Apart from his good looks, charm, and acting skills, Kim Soo Hyun once garnered widespread popularity as the highest-paid Korean actor. If impact is a word, then Akira Toriyama is a manifestation of it, especially through his manga series Dragon Ball. It reshaped and redefined Shonen for decades in terms of tropes and storytelling. It is no doubt the manga is deemed the “Father of the Big 3” with its massive influence.
With Dragon Ball Daima, Toei Animation took their finesse to a whole new level, especially since it was Toriyama-sensei’s final project. And rightly so, it was carefully put and executed, be it pacing, visuals, and its rich lore. The series nearing its closure has most fans on the verge of tears.

From record-breaking romances to revenge dramas full of incredible twists and turns, 2024's best K-dramas have been nothing short of entertaining. Though some of the shows have been well-anticipated successes, others have been a big surprise and have proven that a Netflix release isn't crucial to a K-drama's international success. In that way, the future of the genre is looking even more exciting.
2024's shows are some of the best K-dramas of all time and are all bingeworthy, despite their different tones and stories. Career-best performances, tightly woven storylines, and incredible K-drama couples are just some of the keys to their individual successes and show the very best of what the genre has to offer. These 2024 K-dramas make bold choices to deliver hours of entertainment and solidify them as must-watches for all K-drama fans.

2024 started off immediately with some of the best K-dramas dropping at the beginning of the year. There were action-packed, supernatural, and definitely some romantic comedies setting the tone for how the year would look. With more and more K-dramas coming to Netflix, Disney+/Hulu and Amazon Prime, there are an endless number of K-dramas to watch with all your favorite stars who have shown year after year that they have what it takes to deliver the right performances to stir the masses. Gyeongseong Creature came back with their new season, and it was just as good as the first. Park Shin-hye starred in Doctor Slump and The Judge From Hell this year-- both were worth a rewatch.

Many compelling romance K-dramas came out in 2024, but the best one surprisingly premiered towards the end of the year and is streaming on Netflix. Both in terms of viewership and overall quality, 2024 was a great year for romance K-dramas, with many memorable shows like No Gain No Love, Marry My Husband, Love Next Door, and Doctor Slump seeing the light of day. While some of these garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, others amassed cult followings due to their strong performances, unique story beats, and impressive production values.
However, long before the Christmas season arrived, and the clocks struck 12 to change the date to 2025, a brilliant romance K-drama arrived on Netflix. Following a weekly release schedule, the K-drama improved with each episode, gradually luring in more and more viewers. Unsurprisingly, it consistently remained among the most-viewed non-English series on Netflix during its long run. Although Squid Game got immense...

In a year where the K-drama industry is booming, the largest trend that’s taking over is creating “universes,” like Marvel. It is quite a shame that the genre, which was known for compelling storytelling that viewers related to, has suddenly chosen to look to the West for inspiration. On the other hand, there’s the obsession with webcomics being adapted for our screens, which is, of course, super exciting, but what happens to the original stuff? Don’t get me wrong; each of these approaches has churned out some gems, but it occasionally feels like something’s been lost. I will admit I found my love for K-dramas again this year. I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I started watching K-dramas, and over the years I used to consume everything thrown at me blindly. But, a few years ago, I realized I was exhausting myself instead of enjoying this pastime.

Prepare for intense action, gripping drama, and plenty of undead thrills because Netflix will be releasing a fan-favorite Korean zombie series on its platform tomorrow! Can you guess what show we're talking about?
No, it's not All of Us Are Dead. However, that's another great Korean zombie series. A second season of this show has been in the works at Netflix for a while now, but it's unknown when it will come out.
The zombie show that we'll be talking about in this article is Happiness. Unlike All of Us Are Dead, which is a Netflix original, Happiness is a show in which Netflix acquired the streaming rights. This means it won't stay on the streaming platform forever. So, it's imperative that you get to watching it as soon as possible.

As someone who has been a fan of K-dramas for many years, there are several actors I never get tired of watching. From boisterous romantic comedies to tragic thrillers, these actors have delivered outstanding performances in some of the best K-dramas of all time, improving their filmographies with every new release. Their commitment to their roles brings a vibrant addition to each new project, and I'm always excited to see what new characters these actors will take on next.
Netflix K-dramas such as Squid Game and The Glory have helped the K-drama genre to rise in popularity. I believe that actors have played a big part in this, as their delivery can often make or break a show. The K-drama genre is also incredibly diverse, and actors often have to stay on top of their game and push themselves to deliver the next best thing. Korean Drama or K-Drama has been growing in popularity over the last few years. As usual, regional television shows generally hit their peak within the country that it’s produced in. For instance, back in the 1960s and 1970s, K-Drama was consumed almost exclusively in Korea.
Eventually, Korean-based projects made their way across the world following the end of the military rule in South Korea. Obviously, there would have been much more to watch during that time than just Death Row Prisoner (1956).

Miss Night and Day is a terrific K-drama that balances comedy, drama, and a few thriller elements on one big weekend platter. The end of episode 4 certainly had me gasping and desperate for the next episode. Netflix sure knows what it’s doing when it comes to weekend K-dramas. After Doctor Slump and The Atypical Family, I have apparently become glued to my screen come Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Miss Night and Day has got to be the funniest of the lot, though. While Doctor Slump was hilarious too, it was a darker show overall, but for the moment, Miss Night and Day seems to mostly be giving us fun rather than anything emotional as of now. However, mark my words, I know this one’s going to be a tearjerker somewhere down the line. For now, though, let’s quickly dive into the major plot points of episode...

Dragon Ball is one of the premiere manga ever existing in the medium. Beginning in the 1980s, it introduced legions to Goku and several of his allies. This wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the late mangaka legend Akira Toriyama, an industry icon. His influence was so great that he created many other creations outside his magnum opus, so some diehards may not have even heard of them.
The other Akira Toriyama creations were often similar and different from Dragon Ball Z. These included the campy comedy of Doctor Slump and the adventure seen in the different versions of Sand Land. Following the creator's unfortunate passing not too long ago, many fans of the medium are going back to explore all the overlooked Akira Toriyama works.

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.
