A gem of Indian film

The greatest tribute to this movie and the late Mr. K Balachander were the number of families who named their daughters as Kavitha after seeing this movie in honor of the heroine of this movie who sacrificed everything for her family who were never grateful to her and no award can be greater than this. No character in any movie could have had so much impact that families would want to name their children in honor of the heroine of that movie.

We know people name their children after characters from the Holy Hindu Scriptures, or the Holy Bible or the Holy Quran, but naming their children after a character in a movie, that would be the envy of every director in the world. Every word from the heroine brought gasps from the audience. Fiery dialogues. Kavitha is probably the most powerful character created on the silver screen anywhere in the world. This movie challenged the role of heroines in Tamil cinema. Think of all those whom you know with the name Kavitha, they would have all been born after 1974. The Hindu said in its review, "it will be very, very difficult to match this movie". This movie was a block-buster hit.

All songs penned by Kannadasan are unmatched.Never ever a poet can write songs like this for very complex situations. Philosophical lyrics, awesome tune, golden voice, unequaled rendition, natural acting, the hypnotic magic of black and white photography, will remind you truly of a bygone golden era.Special mention should be made for MS Viswanathan who gave an awesome music.

This film is an gem for entire Indian film industry .
