Post Malone’s 14-song Nirvana tribute performance was recorded at his home in Salt Lake City with the backing of Travis Barker on drums, Brian Lee on bass, and Nick Mac on guitar. The setlist featured a wide-range of covers, from “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle” and “Lounge Act” to “On A Plain” to “Heart-Shaped Box.”

As if releasing his Nirvana tribute on vinyl wasn’t enough, Post Malone is taking his love for records even further— as previously reported, he’s been named Record Store Day’s 2025 Ambassador.

Nirvana’s Nevermind has just become only the ninth release to spend 700 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. When you eliminate greatest-hits compilations, it’s only the fourth studio LP to achieve that milestone.

The game-changing 1991 album sits at No. 120 on the latest Billboard 200 chart, it’s 700th non-consecutive week on the overall albums tally. Per Deadline, the hit Sky/Starz series Sweetpea has officially been renewed for a second season. Although there is no planned release date as of yet, star and executive producer Ella Purnell has already expressed her excitement at returning to the leading role of Rhiannon Lewis. Playing by ear is one of the necessary skills of a jazz musician — a skill that was put to the test when drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. and his band Generation Y were challenged with covering Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” after hearing the song one time.

For Owens — a Juilliard jazz instructor — it was his second time being challenged with covering Nirvana on the spot. He was tasked with spontaneously playing “In Bloom” earlier this year as part of Drumeo’s ongoing “For the First Time” video series, which we’ve covered on multiple occasions here at Heavy Consequence, including Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith’s viral performance of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “The Kill.”

MTV Staying Alive Foundation, Paramount Global and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have partnered on “In Bloom,” a short film anthology focusing on gender equity.

Directed by emerging female filmmakers from Nigeria, Kenya, India, the U.S. and Brazil, the anthology addresses a range of issues including period poverty, child marriage, gender-based violence, HIV self- stigma, family planning and women’s economic empowerment. As a part of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation’s mission of storytelling to change lives and Paramount’s “Content For Change” initiative, the series aims to champion new voices and enable conversations to dismantle systemic injustices in support of the U.N.’s gender equality goal.

A new deluxe reissue of Nirvana’s In Utero, is out today (October 27th) to coincide with the album’s 30th anniversary.

The original In Utero arrived after Nirvana had already become global superstars, and is thematically characterized by the band’s discomfort with their status, particularly from frontman, Kurt Cobain. Celebrating it on the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 2018, Consequence contributor Ryan Bray praised the album as “arguably the truest representation of what Nirvana was: a massive act with the principles and integrity of one half its size… It’s a difficult but ironclad document of artistic bravery.”

Norah Jones hosts a podcast called Norah Jones is Playing Along, where she welcomes fellow musicians for an hour of conversation and live collaboration. Her latest episode features Dave Grohl.

The episode was recorded back in April prior to the release of Foo Fighters’ latest album, But Here We Are, but is only being released today. It’s an absolutely phenomenal listen.

During their 90-minute powwow, Jones and Grohl performed several songs together, including a few Foo Fighters rarities that Grohl hadn’t played in years — or ever, for that matter. Notably, with Jones’ backing on piano, Grohl played “Statues,” from 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, for the very first time. He also revisited “Razor” and the Jones duet “Virginia Moon,” two songs from In Your Honor that hadn’t been performed live since 2006.

A deluxe reissue of Nirvana’s In Utero will be released on October 27th, 2023 to coincide with the album’s 30th anniversary.

The expanded tracklist boasts 53 previously unreleased tracks, including two complete In Utero-era concerts: a 1993 performance in Los Angeles and their final Seattle concert in 1994. There are also six bonus live tracks taken from shows in Rome, Springfield, and New York. All of the live material was reconstructed from soundboard tapes by engineer Jack Endino.

The reissue also boasts the album’s 12 original songs and five bonus tracks and B-sides, all of which have been newly remastered from the original analog master stereo tapes by Bob Weston.

The 30th anniversary edition of In Utero will be available in a variety of formats, including as a limited-edition 8xLP Super Deluxe box set, a 5xCD Super Deluxe box set, a 2xCD Deluxe edition, a 1xLP vinyl edition, and a digital Super Deluxe edition.

Nandi Bushell may have been born in 2011, but her cover of Queens of the Stone Age’s “No One Knows” proves she’s skilled beyond her years. The 9-year-old played Dave Grohl’s drum parts perfectly — he briefly played with the band in 2001 — on the song that appeared on Songs for the Deaf.

Dave Grohl joined Trombone Shorty & the Orleans Avenue on Saturday for a rare live performance of Nirvana’s “In Bloom,” the grunge-pop anthem from 1991’s Nevermind. The Foo Fighters frontman hopped behind the drum kit for a jazzy instrumental version of the song during Trombone Shorty’s Voodoo Threauxdown at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Sarajevo Film Festival (August 16-24, 2013), now in its 19th year, is an international film festival with special focus on the region of Southeast Europe, it provides high quality programming, a strong industry segment, an educational platform for young filmmakers, the presence of numerous representatives of film industry, film authors and media representatives from all over the world, as well as over 100,000 visitors, thus confirming the festival's status, renowned and recognized by film professionals as well as by its audience.

It serves as a catalyst for cooperation within the region, and establishes connections with partners from all over the world. It also represents a platform for development of film business in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the region, as well as setting new standards of festival organization and film presentation. While Karlovy Vary Film Festival has the Best of the East which gives a good view of finished films from Eastern Europe and is especially kind to journalists around the world, Sarajevo simultaneously hosts Cinelink, a very pro-active co-production market and workshop and Talent Campus which is a part of the Berlinale. This general networking of the world film industry is even more interesting because of its location in the city of Sarajevo itself. After the 4 year long siege of Sarajevo, it was founded as a means to recreate civil society of the City in 1995.

American actor/activist Danny Glover will curate and present the award for this year's Katrin Cartlidge Foundation Award to a new cinematic voice whose work embodies Katrin Cartlidge’s “integrity of spirit and commitment to independent film”. Cartlidge, who died in 2002, was a British actress best known for her work with Mike Leigh and whose last role in the Bosnian filmmaker Danis Tanović’s No Man’s Land. Over the past nine years the Foundation has appointed a curator, selected from Cartlidge’s friends and colleagues, who in turn chooses a recipient for the annual award, a cash bursary, which is announced at a special red carpet gala at the Festival.

This year, all the selections of the Sff Competition Programme will present a total of 50 films. This brings the best of regional cinema and follows the Sarajevo Film Festival strategy of discovering new talents, approaches and tendencies rooted in the world cinema today.

For the final line-up of the Competition Program, programmers and the Sarajevo Film Festival team saw 750 films from the region, including 200 feature films, 150 documentaries and 400 short and animated films. This year's selection, but also the general interest in our Competition selections, encourages the Sarajevo Film Festival in its determination to continue working on strengthening regional film production, promotion and film distribution. This is even more strongly emphasized by the fact that this year, in its three Competition selections, the Festival brings 14 world premieres, 7 international and 19 regional ones.

Sarajevo Talent CampusSarajevo Talent Campus, the educational and networking platform for emerging filmmakers from Southeast Europe, was launched in 2007 in cooperation with Berlin International Film Festival and Berlinale Talent Campus. The programme offers inspiring lectures, panel discussions, and active critical debates, complemented by workshops, practical tutorials, screenings and inter-festival excursions for participants. The 7th Sarajevo Talent Campus, taking place from the 18th to the 24th of August, will be inviting scriptwriters, directors, actors, producers and film critics. Sarajevo City Of FilmAs the continuation of the activities in accordance with the goals set by the Sarajevo Talent Campus, the Sarajevo City of Film Fund was launched in 2008. The project is aimed at testing the knowledge and experience gained by the Sarajevo Talent Campus participants through the practical application in realisation of low-budget short films, as well as development of cooperation between the young creative authors whose work represents the future of the regional cinematography. Sarajevo City of Film Project has so far led to the filming of 20 short films screened worldwide and won numerous festivals awards.

Feature film competition five world premieres and four regional premieres, including multi award-winner In Bloom.

The Sarajevo Film Festival (Sff), running August 16-24, has announced the Feature, Short and Documentary Competition titles comprising 50 films.

Selectors and the Sff team viewed 750 films from the region, including 200 feature films, 150 documentaries and 400 short and animated films.

Across the three Competition sections are 15 world, seven international and 18 regional premieres.

The main competition will feature five world premieres including Carmen, the first feature by Romanian director Doru Nitescu.

It is a family drama co-written by Tudor Voican, known for Periferic and Medal of Honour. The Filmex Romania production stars Doru Ana from Principles of Life, Adrian Titieni from Child’s Pose and Maia Morgenstern.

Greek director Dimitris Bavellas’ debut feature Runaway Day is a black-and-white film exploring how young Greeks feel lost in modern day Athens, a city under financial occupation. It starts Maria Skoula from Wasted Youth.

Selection reveals diversity of European films

The ten films selected for the Lux Prize 2013 Official Selection were unveiled at the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival at a reception last night (30 June)

The films including the UK's The Selfish Giant, are said to reflect "the richness, diversity and excellence of European cinema."

The titles are:
