Imagine you live in a world where contract marriages don’t even turn heads. Where the institute itself is to be improved upon. Where you can be married to someone for a year and then forget about them forever. The Trunk tells the story of a man who is forced into a contract marriage by his ex-wife as a test for them to get back together a year later (I know!). However, this contract marriage completely changes this man, Jeong-Won’s life. The series begins with the titular mysterious trunk being found in the middle of a lake. The series follows two mysteries, one of the trunk and one of the marriage itself.

The Trunk has a stellar cast that features renowned South Korean actors led by Gong Yoo and See Hyeon-jin. Based on The Trunk by Kim Ryeo-ryeong, the Netflix K-drama follows Han Jeong-won, a music producer who gets intertwined in a one-year marriage contract orchestrated by a company called New Marriage (Nm). As the two characters get to know each other, they come across a trunk which helps them discover that the marriage agency has some dark secrets.
The Trunk explores the complexities of marriage, and the actors are perfectly suited to bring director Kim Kyu-tae’s vision to life. Goblin’s Gong Yoo, who plays the male lead in the series, carefully chooses his roles. So the fact that he is part of The Trunk’s cast shows that the Netflix miniseries has something special. The series features other renowned K-drama actors, including Seo Hyun-jin, Jung Yun-ha, and Hong Woo-jin.

In the dystopian future, a group of youths partake in a wildly popular, and very deadly, competition that's become a major source of entertainment. Sounds like "The Hunger Games," right? Well, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about "The Long Walk," Stephen King's nasty 1979 novel published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Now, I'm not saying "The Hunger Games" is a rip-off of "The Long Walk," but there are definitely major similarities — which is probably why Francis Lawrence, the helmer of several "Hunger Games" movies, has been hired to bring "The Long Walk" to the screen.
Lawrence is by no means the first filmmaker attached to this project. At one point, the legendary George A. Romero wanted to turn "The Long Walk" into a movie. Later, Frank Darabont, who directed the Stephen King movies "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile," and "The Mist," was attached to helm. Eventually, like Romero,...

During a new episode of “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” on SiriusXM’s Faction Talk (Ch. 103), Sammy Hagar revealed he’d like to help sift through Van Halen’s vault of unreleased songs – which he said features “probably a lot of Eddie [Van Halen’s]” music – and work on anything that’s unfinished. But he doesn’t want to get fans “too freaking excited” about that happening because he doesn’t think Alex Van Halen is interested in opening the vault.

Any fan of true crime podcasts will tell you the cardinal rule of staying alive: never get in the trunk of a stranger’s car. You lose the ability to control your location and your odds of survival dramatically decrease once the lid of this mobile prison slams down on your head. But what if avoiding the trunk is no longer an option? What if you awaken to find yourself trapped in the boot of a stranger’s car as it speeds down the highway? Marc Schießer’s Trunk – Locked In explores this claustrophobic nightmare with an intimate story told from inside the rear compartment of a kidnapper’s vehicle. Despite its limiting premise, this German film unfolds at a breakneck pace as a kidnapped woman must use all the tools at her disposal before reaching a final destination that will mean certain death.

Trunk: Locked In is a harrowing and intense thriller where a young woman wakes up drugged and bound in the trunk of a car. The gripping film takes place primarily in the confined space of the trunk, with the protagonist, played by an excellent Sina Martens, using her phone and surroundings to piece together her dire situation. While the film starts strong, it loses tension with predictable twists in the second act, but its stomach-churning premise, strong performance, and tense first half are great.

There is no shortage nowadays of movies with interesting ideas, but it’s generally in the execution that they falter. Trunk: Locked In is a German film directed by Marc Schieber that not only has an intriguing premise but a fantastic execution as well. The idea is not entirely new. Films like Buried and Guilty have had a go at it in their own ways, but Trunk: Locked In gets the best of both worlds. It has the claustrophobia from Buried coupled with the thrilling investigation by a police officer from their control room, as seen in “Guilty.” The economy of characters allowed Scheiber to experiment with shot composition and weird cinematography that seem inspired by Gaspar Noe. Everything works in this claustrophobic thriller, and the smartest thing about it is the exposition, which does not give the audience too much time to apply their analytical minds to assess the plot.
