No idea what I just watched

I wish I could get my 20 minutes back. It was set up well, the acting was good, and the actors were noticeable. The story line had premise. Advertised as though it would chill me to the bone... I'm hot under the collar after that. I have no idea what this was meant to be about; the only inclination I even had that it was the end of the "film" was that she was dressed better and the music changed. I did film studies so I get metaphors, and I don't understand this. This was like the first 20 minutes of what may have been a decent film. It isn't wrapped up, so don't waste your time. Or do, and review it so I know what I just watched!

Wth was that?

It was advertised as being chilled to the bone which I really needed because it's extremely hot right now where I am lol! Unfortunately nothing of that sort happened. It was one confusing scene after another, the only good thing here was actress Alfre Woodard whom I love! I honestly have no clue what I just saw and if I have to use 100% of my brain power to make sense of it all it's not worth watching! In the end the main character started writing (supposedly she was a writer) and the title of her ( article, book?) was " what will it take to protect black women?" as if only black women needed protecting! I wish we could fast forward into the future where hopefully there is no more mentioning of any skin colour because frankly I'm getting tired of it and I know for a fact that many others do to!

What will it take to make good movies?

When I saw Alfre Woodard was in this, I had to see it. She always brings class to every role and is such a natural actress. It's not her fault this script was bad. It just made no sense. Yes it's a short, but shorts are usually meant to leave you wanting more or are begging to be made into feature films. Everything about this is misleading. Intentionally? You keep watching hoping it will go somewhere and that the dialogue will improve, or that the characters will become interesting or fleshed out at least a little, but...what was that ending?! All that just to make it about race in a situation where race had literally nothing to do with anything?!?! What a wasted opportunity. Yes sometimes racism exists in 2023, but once again the demand for it far exceeds the supply.

(I will) Survive

No pun intended - I found this short on Netflix and was intrigued by the poster. I assume the same is true for you, if you are here reading my review. Trying to figure out if this is something worth your time. If you like dramas with quite a few twists, then the answer is a resounding yes.

Acting wise this is really good - editing wise and the effects are also quite good. The story tries to pack a lot of things - issues women have or have to deal with. This is not easy to watch under that respect. But what doesn't kill you ... makes you stronger, right? But what if you are your own enemy too? Well there is a lot to unpack - for a short movie this is really filled with metaphors and great images. I am surprised it was rated this low to be honest. But I assume people were not ready or didn't like the themes ... or maybe they thought it has too many things packed in. Still if you suspend your disbelief and put yourself in her shoes ... well hopefully you'll understand.

There's some good stuff here.

Here's The 4K Lowedown on "Weathering" (TV-MA - 2023 - Netflix) Genre: Thriller/Psycho

My Score: 6.0 Cast=3 Acting=7 Plot=6 Ending=2 Story=6 Intense=6 Pace=9 Suspense=7 Psycho=8 Twist=6

After losing her baby and nearly her life during labor, a journalist unravels amid disturbing visions and chilling attacks as she grieves alone at home.

"Whatcha trying to do...snatch your body back?" There was some good stuff here...the suspense coupled with the psychopathy of the lead was really good. The only thing i didn't care for was the ending...it was like they just threw it together last minute. Whether this is good or bad news, the movie is only 20 minutes long...it will not take much out of your day to see it.
