis below:
“Feed the Beast” tells the story of Tommy (Schwimmer) and Dion (Sturgess) who are like brothers. With all the love – and all the complications – that comes with it. Dion can’t stay out of trouble. Tommy can’t move past it. For two friends on the brink of losing everything, a dusty pipe dream of opening up an upscale restaurant in their hometown of the Bronx is all they have left to turn their lives around.

School’s out for summer, and the monthly changeover at Netflix is about to ensure that you’ll have plenty of different content to watch next month. A number of films will become available to stream in June, including the magnificent Nightcrawler, Martin Scorsese’s somewhat underrated The Aviator, Jon Stewart’s directorial debut Rosewater, and one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final films, A Most Wanted Man. Additionally, last year’s critically hailed but way underseen Beyond the Lights will be available to stream, as will Transformers: Age of Extinction if you enjoy having your senses assaulted. On the TV side, Season 2 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Scandal Season 4 will become available, as will the third season of the Netflix Original Series Orange Is the New Black and the first season of Sense8, from creators Lana and Andy Wachowski. How is it possible that NeNe knows what “tea-bagging” means but gets the vapors trying to conceptualize an orgy? Tea-bagging is not Sex Ed 101, but you can see orgies on MTV almost every single day. From the highest mountain to the deepest valley, I call bullshit on you, NeNe Leakes!NeNe really has nothing else to do this week because she’s not really on the show yet. Do you think it’s an accident that she isn’t filming with the cast for the first two episodes? It’s just NeNe and Gregg in Las Vegas, sweating through their Depends and pretending that a tidal wave swallowed Atlanta. She’s nervous about her hosting gig, and she should be, because Zumanity artistic director Ria is watching her like a damn hawk. While everyone else is trying to coddle NeNe about how great she is, Ria walks in, lowers her glasses,...

Adult virgins are held in pretty much the same regard as post-transformation Gregor Samsa. In real life, they're fairly rare, though not complete unicorns, and are often considered peculiar by the sexually active majority. So virginity makes for a pretty good existential device for storytellers to isolate a character from the rest of humanity without actually turning him or her into a bug. In Sex Ed, directed by Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker Isaac Feder, Haley Joel Osment's virginal Ed Cole is a science teacher who can't find a job during the recession. Hired by a Tampa district as a new "after-school activities coordinator," he quickly determines that means he's a junior-high detention monitor. He realizes that the preadolescent kids know nothing about sex, an...

Welcome back to Hollywood, Haley Joel Osment. The 26-year-old actor—who, at the age of 11, was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in The Sixth Sense—is returning to the spotlight after taking a lengthy break from Tinseltown to attend the Experimental Theatre Workshop program at Nyu Tisch, where he successfully honed his craft away from the spotlight. So when Osment stopped by E! News on Friday—be sure to check out his interview at 7 and 11 p.m. tonight—we had to ask the former child star to dish on his plethora of forthcoming projects, including his upcoming film Sex Ed as well as the Kevin Smith-directed comedy Yoga Hosers and his appearance in the Entourage...

It can't be ignored that "Mulaney" premiered last Sunday night on Fox and the ratings weren't especially good. I got on the phone with creator-star John Mulaney on Thursday and made a promise up-front: I'd lead with quick ratings discussion and then never return to the topic and we stuck to it. The bottom line on that subject: Fox is 100 percent behind "Mulaney" and the network knows things will turn around. And what else would anyone say after one week? Mostly, we discussed the learning process on "Mulaney," which was originally developed at NBC, moved over to Fox and which is already far deeper into production than most freshman shows. This week, in fact, found "Mulaney" working on its 13th episode, while Mulaney was also, at least according to Twitter, parlaying with old chum Bill Hader in advance of Hader's "SNL" hosting stint, so it's impressive both that he found time to chat all,...

Ever wonder what happened to Haley Joel Osment? If so, you might well welcome the trailer for the new sex-comedy Sex Ed, which has the former child star playing a hapless sex-ed teacher who lives the cliché, "those who can't do, teach." See, Ed (Osment's character) is a virgin. And hilarity ensues! In the late 1990s/early 2000s, Haley Joel Osment was an adorable child actor who won the world's notice with his gripping role opposite Bruce Willis in M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense. Playing the haunted young Cole Sear earned the 12-year-old an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The following year he co-starred with two Academy Award-winners (Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt) in the earnest drama Pay It Forward. Then in 2001, Steven Spielberg called on this kid to shoulder his translation of the long-dead A.I. - Artificial Intelligence, conceived by the late Stanley Kubrick. Haley...

Witness the continuing reinvention of former child star Haley Joel Osment as he jumps from the horrors of Tusk to the decidedly much different coming-of-age-comedy Sex Ed, which has just released its first trailer.
From director Isaac Feder and Black Listed writer Bill Kennedy, this special sneak preview of Sex Ed also arrives in celebration of October's Planned Parenthood 'Let's Talk' Month, with the movie serving as a good starting point for high schoolers.
A bawdy comedy in the vein of American Pie, Sex Ed also has a heart and a social conscience as it takes a humorous look at our often clueless approach to teaching kids about sex.

Haley Joel Osment’s biggest role to date as the ghost whisperer Cole Sear in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense will likely precede him his entire professional life. His performance was undoubtedly mindblowing for such a young actor. But to shake the shackles of the cute kid persona, he’s making leaps towards establishing a long-term career. Most recently he took a supporting role in Kevin Smith’s horror-comedy, Tusk, and next month he’ll be heading up his own comedy in Sex Ed.
The story revolves around the life of Osment’s teacher, Ed Cole. After he bags his first job at a middle school, it soon dawns on him that the youngsters he’s assigned to teach have no idea about sexual education. Despite suffering a bit of dry spell in the shag department, Cole takes on the responsibility and sets about schooling his tribe on the human body,...

"Sex Ed," the first feature film directed by Isaac Feder will be making its world premiere as one of the opening night features for the 2014 Portland Film Festival.
Haley Joel Osment stars in the film as Eddie, stuck in the post-collegiate doldrums; shitty job, shitty apartment, no girlfriend. He takes a job supervising an after school detention program, where he quickly discovers that the kids are getting no form of sexual education. If he doesn’t teach it, they’re going to learn about sex from the internet. And the internet is a dark place.
Eddie isn’t equipped to teach sex ed – he’s a virgin. But he fakes it, and soon the kids start to love and look forward to his class. He even scores a date with the older sister of one of his students. But everything falls apart when his new girlfriend finds out that Eddie gave her little brother condoms, and the head of the local PTA threatens to cancel his class.
According to Osment, this film has found the perfect home in Portland. “This is huge for us. We looked at some other festivals where we would have been a minor event and here they're giving us the focus of opening night.” Both Osment and Feder will be among other cast and crew on the red carpet for the premiere and opening night celebration at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom on August 26, beginning at 5:30pm.
The 2014 Portland Film Festival is a week-long event taking place August 26-September 1, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. There will be daily film screenings in 7 theaters throughout the city, networking events and classes all week, as well as 3 days of outdoor screenings and events. Matt Walsh, who plays the sweaty, mustachioed Mike McLintock on Veep, has joined the Wild Oats cast, which includes Demi Moore, Shirley MacLaine, and Jessica Lange. Andy Tennant (Hitch, Fools Rush In) is directing the comedy about a woman (MacLaine) who gets a surprise windfall because of a computer glitch, and decides to run and take the money rather than fess up. Walsh will be playing a grifter named Forbes. With three films coming out (the tornado chase flick Into the Storm, the rom-com Sex Ed, and his second film as a director, A Better You) and another in production (6 Miranda Drive, a horror movie with Kevin Bacon), Walsh is a busy man.

Three years ago, we reported that Haley Joel Osment was taking on his first big-screen role as an adult in Sex Ed, a film that would find him teaching middle schoolers about sex, despite being a virgin himself. (Apparently, "I see dead people" isn't a great pick-up line) Unfortunately for Osment, the movie has had a strict abstinence-only policy since, as the actor waited and waited to finally consummate his relationship with the camera. But now it appears he's finally a step closer to opening night, as the movie has added Lamorne Morris (New Girl), Retta (Parks and ...
