Prolific British unscripted outfit The Garden has nurtured a reputation over the past decade for a string of hit fixed rig shows for broadcasters such as 24 Hours In Police Custody and 24 Hours in A&e, but has recently turned to more formatted fare including the Squid Game gameshow and Channel 4’s Alone, a UK version of the History hit.

Netflix has defended freezing cold conditions on an outdoor U.K. set where its real-life Squid Game unscripted series saw contestants sustain injuries while competing as winter temperatures plunged below zero.

On Wednesday, the streamer and its co-producers pushed back on claims in The Sun tabloid newspaper that players had been severely injured during production on a former air force base near Bedford, in England’s eastern region, during a rare cold snap.

“We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set — and participants were prepared for that — any claims of serious injury are untrue,” Netflix and Studio Lambert, which is co-producing Squid Game: The Challenge along with The Garden, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Sun reported that cast members of Netflix reality competition series “Squid Game: The Challenge” required medical attention while filming during freezing weather conditions in an airplane hangar. Per The Sun, the 456 people competing for a 4.56 million prize were playing a game of “Red Light, Green Light,” also known as “Statues,” in minus 3 degrees Celsius weather, roughly 26 degrees Fahrenheit. Contestants had to remain completely motionless for the game, with some unable to move their feet due to the cold.

The series began production on January 23 in Cardington Studios in Bedford, England. Netflix reportedly gave contestants hand warmers and thermal underwear to wear while in the freezing weather conditions.

Fewer than five players required medical attention. One contestant also injured their shoulder after accidentally running into a wall.

Dominic Buchanan and Bennett McGhee’s new production company Home Team has hired Jessica Hill as its new senior development executive, where she will support the producers in an effort to promote under-represented talent.

Hill joins Home Team from Sister, where she spent three years and was script executive on HBO and Sky’s upcoming series “Landscapers” and the BBC and Netflix’s “Giri/Haji.”

“Bennett and Dominic are dynamic producers with creative integrity and deservedly great relationships with talent,” she said in a release. “Their growing slate demonstrates their commitment to unexpected, unique storytelling and I am absolutely delighted to be joining them at Home Team.

Almost four months after the BBC reformed its television division, the corporation has appointed the two leads for its most prominent channels.

Syeda Irtizaali and Jo Smith have been tapped as the two new Portfolio Editors working across BBC One and BBC Two and Four. Irtizaali will take on BBC One, while Smith will manage BBC Two and Four. They will start their new roles on April 12.

Chief content officer Charlotte Moore introduced the new structure for BBC Television in December — a revamp that restructured the Beeb’s television division accordingly around a new iPlayer-focused strategy, coupled with plans to scrap channel controller positions and empower the broadcaster’s genre chiefs.

Both Irtizaali and Smith will report directly to Dan McGolpin, director of BBC iPlayer and channels, who will bring together all of the programming and curation activity across iPlayer and the channels.

Netflix has confirmed most of its upcoming content for July, so it’s time to take a look at what’s on the horizon. ITV Studios’ non-scripted outfit The Garden has appointed Nicola Brown as director of programs, the company announced on Friday. Brown will join chief executive Magnus Temple, chief creative officer John Hay and managing director Nicola Hill to help grow and deliver the company’s expanding slate of programming.

Brown will begin her new role in March. She joins from Channel 4, where she was a commissioning editor in the specialist factual team, overseeing “Sas: Who Dares Wins” and a raft of new series, including “Meat The Family” and the upcoming Joanne Lees and Peter Falconio crime series, as well as the channel’s new factual digital strand “True Stories.”
