Aamir Khan and Rajnikanth team up after 30 years for the film. They earlier worked in Aatank Hi Aatank (1995).
The Hindi version was initially titled 'Coolie'. On June 23, with the release of the Chikutu Hindi music video promo, it was announced that the title would be changed to 'Majadoor'. Following significant backlash from the audience, on June 26, the Hindi version was retitled 'Coolie The Powerhouse'.
This is Aamir Khan's first film which he accepted to do without even reading the script.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj"s father was a bus conductor and his badge number was 5821.To pay a tribute to his father he used the number 5821 as Rajnikant's badge number as a Coolie.
