Sabrina Carpenter has been taking over the music scene with her irresistibly catchy tunes; her latest album, Short n’ Sweet, is no exception. The multi-talented singer and actress has been making waves, not just for her music but also for her eventful love life. From high-profile romances to whirlwind flings, her relationships have often found their way into her songs, keeping fans buzzing with speculation.
Even before she dropped the steamy lyrics of her newest album, Carpenter’s dating history had already been a hot topic. Over the years, she’s been linked to fellow Disney stars, had romances that inspired heartfelt tracks, and experienced fleeting connections that were, well, short and sweet.

While the album’s title may hint at her petite stature, Carpenter has clarified that it’s actually a nod to past relationships, some of which, despite their brief duration, left an impact on her.

You would not be crazy if you confused Steven Knight’s 2013 man-confined-in-a-car movie Locke with director David Yarovesky’s new thriller Locked, which has Bill Skarsgård trapped in a nightmare car with no way out. The former had Tom Hardy as a troubled guy named Locke watching his life unravel during a feature-length road trip. This one has Skarsgård as Eddie, a deadbeat but well-meaning dad to Sarah (Ashley Cartwright) and petty thief whose attempt to steal a luxury SUV turns into disaster because its unseen psycho vigilante owner named William (Anthony Hopkins) has rigged it so bad things happen. And there is no way out as he continues to pull the strings remotely in this motorized fortress as he carries on a conversation with the imprisoned Eddie.

Fire. Air. Water. Earth. Long ago, a television series won over the hearts of audiences across the globe. A world where elements could be bent, spirits could cross over, and hodgepodges of animals roamed free. In this world, one such bender bridged the spirit world to the material while wielding each of nature’s elements: The Avatar.
From Avatar: The Last Airbender to Avatar: Legend of Korra, fans were treated to adventures that explored the depths of its characters and expanded on the world-building. Just as Aang set out to restore harmony and Korra endured subsequent threats to the world’s natural state, the new avatar must find their direction.
Announced on February 20, 2025, Nickelodeon's Avatar: Seven Havens left fans with several questions about its premise. In a post-apocalyptic world, the new Avatar must contend with legions of upset spirits and humans on her journey to destiny. The world blames the Avatar for the disarray.

Set almost entirely during an urgent car ride, Babak Anvari’s “Hallow Road” begins as an intensely performed, deftly minimalist family thriller about two parents driving to the scene of their daughter’s accident while keeping her on the phone. That’s all you need to know going in, and all you should really learn beforehand, given how this race-against-the-clock premise unfolds, before swerving in completely unpredictable ways.
Few films have ever induced such immense tonal whiplash while exhibiting such tight formal control over their transformations. There’s a very clear boundary separating the kind of movie “Hallow Road” starts out as from what it eventually becomes, which all but cements its place as a fascinating artifact of this year’s midnight movie scene. Some might say it jumps the shark in order to achieve this distinction, but as Donald Glover’s character once naively noted on “Community,” “There was...

Filmmaker Steven Knight shows no signs of slowing down. The creator of the hailed crime series, “Peaky Blinders,” Knight is both an in-demand writer and director and often both (see “Locke” and “Serenity”). Fresh off the “Peaky Blinders” movie, which finished filming earlier this year (which may be called “The Immortal Man”), Knight’s latest creation is the genre hybrid series, “A Thousand Blows.

If you were ever wondering what a blank check earned off the success of a show as popular as "Peaky Blinders" can buy you, the answer is a new streaming series as thrilling and well-crafted as "A Thousand Blows." Creator Steven Knight, the prodigious screenwriter behind movies such as "Locke," "Spencer," and the recent biopic "Maria," could've gone in any number of directions after crafting the Cillian Murphy-starring story about a gang of criminals making their way up from the slums of Birmingham to the very seat of power in early 1900s England. The fact that he chose to stay in roughly the same lane, this time set in 1880s London and following a gang of female thieves crossing paths with a pair of aspiring boxers from Jamaica, is precisely what makes this next effort so intriguing to watch. Write what you know, the old adage goes, and Knight...

A fully occupied surgical ward staffed only by two nurses and a reluctant apprentice sounds like a recipe for disaster. “Late Shift”, a slight and simple drama about one nurse’s torrid night at the hospital, makes that clear, if it wasn’t obvious enough already. A fairly transparent attempt to show how tough life is for nurses even in clean, well-kept, highly advanced facilities, “Late Shift” even ends with cards of information about the shortage of nurses afflicting all four corners of the globe, and how it’s getting worse. But noble intentions aside, writer-director Petra Volpe’s film is ultimately too much think, not enough feel.

Move over, John Kramer — there's a new twisted vigilante in town! And this ain't just any old bloodthirsty kook either: it's Hannibal Lecter himself, Sir Anthony Hopkins. Yes, in David Yarovesky's upcoming single location thriller Locked, Hopkins plays William, a Jigsaw-style cool, calm, and collected killer who traps unsuspecting lout Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) in his luxury SUV when the down-on-his-luck thief tries to steal his car. Thus ensues a battle of wits as William employs all sorts of cruel, car-based torture to punish Eddie while his hostage fights for survival. And you can check out the trailer for the Sam Raimi produced horror thriller, a remake of original 2019 Argentinian effort 4x4 (which itself has been remade once already as 2022 Brazilian flick A Jaula), below:
"I just want to introduce you to a little taste of hell," Hopkins' William — only heard, never seen — tells Eddie in this cheek-clenchingly tense first trailer for Locked.

Ruth Wilson’s power to switch between vulnerability, resilience, and outright manipulation makes her one of the most versatile actresses in films. A bright and daring actress, her repertoire ranges from works like Jane Eyre to The Affair. Her layered characters make for some of the best drawn-out characters in movies and TV shows, even if she is not leading them.

Wilson gave some of her finest performances in a number of films and TV shows, with each of them receiving more critical acclaim than the previous ones. One of these performances never had her on the screen, yet she was able to paint a perfect picture of her character.

Ruth Wilson shines in a film filled with caricature-ish roles. See How They Run is a comedy murder mystery that takes you back to the 1950s London theater scene.

Tight, single-area films can be beautiful exercises in tension. Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window revealed how much suspense can be squeezed out of a film following a man stuck in his room while obsessively looking far outside his window, as well as crafting a tense murder plot all inside one New York apartment. Steven Knight's Locke centers on a man in his car, torn between his family and his new family with a mistress. These elegantly simple narratives are magnificent when they land, but there's little room for error with few extraneous variables to distract the audience. Flight Risk, the new Mel Gibson directorial outing, is a similar kind of tale, following characters trapped in a dangerously small plane with even more of a dangerous man. Some elements and moments are effective, but they're layered with subplot details, character performances, and related choices that don't work as well as intended,...

Paatal Lok (Season 2) – Paatal Lok Season 2 dives deeper into Hathiram’s journey, exploring new dynamics, sharp storytelling, and the heart of neo-noir grit.
If any show could be guilty of being over-read or over-analyzed, it would be Amazon Prime’s “Paatal Lok,” which was released during the heyday of the pandemic, would emerge as a sleeper hit, which then snowballs. Hindsight is extremely kind to the show, whereby iconography becomes memorable, either due to the sheer potency or the popularity of characters. Hathoda Tyagi became a lexicon after the first season, while the show’s kind-hearted viewpoint towards animals became both a point to be admired as well as mildly ridiculed.
But that would take away from the greatness of “Paatal Lok” as a show, and that is the structure and the filmmaking of the show itself. A neo-noir with a taut narrative that very rarely loses the viewer within...

From Peaky Blinders to Spencer, See to Maria, and Locke to Sas Rogue Heroes, prolific writer-filmmaker Steven Knight has delivered and helped deliver some of the great dramatic haymakers in contemporary film and TV. And with his latest effort, upcoming 'inspired by true stories' Disney+ drama A Thousand Blows, the man from Brum is set to deliver some literal haymakers as he takes us — and stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and Malachi Kirby — into the murky world of illegal boxing circa late 1880s Victorian London. If it sounds like a recipe for a knockout, then the latest trailer confirms it looks like one too. Check it out below:
"London, the Lion's Den," intones Graham's bare knuckle brawler-cum-boxing empire overlord Henry 'Sugar' Goodson at the start of this new trailer, "Don't matter if you were raised here or you just got here... you learn to fight." As tone-setting opening gambits go,...

Tom Hardy is known for not holding back in his performances. From Venom to Taboo and everything in between, he’s always recognized how to make an impact by going big. The film Locke shows a rarely seen side to Hardy’s acting talent, in a more subdued and measured role. As the sole actor on-screen, Hardy spends the entire film driving a car from Birmingham to London, interacting with people only on the phone. Less is more with this performance—between Hardy’s calming voice and intense searching gaze, he builds a full portrait of this character and the existential crisis he is facing. The drama is small and personal, but the stakes are heightened by how much Hardy’s performance draws in the audience.

Traditional horror movies with an easy-to-follow plot, relatable characters, and a healthy dose of scares are probably every horror fan’s comfort food. That’s because, when it comes to horror, the experimental and abstract genre pieces can be very hit or miss. In 2024 alone, I have come across In A Violent Nature, and I loved its take on the slasher subgenre. Bramayugam’s exploration of casteism and classism on a monochrome canvas was excellent. Oddity’s portrayal of revenge was haunting. And Outside’s use of the zombie subgenre to talk about the patriarchy was worthy of all the applause in the world. Then you have movies like Night Swim, The Devil’s Bath, Consumed, Baghead, The Hangman, Munjya, MadS, Mr. Crocket, and Don’t Move, which undoubtedly have a good concept at their core, but the execution is simply too muddled to be impactful. I am sad to say that...

Plot: When Anne and Patrick hail a black cab after a night out their driver is chatty, jovial even, but they are in no mood to talk. In fact, the couple is barely on speaking terms. That is, until they realize the driver has no intention of taking them home. Locked in the cab with no means of escape, the driver transports the couple to a stretch of deserted and supposedly haunted road. But what is his purpose? Is he mad or just plain evil? And why has he selected Anne and Patrick as his victims?
Review: Most of us have had a less-than-enjoyable ride in a cab or an Uber. At least with rideshares, you can tell if the driver has been a creep or not, while a taxi is a complete crapshoot. Jumping into a cab, we generally trust that we are safe, but everyone knows someone who...

If the plot of Time Cut sounds a bit familiar, it should, Totally Killer covered much of the same ground not that long ago. But despite being released second, Time Cut was actually filmed a year before Totally Killer was announced. Maybe it should have used its time machine to get to our screens first.
The film begins in 2003 in Sweetly, Minnesota, where a killer known as The Sweetly Slasher has been targeting the local teens. Summer’s best friend Emmy was one of the victims, and she’s forced herself to come to the party honouring her and the other victims.
Unfortunately, the party gets some uninvited guests in the form of the police and The Sweetly Slasher himself. In the confusion, Summer ends up becoming a victim herself.

To be a fan of The Gentleman Bastards is to know a longing that few other fandoms outside of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire or Patrick Rothfuss' The Kingkiller Chronicle understand. Back in 2006, author Scott Lynch took the fantasy world by storm with the release of his novel The Lies of Locke Lamora, which was the first installment in a projected seven-book series called The Gentlemen Bastards Sequence. The following year, Lynch released Red Seas Under Red Skies, carrying on the tale of con man extraordinaire Locke Lamora as he headed to the marine city-state of Tal Verrar. The wait was quite a bit longer for the third book, The Republic of Thieves, which came out six years later in 2013.

Last year, it was reported that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was tapped to pen the screenplay for the untitled Rey-centric Star Wars movie with Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached to direct. The new cinematic Star Wars installment is the same one that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson originally penned before they departed. Knight is best known for creating Peaky Blinders, the period crime drama starring Cillian Murphy, but he is also known for his work on Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke, Allied, Spencer, Taboo, See, Sas: Rogue Heroes, and more. It’s said that this new Star Wars movie will mark the franchise’s return to the big screen following the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow wont take flight until 2026, but James Gunns fantastic new update is a promising one. The co-chair and co-ceo of DC Studios showed up at this years New York Comic Con (Nycc) and openly praised the work of both the film's director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Ana Nogueira. Gunn said during his appearance at the comic book convention (per Bleeding Cool):
"The writer and director have been doing a fantastic job spearheading it. We start shooting in January in England. I saw the screen test with Milly Alcock and it's so exciting. Ana's pitch about Supergirl was one of the best pitches I've ever heard. It's based on Tom King's comic Woman Of Tomorrow with some differences in structure, but it has those characters and themes."
Actress Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) won the highly coveted role of Supermans (David Corenswet) Kryptonian cousin back in January of this year.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been such a coveted hub of entertainment that it’s either the place where everyone is or everyone wants to be. The popularity of the franchise comes with its own perks, as you get access to unlimited resources, and people from every country that has an accessible film theater become familiar with your work. But it has its downsides because the franchise works like a conveyor belt and every project has a stupid deadline that stifles creativity. And since a lot of directors are in there, sometimes for very long periods of time, it’s interesting to see how the process of making a Marvel project has affected their vision and whether that change is palpable in their post-mcu career. Jon Favreau made the amazing Chef and then went right into the conveyor belt with Disney remakes and Star Wars’ Mandalorian IP. James Gunn made the fantastic The Suicide Squad.

20th Century Studios gave the Maze Runner trilogy director Wes Ball’s addition to the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (read our review Here), a digital release earlier this month, and the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release is scheduled for August 27th – but before we get there, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will begin streaming on the Hulu service as of August 2nd! All nine prior films in the series are also streaming on Hulu, so fans will have the chance to binge-watch the entire Planet of the Apes franchise there!
The story of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set many years after the conclusion of War for the Planet of the Apes. Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence.

Joe Locke is known best for his standout role in Heartstopper but Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along could be the project that shoots the 20-year-old into superstardom.
While he's been named "Teen" in official press materials for the Disney+ series, the prevailing theory is that he's actually playing Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. the Young Avenger Wiccan!
Talking to Rolling Stone, Locke was asked what fans can expect from the WandaVision follow-up.
"It’s a dark comedy about witches. It’s not what you would usually expect from a Marvel series," he says, confirming that Teen helps free Agatha Harkness from the spell the Scarlet Witch cast on her when they last crossed paths. The unnamed character then persuades Agatha to take him on her journey down the Witches' Road.

23 years into his film career, Tom Hardy is still impossible to pin down. Is he a leading man? A full-on movie star? A character actor? Would he be perfectly happy to just make Venom movies until he retires?
Here's what we do know about Hardy: he's handsome, he loves trying on weird accents (which we ranked here at /Film), and he commits fully to every role whether it's a prestige picture or a superhero flick. Critics dig him (even if they do not dig the "Venom" movies at all), and he's tremendously respected by his fellow actors. He's one of the best we've got. But it's been 16 years since his breakthrough bravura performance in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Bronson," and, for whatever reason, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' membership has only managed to nominate him for one measly Oscar.
What gives?

Nothing fancy, no pyrotechnics or sudden plot twists—just a wizened old cabbie and his female, millennial-aged passenger making their way from J.F.K. to midtown Manhattan, slowly revealing themselves and challenging each other’s assumptions. To help pass the time during an ugly traffic jam, they engage in a friendly game of conversational one-upmanship, each sharing details about their own life and offering perceptive observations about the other’s. Lightly flirtatious small talk progresses toward the confessional, and gradually an intimacy forms that’s specific to people who know they won’t see each other again.
Such is the premise of writer-director Christy Hall’s debut feature, Daddio, a film as tedious and predictable as its traffic-clogged Long Island Expressway setting. As Clark, the straight-talking chauffeur, Sean Penn turns in a relaxed, un-showy performance that stands in contrast to Dakota Johnson’s more studied work as the troubled...

Tom Hardy's career started with memorable roles in Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers. Hardy has showcased his versatility in a variety of genres, from action blockbusters like Inception to intimate dramas like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. In movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight Rises, Hardy has proven himself as a charismatic leading man who thinks outside the box.
Since making his big screen debut in Black Hawk Down, Tom Hardy has built a career as a versatile leading man, working with many of the best directors in the business. Hardy first made a name for himself in HBO's war drama Band of Brothers. Like many of the stars of that show, he has since gone on to bigger and better things. Hardy steadily built a career as a supporting actor before establishing himself as a leading man with hits such as Bronson and Warrior.

Toronto has long been a popular destination for major productions thanks to its solid and skilled crew base, competitive tax credits, extensive studio space and growing tech sector. Projects such as Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Amazon’s hit show The Boys and Netflix comedy Ginny & Georgia are just some of the 24 productions that are shooting (or close to shooting) in Ontario’s capital city. And while its modern infrastructure and very stable and long-established system of local and federal incentives have always been a big draw to the region, this is, say locals, just one piece of the puzzle as the city looks to build on this growth.
“The economic argument is that the production services tax credit is here, and it’s been stable for a really long time,” says Marguerite Pigott, the Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries for the City of Toronto. “This, plus...

Fresh off her turn in Marvel‘s maligned “Madame Web,” Dakota Johnson is returning to indies with Christy Hall’s feature directorial debut “Daddio.” Sean Penn co-stars as a lone-wolf taxi driver and old-guard New Yorker who picks up Johnson’s character, Girlie, from JFK. On the journey back to Brooklyn, they share a heart-to-heart about life, love, sex, relationships, and more.
For Johnson, working with Hall was no different from working with more established filmmakers. “Well, it’s different every time. It depends on the person,” Johnson told IndieWire. “Sometimes you would never guess that it was somebody’s first feature, and sometimes it can be really challenging.” Production took place in just 16 days and primarily on a soundstage. Not only does Johnson star, but she also serves as a producer, alongside her TeaTime Pictures co-founder Ro Donnelly.
“This is, it’s just such a gem of a project.

Tom Hardy is most popularly known for committing to intense characters that are morally complex. The actor goes method in everything he does and dives deep into the skin of the character to embody them. Films like Bronson, Warrior, Locke, The Revenant, and The Dark Knight Rises display his brilliant transformative performances.

In 2018, when Steven Zaillian began writing a first draft of Ripley — his TV adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley — one item in his office made its way into his screenplay: the heavy crystal ashtray that (spoiler alert) kills Freddie Miles in the fifth episode.
But Zaillian’s foray into the story of con man Tom Ripley started long before 2018. Ten years ago, a unique proposal popped up on his radar — a TV series. “If it had been proposed as another movie, I would’ve said no,” he tells THR, “but as an eight-hour series, I thought, ‘This could be interesting.’ ”
For starters, he wanted the limited series — about a grifter, Tom Ripley, who covets, and then kills for, the lifestyle of his wealthy former classmate Dickie Greenleaf — to be in black and white. “When I first read the book, it’s how I felt it should look.

Joe Locke is teasing Heartstopper Season 3 and says it will tackle darker issues.
Locke attended Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers on Thursday and teased what viewers can expect when the third season of the Netflix series premieres on October 3.

This summer, Spider-Man: Homecoming gets a proper homecoming in Londons West End, as Tom Holland takes on William Shakespeare. Retracing the roots that made him famous in theaters via Billy Elliot, Marvels most bankable asset takes to the stage to become a Montague for the newest take on Romeo and Juliet. Back on home ground rather than racking up billions at the box office, it marks a moment of quiet reflection for an actor who successfully carved his own niche in popular culture by embodying Peter Parker.
But in 2016, when Holland debuted as the wall-crawler in Captain America: Civil War, the MCU rolled the dice on Spider-Man's third recast. It may be hard to remember now, but Holland wasn't a sure bet back then. To say that there was a lot riding on his extended cameo in Iron Man's pro-Sokovia Accords team-up is an understatement. The Veil features a talented cast with recognized faces from acclaimed drama series, promising an intriguing psychological thriller experience. With a solid IMDb rating of 7.7/10 for its first two episodes, The Veil sets the stage for a slow burn narrative that hints at a satisfying payoff. It’s rare to find a star whose taste you can trust beyond their performance; the kind of actor who’s proven to be as discerning in their projects’ quality as they are in choosing rewarding individual roles. There simply aren’t that many Julia Louis-Dreyfuses or Carrie Coons out there, with either impeccable résumés or a Hall of Fame-worthy batting average. But Elisabeth Moss is among them.
As a TV lead, she’s steered some of the modern era’s greatest programs: seven masterful seasons of “Mad Men,” two staggering seasons of “Top of the Lake,” one stirring season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” (and a few more she carried on her back). Even her single misfire is minor: The 2022 Apple TV+ series “Shining Girls” is more intriguing and better than its (lack of) recognition. Plus, it arrived amid a smattering of strong film work that befit her premium brand.

The Veil is another example of why we are in the golden age of brilliant female characters on screen. These strong, smart, and cunning female characters own the screen and set them ablaze. It just so happens that many can be found on FX. A network that celebrates edgy and innovative storytelling, with great female roles at the series center.
Often, these roles subvert female stereotypes. You have Anna Sawai’s brilliant performance in Shōgun, one of the greatest roles in television history, who gives a thoughtful, sumptuous, and cunning performance.
