I highly recommend this cartoon.

I only took up this cartoon recently, but now that I've seen it, I honestly think Star vs. the Forces of Evil is the most underrated cartoon Disney has ever released. It has an amazing cast of characters, a great balance between lighthearted and serious moments, and the longer the plot goes on, the better it gets. Since the show changed drastically over its lifespan, I feel it appropriate to review each season.

Season 1: 8/10-When I watched the first season, I was in love almost immediately. Technically, the plot isn't that present in this season, being more episodic than having episodes build on each other, but I was so enthralled by the lovable characters the show had to offer that I didn't even care. Even then, the plot they did have-both in isolated episodes and overall-was really good. If you're looking for a fun time, this season will provide it.

Season 2: 9/10-This is when the show starts transitioning towards plot focus. For the most part, it retains its episodic format, but the connections between episodes become stronger as it goes on. It also sets the stage for many of the events in the upcoming seasons, so this season is essential to anyone who wants to tackle the whole series.

Season 3: 9.5/10-This may be a controversial decision, but to me, this was the greatest season of the show. It was here that the plot was at its most powerful. Granted, there was a bit of a lull after the Battle of Mewni, but once the plot picks up momentum, it becomes one of the most captivating parts of this show. I'll admit that I didn't like a few of the things the characters did, but those can easily be accepted as mistakes. And even with those mistakes, I still enjoyed each and every one of them. Personally, I love this season, and I recommend it even more than I recommend the other seasons.

Season 4: 7.5/10-I'd be lying if I didn't say this was the weakest season. It wasn't necessarily bad: they just didn't do as much with it as they could have, and I wasn't a big fan of its finale. But what they did give us in this season was sill mostly well done-maybe a bit slow paced at times, but the payoff is generally worth it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show. Was it perfect? No. Is it still worth watching? Absolutely.

A Disney Channel star

Saw 'Star vs The Forces of Evil' as a fan of Disney, which has been the case since childhood. It has been hit and miss for years, with the Disney Channel being nowhere near as good as it was (going from one of my most watched channels to only watching a small handful of shows and their films since my late teens when they started airing their sitcoms more). Saw it too as someone who really liked the concept and who has been really surprised by the quality of Disney's recent animated shows.

While preferring 'Amphibia' and especially 'Gravity Falls', 'Star vs The Forces of Evil' to me was very good and at its best made for one of Disney's best shows in a while. Can totally understand why there has been so much praise for it, while not going as far to call it one of Disney's all time best. Can also totally understand the polarisation, as it is an uneven show with a couple of major debits. It does succeed a lot more than it doesn't and the best of the many good things are outstanding.

Beginning with the faults, it is a little bit of a slow starter with it taking time for any plotting to get very far, the shorter episodes also feeling too much like filler, and some of the humour is childish and tries too hard to be weird. Very similar issues had with 'The Owl House' when it first started, though the character writing is much better and more consistent here than that show.

Also felt that while appreciating the darker and more mature tone of the later episodes and finding there to be a lot of emotion, it did feel on the rushed side towards the end and the final episode feels rushed and anti-climactic.

However, a lot is great. Really like the animation, which is very vibrant in colour (the colours literally popping out without being too dizzying), quirky in character design (Toffee's very creative character design being a standout) and rich in background detail. The character designs are also creative. The music is always dynamic with the action and full of energy and atmosphere. The theme tune is very catchy. The voice acting is excellent all round, particularly from Eden Sher, Adam McArthur and Alan Tudyk. Michael C Hall is effectively sinister too as Toffee.

The writing often is very funny and smart and mixes humour and poignant emotion very well from late Season 1 onwards. Season 2 being the best and most consistent one. Actually appreciated the darker and more mature tone of the later episodes with the themes as well as more threatening villains, as well as the much tighter pacing, and admired its addressing of relevant and challenging themes such as prejudice, personally didn't find that preachy or out of place and prejudice is something that should be talked about to children early seeing how much this has increased. The more complex plotlines from Season 2 onwards didn't come over as too complex and were intelligently and intriguingly done. The often wonderfully wild and visually creative action excites.

Loved the characters too, and these were characters that were interesting and appealed in personality (even with the flaws) almost immediately and showed significant growth the more complex the character arcs became. The Eclipsa and Ludo arcs stood out. Ludo, Tom and Toffee were particularly well written and Star was a flawed (though not overly so) but likeable and rootable character. Really liked her interactions with Marco.

Concluding, very, very good. 8/10.

A Good Show in a Sea of Trash

I turned this show on simply to see what it was about. I expected nothing more than a half-decent animated series with naive jokes and a plot line taken straight from another story book tale. However, I found that this show held tons of hilarious jokes and scenarios (sometimes even innuendos) within a creative plot. I was surprised that, while maintaining most aspects of a PG show, it was extremely entertaining and kept my attention well (which is saying a lot if you knew me). Best animated TV show since Gravity Falls. Highly recommend...

Pros: Great animation, Creative story line, Hilarious scenarios. Cons: A bit too naive to entertain older crowds.

This show definitely deserves a chance. Watch the first episode and, if you're anything like me, you'll be hooked.

One of the best animated shows airing right now

It's difficult to explain, this show is simply amazing and entertaining to watch! The main characters are all charming and lovable, the plot is enticing, and the humor is surprisingly fun for adults as well as kids. There has been a trend of brilliant kids cartoons like Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and Adventure Time reversing the otherwise downward trend kids TV programs face. There seems to be a great disparity between kids shows these days, in that they're all either mindless cash grabs by network producers, or they're completely brilliant and absolutely amazing for kids and adults alike. Star Vs the Forces of Evil certainly falls into the ladder. It actually took long exposure to heavy praise of the show to get me to finally buckle down and watch it. Half way into season 1, I was hooked. Though the traits that make it a kids program are often glaring, the characters are so well-written that it becomes difficult not to love them. Once the plot falls into motion, it's impossible to stop watching. Having watched up to the most recent episode as of posting this, it's impossible for me to give this show any less than a 10. All i can say more is, if you start to watch this show, you'll fall in love, no matter what age you are.

Don't judge a book by its cover!

At a first glance, this show may look like an annoying little kids show, but don't be fooled. This is by far one of the best shows Disney has made, and I hope to see more of it in the future. I love how every character has depth and multiple sides to them you didn't know they had. Even Star has a rebel warrior side to her, and you may feel bad for the antagonists as well. The plot may seem dull and simple at first, but then it blossoms into a world of lore and mystery. Even in its simpler times, the show is still very entertaining. Some episodes will be filled with fun, adventure, and monster butt kicking, while other episodes will be filled with emotion, lore, and a glimpse at the lives of other characters. Plus, this show is very funny, greatly animated, and just plain fun to watch. Some elements of the show remind me of other shows, books, video games, and comics I enjoy. This is a must watch series especially if you like shows such as Gravity Falls or Adventure Time. This title gets a big thumbs up from CriticalBunniez👍

A mixed bag of a show

Pros: Some great characters (Star, Marco, Eclipsa, Moon, Marco's karate teacher, etc.)

Some great moments and episodes

Pretty good animation (for the most part)

Some strong story and character elements

Cons: Some of the plot-choices are awkward and don't make sense

Plenty of filler episodes

Most of the humor and jokers aren't very funny

FRICKIN PONY HEAD

Conclusion: Not a bad show. Has lots of flaws, but the great characters, mostly very-good second season, and animation kept me watching till the end. Wouldn't really recommend it due to its numerous flaws and poor episodes.

It's Gonna Get a little Weird, it's Gonna get a little Wild!

After watching the first two episodes of Star vs The Forces of Evil, I can easily say I want more. I really like this show, and it is just what Disney Channel needs to help boost its animated Lineup. A mix of Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and JUST A PINCH of Ren and Stimpy in there too, Star vs The Forces of Evil delivers beautiful animation, good characters, and a pretty straightforward plot that's easy to follow. Along with some really great jokes, and good humor all around, it is an insanely fun show to experience, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to add another fun Animated Show to their lists.

Also the theme song is definitely one of the Catchiest in awhile aside from Steven Universe's. I've been humming it for the past few days, not sure when I'll stop But in any case, I will continue to watch Star battle the Forces of Evil, and hopefully it continues to have a strong showing like it did in Episodes one and two. I know I will be along for the dimensional ride to see!

Not incredible, but not terrible

The show is very fun and very Disney Channel. It's about a slightly bratty princess who has to live on earth in order to not ruin her own kingdom. Well, here we go folks. After season two, it kind of falls apart. The show a has very good world building, and TOFFEE!!!! AHHH. He is a very well written villain, but the ending and many other characters, as well as the humor, and even the story itself falls downhill after the climax of season two. Would recommend, but know this isn't gonn be the next Avatar the Last Airbender.

Bad first half of season 1, but fantastic after that

The first couple episodes are mediocre as the writers tried to go a bit too over the top with zaniness and thrill, but by the 3rd of 4th episode the show levels itself (still zany but toned down) and becomes a very enjoyable show to watch that is fun for both kids, teens and adults. It looks a bit childish and at times it is, but it is definitely worth a watch if your looking for show to watch and unwind after a long stressful day

One of the Best Cartoons of the 2010 Decade to Date

This is a TERRIFIC show! You quickly get an idea of what the characters are like after watching only a few episodes, which is great! Daron Nefcy did a GREAT job creating the show, conceiving it, and more! The story for some episodes are a little bland, but the big episodes are far from being bland!

All the characters are likable except for 2 which aren't on the show very much at all. Even THEN, they're not too unlikable. Plus, some people seem to like them.

Season 1 started revealing some incredible things about Star's home world, and Season 2 is filled with even MORE amazing and incredible, HUGE secrets! Season 2 is where everything gets big!

It's not just the writing, animation, concept, and characters that are great. The music is terrific as well, not to mention perfect music is placed at the PERFECT times during the show! You really feel like you have an idea of what the characters are going through and feel like you can really relate to them due to the writing, the music, and the acting together! It's not quite as good as Steven Universe, but I'd definitely suggest checking it out!

It can grow upon you...

I don't know what other people thinking but I LOVE this show. It's pretty amazing and very creative, makes you smile and enjoy when you watch. Yet, it has to improve to get better.

First of all, the plot feels like it does not exist in first few episodes. However, when you keep watching you slowly understand where the show is going. Just like I said in title, It grows on you. You either love or hate this show.

In my opinion, this show is Gravity Falls's and Steven Universe's baby. If you like these shows, you will definitely love this show. And, if you are an adult and still have a child's spirit, not another one of fabricated humans, you will love this show. Because this show makes me think of 5 year old me, who does not aware of how vast and cruel this world is and waves a wand around, say meaningless spells which she heard from her father's old Latin-English glossary. It makes me forget the whole world for a while and let me be this little kid again.

Therefore, if you have a child's spirit, you won't regret.

P.S.: Oh, and if you are a fangirl, you should go and watch without a second thought. This show is made for you, for us. I can guarantee you will love!

Love this show

It's really, really fun and good-natured. Animation is brightly colored and fluid. The different worlds Star visited are pretty creative.

CREATIVITY is the key point in this show. The writer's throw every weird and fun idea into the bowl. While being wacky, they do a surprising job of teaching lessons and keeping characters real and grounded in their motivations.

I recommend this film for anyone. Yeah, its a children's show, but anyone can like it. With so many shows out that can be dark, nihilistic, or at least jaded, its nice to see something that brings joy. If you liked Gravity Falls and wanted something to fill the hole in your soul, watch this.

Hands down my personal favorite

I'm going to say this clearly: I LOVE THIS SHOW. At first it was a fun show where I could just tune in and get some quick entertainment out of, but as we approached the Season 1 finale, I found myself getting more and more invested in it. Sure, the series isn't perfect, but it more than pays off with its characters and the heart put into it. You can tell the creators really had fun making this series. Although there are some story elements that could have been better, the show more than makes up for it with extremely likable characters and a fun premise to follow along. I would recommend people check it out because the entertainment value is high with this one. On the surface, it's a fun little story about the adventures of two teenagers (who have great chemistry together by the way), but as we "dip down" (wink wink), we see that the show is slowly building toward something bigger and grander. Some people may find this buildup a little slow, but I'd say that the best way to watch this show is to just tag along and don't worry too much about the deeper elements. (I really wished this was a show I had growing up, but thankfully I still retain some of my youthful innocence while also understanding some of the more mature topics.) I can't wait to see what the show has in store for us.

Great show but...

Great show in the beginning half, then the last season rolled around it was one of the worst thing's I've ever seen. The horrible season doesn't outweigh the good parts in the show in the earlier seasons. But the last season just weighed everything down.

It may be the next big animated show, like Gravity Falls

I was like "Nah, i'm not feeling like watching this!" like many others i can imagine, but i watched one episode and that's all i needed to get addicted to this show. I watch it pretty much everyday. The first and best thing you hear is the intro. It's catchy and has good visuals, ya know what i mean. The animation is constantly energetic and colorful. Voice acting is very good, and it fits with the characters. And we move on to the characters. The main character, Star is also constantly energetic and joyful, but she isn't afraid to teach some monsters a lesson. The other main character, Marco, is kinda the supporting character and he's just the average guy with a almost magical twist to him. Even the freaking villain is awesome, always hunting for Stars wand, and even his minions are well done as a concept. The stories are also well done and have kind of a Gravity Falls/Steven Universe vibe to them. In fact, i think someone who also worked on Gravity Falls worked on this, and we all know how great Gravity Falls and Steven Universe are. I hope they will make more episodes so everybody that enjoys it can keep enjoying it! A great masterpiece. I rest my case

Again, not sure what happened here. Can someone explain why suddenly in July the show received negative ratings? My overall experience with this show has been positive so what's up with the influx of 1 star reviews? I will never understand....
