The controversial winner of Best Original Anime at the 2025 Anime Awards was also one of the most pirated anime series of 2024. Ninja Kamui, the adult action anime by the Season 1 director of Jujutsu Kaisen, was an illegal streaming hit during its initial run on Cartoon Network's Toonami block on Adult Swim.

Jason DeMarco, the co-creator of Toonami and senior vice president of Anime and Action Series/Longform for Warner Bros. Animation, was interviewed by the Toonami Faithful podcast about his work on the famed anime-action block, as well as his current position at Wba. DeMarco discussed Ninja Kamui, which was recently renewed for two brand-new seasons. Ninja Kamui’s surprise multi-season renewal announement followed an unexpected win for Best Original Anime at this year's Crunchyroll Anime Awards -- an upset considering the mixed reception to Season 1 and its more critically acclaimed competition, such as Girls Band Cry and Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night.

One year after its initial TV airing, the fate of the anime-original series, Ninja Kamui, has finally been revealed. The animated follow-up from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 director Sunghoo Park has been renewed for two additional seasons for Cartoon Network's Toonami block on Adult Swim.

According to Variety, Ninja Kamui has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 for Adult Swim. The surprise anime announcement was one of many made by Cartoon Network and Adult Swim at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, currently taking place from June 8 to 14 in Annecy, France. Ninja Kamui's renewal comes after the Toonami series won Best Original Anime of 2024 at this year's Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Dragon Ball Daima took the crown from Solo Leveling Season 2 once again at the 2025 Astra TV Awards. The winners were recently announced at the Sls Hotel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.

According to the Hollywood Creative Alliance, a committee of 35 entertainment industry professionals determined the winners of this year's award show. While the majority of the nominees focused on live-action programs, such as The Studio for Apple TV+, recent anime TV series were honored as well. The award for Best Anime Series went to Dragon Ball Daima, which premiered in October 2024 and ended in February 2025. Daima defeated Solo Leveling, which was heavily favored to win, following its impressive and somewhat controversial winning streak at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

The highlight was ofcourse Solo Leveling bagging the Anime of the Year award, pushing aside competition from Dandadan, Delicious in Dungeon, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Kaiju No. 8, and The Apothecary Diaries in the process.

Netflix is gearing up to unleash the long-awaited anime series adaptation of Mokumokuren’s hit psychological horror manga “The Summer Hikaru Died” this year, and the news comes with new images and character details.

The streamer hasn’t announced an official release date just yet, but the upcoming series will be available on Netflix worldwide in 2025.

The hit manga series followed “an ordinary high school boy, Yoshiki, who experiences various mysterious incidents in his life with Hikaru, a mysterious being who imitates his best friend Hikaru Indou. The story of “whatever it is” and the boy’s madness has garnered significant attention, making it a must-see anime film.”

CloverWorks, the Japanese animation studio behind hits like Spy x Family, has released a brand-new trailer for its upcoming theatrical movie about three young men acquiring telepathic powers from a mystical hedgehog-like creature. Fureru, releasing this fall, also features the creative team behind Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.

The movie's official X (formerly Twitter) account shared the latest trailer for Fureru. The initial teaser from early July advertised the main creative team behind Fureru, including Tatsuyuki Nagai (director), Mari Okada (writer and director) and Masayoshi Tanaka (character designer). The trio -- who commonly go by the name of the Super Peace Busters from the childhood friend group of Anohana -- worked on the 2011 TV anime series and 2013 movie, as well as The Anthem of the Heart and Her Blue Sky. This newly-released trailer digs deeper into the main story of Fureru, which marries the supernatural with coming-of-age elements.
