When I stumbled upon the 2014 movie "Watch Phoenix Rise" here in 2025, I had never heard about it, and thus I didn't know what I was in for. Now, I didn't figure "Watch Phoenix Rise" for a movie from Maverick Entertainment, as the cover was not one of their generic and formulaic covers that they tend to use.
Writer Damon A. Hart put together a generic script to say the least. It was a rather mundane storyline, and the characters were mostly stereotypical caricatures. And the dialogue wasn't exactly noteworthy. I have to say that I was starting to zone out and drift off not even 30 minutes into the ordeal. But by then I was just struggling to keep an interest in the pointless narrative.
But it wasn't all bad though, because the movie at least was a step up from the usual dumpster fire of stereotypical dribble that Maverick Entertainment usually dish out.
I was not familiar with the actresses and actors on the cast list. While that is usually something I do enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie, it just wasn't applicable here, because many of the performances were wooden. But then again, the actresses and actors didn't exactly have a lot of material to work with.
This is not a movie that I would recommend you to waste 91 minutes on watching. Some of us suffered through this, so you don't have to; you're quite welcome.
My rating of director Ramasses Head's 2014 movie "Watch Phoenix Rise" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
