The new Bleach anime has improved visuals and action sequences, but the fights lack personal stakes, making them less compelling and heartfelt than the original series. The lack of connection between the Soul Reapers and the Sternritter in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc diminishes the emotional impact of the fights, reducing the villains to mere boss battles. The original Bleach anime had memorable fights with personal stakes for both sides, creating a greater emotional impact. The current Tybw arc should focus on giving Ichigo personal stakes to end the series on a memorable note.
In many ways, the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime is an improvement on its 2000s-era successor. In the Fall 2022 and Summer 2023 anime seasons, longtime Bleach fans were treated to modern animation, better pacing, hard-hitting plot twists, and even some great intro credits sequences. But there are still issues in the story itself, most of all why these heroes fight.

The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime was a standout title in the Summer 2023 anime season, alongside Jujutsu Kaisen. The new Bleach anime's second cour is more of what made the first cour so great – bombastic action scenes, electrifying characters, slick animation, and of course, enough shocking plot twists and developments to keep viewers engaged. In the current era of Bleach, nothing is what it seems, and fans can't take anything for granted.
The previous Bleach anime scene swiftly resumed the brutal Thousand-Year war between the Soul Reapers and their longtime enemy, the Quincy empire. Season 2 is packed with explosive new developments for Bleach's heroes and villains alike, subverting expectations and pushing the anime in bold new directions with shocking twists and turns.

Feted in Busan this week as the Asian Filmmaker of the Year, Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat bemoaned censorship in China for its impact on the film industry.
“We have a lot of censorship requirements in mainland China. Scripts must go to many departments. So, we need [to portray] clear situations in scripts. Honestly, we will try our best to make movies with Hong Kong spirit. In the 1980s people watched a lot of Hong Kong films. I’m proud,” said Chow at a press event at the Busan International Film Festival on Thursday.
“After 1997 [the year when Hong Kong ceased to be a British colony and was returned to China] a lot of things changed. We have to pay attention to our government. Otherwise, it will be hard to get the money to make movies. The Mainland market is so huge.”
Insisting that he is “just an ordinary person,” Chow spent much of the rest of the event emitting a joyful and relaxed aura, discussing his love...

The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime arc has brought back most of the franchise's best characters, like Ichigo Kurosaki's squad of friends, and introduced many new heroes and villains. That includes the Wandenreich, the hidden Quincy empire, whose members are hellbent on destroying the Soul Society once and for all to usher in a new age. Only the strongest and coolest Bleach characters will survive and thrive in a war arc like this.
Some of Bleach's coolest characters got written out of the story back in the Tybw anime's first cour, including Head Captain Yamamoto and Captain Retsu/Yachiru Unohana of squad 4. Now, there's ample room for the rest of Bleach's best and most compelling characters to stand in the spotlight and keep the story moving in true style. Some are familiar anime heroes, and others are making their big flashy debut with a strong first impression.

When you think of Grammy darlings, Foo Fighters should come to mind. The icons have received 15 Grammys throughout their career, including a record five wins for Best Rock Album. But all these awards, while impressive, have not helped the rockers win outside of the rock and music film fields, despite the group picking up a couple of general field nominations along the way. It’s hard to argue against Foo’s general field losses against heavyweights like Adele, Herbie Hancock, and Amy Winehouse, but it does feel like the legendary band should have won a big category by now after getting nominations for more than 25 years. What if I told you their time is finally here?
Foo Fighters’ “But Here We Are” is arguably the band’s most beloved album by critics. On Metacritic, it holds a score of 86, the highest of their career. Part of the record’s critical...

The 2016 revival of Gilmore Girls ended with a shocking twist: Rory Gilmore reveals she's pregnant, which was always planned by the creator. The ending received mixed reactions, with some feeling it was a disservice to Rory's character and didn't fit tonally with the rest of the series. While there have been discussions about a potential season 2, it seems unlikely as the cast and creators have expressed a desire to move on and the first revival season wasn't as well-received as expected.

2023 has been a massive year for country music. Four country songs have topped the Billboard Hot 100 this year, the second most ever after 1958. One of those songs, Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” spent 16 weeks atop the chart, tying for the second most weeks at number-one ever and breaking the record for the longest-running solo number-one in Hot 100 history. Other hits that haven’t reached number-one, like Luke Combs’s “Fast Car,” have still been huge hits this year while being unabashedly country. And number-one albums like Zach Bryan’s self-titled and Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” have proved that the appeal of country is not just for songs, but for albums as well. Clearly country music is having a moment with the general public, so there’s a lot to consider about how much it’s impacting the industry and how that might be reflected in the upcoming Grammy nominations.

All year is “Survivor” season. The CBS reality competition series, which debuted in 2000, has been hosted by Jeff Probst from the start. Each season follows a group of strangers in an isolated location — the show has been based in Fiji since Season 33 in 2016 — as they provide shelter and food for themselves. Competing in both physical and mental challenges, contestants are voted out until one remains as the “Sole Survivor” and the winner of the $1 million cash prize.
The cash reward was upped to $2 million for “Winners at War,” the 40th season of the show that featured, for the first time ever, a cast of all former winners. Season 28 winner Tony Vlachos took home the prize, becoming the second to win two seasons, alongside Sandra Diaz-Twine, who won Season 7 and Season 20.

It takes guts to follow up an album like Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour,” but she might’ve just done it in the best way possible. Rodrigo’s “Guts” marks the singer’s first release since her massively-successful debut, which won three Grammys and scored multiple top-10 hits in the US, including two chart-toppers (“Drivers License” and “Good 4 U”). Being the successor to such a pop staple of the 2020s, will “Guts” be able to outperform “Sour” in awards recognition? Lana Del Rey dropped her ninth studio album on March 24. Called “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.,” it’s produced by Del Rey herself along with Mike Hermosa, Jack Antonoff, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Benji. But what do critics think of the 77-minute collection of songs behind that verbose title?
As of this writing “Did You Know” has a MetaCritic score of 80 based on 13 reviews counted thus far: 11 reviews are classified as positive, and two are somewhat mixed, but none are outright negative. That’s a few points above her career average of 76, but it’s on par with her last two releases: “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” (81) and “Blue Banisters” (80). Based on early listens, though, its user score is through the roof, with over 200 fans rating the album with an average of 9.7 out of 10.

“Thank you Martie and Emily for sticking by me. I told you I’d take you to the Grammys!” said The Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines to her bandmates Martie Maguire and Emily Robison upon accepting Song of the Year for “Not Ready to Make Nice” at the Grammys in 2007. Watch them accept the prize above.
Maines, Maguire, Robison, and their writing partner Dan Wilson claimed the Grammys’ top songwriting award after a long, tumultuous road for The Chicks. At the Shepherd’s Bush Empire theater in London, England, in 2003, Maines said on stage that she was ashamed then-President George W. Bush was from Texas. This led to a swift backlash from country music fans and radio stations, with the band also receiving death threats.

Ed Sheeran announced on March 1 that he’d be releasing a new album, “Subtract,” on May 5, and just three weeks after that announcement (and more than a month before its release), the album has already climbed into the top 10 in our Grammy odds for Album of the Year based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Check out or latest odds here, and make or update your own predictions here in our predictions center as the season progresses.
Sheeran is already a four-time Grammy winner, including a Song of the Year victory for his love ballad “Thinking Out Loud.” He also has three past noms for Album of the Year. The first was in 2014 as a featured artist on Taylor Swift‘s “Red”; they lost to “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk. The second time was in 2015 for an album of his own, “Multiply”; “Morning Phase” by Beck ended up taking the prize.

Hogwarts Legacy is based on the Wizarding World universe created by J.K. Rowling. You can read more about Rowling’s history of transphobic remarks as well as find resources to support LGBTQ organizations here.
2023 is only a few months old, but Hogwarts Legacy is already shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest hits. Fans love the game, and it sold faster than chocolate frogs at a Bogo candy sale despite the many controversies surrounding it. While a new set of Hogwarts Legacy stats suggest that not that many people actually stuck around to finish the game, the full context of those statistics tells a slightly different story.
Recently, several outlets reported that only 25% of Hogwarts Legacy players have earned the “Hero of Hogwarts” achievement on Steam (which is reserved for gamers who finished the campaign). That percentage has jumped up to 25.3% since then, which isn’t much of a difference.

The Grammy for Best New Artist is often criticized. Some think the award is a curse, and oftentimes goes to artists who don’t end up being relevant for long. Another common criticism is that it’s often late to the party on certain acts, nominating them after their peak or a year or two after they were actually new to the music scene. Still, in the grand scheme of things, many of the nominations or wins artists get, even if they’re late, are deserved. Here are four artists who got their Bna spotlight a bit later than they should’ve.

If you check predictions for the 2022 Grammy nominations, you’ll see that Måneskin were pretty much locked in for a Best New Artist nomination. This made total sense: the band had a banner year with their single “Beggin’” and their international success from Eurovision.

Ask any pop music fan to tell you who the biggest artists of the year are, and their answers will likely include R&b-superstar Sza and pop icon Taylor Swift. Both Swift and Sza are having amazing years, repping the success of their late-2022-released albums “Sos” and “Midnights,” respectively. Big success often translates to some sort of Grammy recognition. As such, and with no other true front-runner this season so far, let’s consider the idea that either Swift or Sza will end up taking the Grammy for Album of the Year.
There’s good reason to believe both of these ladies are front-runners. On Swift’s side, it’s clear that the Grammys really respect her, as she’s the only woman to win Album of the Year three times. On top of that, virtually every album she releases gets acknowledged in one way or another. Additionally, “Midnights...

Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe are one of Hollywood's most notable director-actor collaborators, but in addition to their universally praised masterpiece movies, they've also made critically panned, instantly forgettable duds. After receiving some of the best reviews of their respective careers for Gladiator, Scott and Crowe reunited and received some of their worst for the romantic comedy A Good Year. Their collaborations since then – the gritty crime biopic American Gangster, the stylish spy thriller Body of Lies, and the classical action-adventure Robin Hood – have been a mixed bag.
As proven by their initial partnership on Gladiator, Scott and Crowe are a match made in heaven. Ever since achieving back-to-back success with Alien and Blade Runner, Scott has been one of the most acclaimed directors in Hollywood. Meanwhile, roles in L.A. Confidential and The Insider had defined Crowe’s perfect combination of movie-star charisma and award-worthy acting chops. The gravitas...

“Abbott Elementary” and “Top Gun: Maverick” received top honors at the 60th annual International Cinematographers Guild (Icg) Publicists Awards luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday.
The awards honor individual publicists, unit still photographers and entertainment journalists who further publicity campaigns for film and TV. Variety’s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay and senior entertainment reporter Angelique Jackson each earned nominations from Icg.
Quinta Brunson of “Abbott Elementary” received the TV showman of the year honor, and the producers of “Top Gun: Maverick” received the honor on the film side, with Bruckheimer accepting on behalf of all four.
In her speech, Brunson had the crowd laughing as she commended the role of publicists. “I didn’t know that this award show existed…but I’m happy that it does exist, because you all do a job that is incredible, crucial and underappreciated,” Brunson said. “It’s important to have publicists who understand the vision,...

This year’s acting races have been delightfully unpredictable. No actor has managed to sweep the major precursor awards. Now, this may make Oscar prognostication more difficult for pundits, but all the more exciting for it. One race that is coming more and more down to the wire as we approach Sunday’s ceremony is Best Actress.
Frontrunners Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh both were victorious at the Golden Globes in their respective categories and shared the overwhelming majority of regional critics prizes. After gaining momentum the past two months with Critics Choice and BAFTA, Blanchett looked to be the sure winner by many. However, after the guilds chimed in and “Everything Everywhere All At Once” began its surge, Yeoh made a comeback with a win at SAG scalp, which completely turned the tables on the trajectory of this race.

Iggy Pop has raised the curtains on a new documentary short film, featuring his longtime friend and mutual fan Flea. The brilliantly-titled Bitten by Flea! is out now, and you can watch the whole thing via YouTube.
The half-hour doc centers on in-depth conversations between the two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, as well as studio time together with the acclaimed producer Andrew Watt. Throughout the video, the pair discuss how The Stooges influenced a young Flea, how Iggy’s songwriting has changed throughout the years, receiving a somewhat condescending letter from Bono, and more. They also gush about their experiences working with Watt, who we just so happened to name 2022’s Producer of the Year.

Chalk it up as yet another set of accolades for celebrated conductor-composer Lydia Tár – despite all that trouble with the former student and the questionable power dynamics she fosters, she’s come up trumps once again. At the 43rd London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, TÁR was named as Film Of The Year – with its director Todd Field) winning Actress Of The Year.
While Field’s film, exploring the downfall of the presented-as-a-real-person Lydia Tár, bagged the biggest award of the night, the Critics’ Circle also gave plenty of recognition for The Banshees Of Inisherin, which bagged five awards on the night. It was named British/Irish Film Of The Year, with a Screenwriter Of The Year award for Martin McDonagh, respectively.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Aftersun (including Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker for Charlotte Wells and Young British/Irish Performer for Frankie Corio), recognition for All The Beauty And The Bloodshed...
