I havent seen the agramon's gate everyone says this movie completely copied, but i will say the movie seemed to bore me a lot. But it is indeed trying to convey childhood traumas which is a good concept. I think they had this great concept but it just wasn't written well and then the acting had some average people but also a lot of really new people to acting.
All in all i congratulate them on finishing the project but at the same time - not to sound bad - but I am surprised this got released. I think it is good though because it was good practice for everyone involved but the actual merit as a movie itself is very .. well - it's not so great.
To be frank - anyone saying "this is good" is ... not to be trusted. And anyone saying "this is GREAT!" is ... insane.
I must say though - Aphrodite Nikolovski is very attractive and her voice was sensual - The star male's acting was by far the best but even he couldn't really seem serious with the script he was given. The music score was very good so i give it points for that - but as a movie itself it needed more work much more work - I can't really say much more.
Film: The Devils Left Hand
The story involves a seyonce in which the woman who contacts spirits suddenly gets an unexpected visitor and is let out.
Two couples that were apart of the seyonce start hearing and experiencing strange things even seeing them happen. It is revealed that Richie dead fathers spirit may have a part to play and relies on the help of the woman seyoncer and her partner to stop the evil spirit.
The story is a slow burn and involves returning faces from Harley Wallens past films . Yan Birch character is a large piece of the puzzle in this story giving a cold tone of his character.
The story does give suspense as to where or what this entity needs in order to fulfill its desire such as Richies mother and his friends but also struggling with dealing with his father. There are no quick easy ways given to kill off evil like many super natural films give an incentive for, the lead characters wing it and hope their methods work against this evil being.
I felt there should of been more connections with the other couple that attended the seyonce and being able to prey on their weakness of character than a creepy girl entity just feasting on souls before the last confrontation. It does feel somewhat offset such as when two girls are effected by this entity that kills their parents and runs to the main couple in story for refuge considering these characters make no real connection on the situation at hand.
It is a worth of a sit through if you want subtlety in a super natural film. Very little special effects involved and adds more physcho logical feel to the main entity and those surrounding it.
And I figured that since the movie had scored a 6.3 rating here on IMDb, when I sat down to watch it, then it seemed like I would be in for a fair enough horror movie experience. Little did I know just how wrong I would be proven.
Writer and director Harley Wallen delivered a rather lukewarm horror movie here. The script, storyline and narrative in the movie felt amazingly random, generally lacking a red thread throughout the course of the narrative. It felt and looked like writer and director Harley Wallen was just making things up on the fly as the filming of the movie progressed.
The acting performances in "The Devil's Left Hand" were fair enough. Nothing outstanding or great, though. But the actors and actresses on the cast list did well enough, given the limitations imposed upon them by the script - or lack thereof.
Something that did work in favor of "The Devil's Left Hand" was the special effects. Not that it was mind-blowing special effects that will knock your feet away from under you or anything. But taking into consideration the level of production and the amateurish feel that the movie had to it, then the special effects were actually fair.
For a horror movie then "The Devil's Left Hand" was a swing and a miss. Nothing scary about it throughout the course of the 98 minutes that the movie ran for. Again, things were just too random and inconsistent to have a proper build up for a scare effect.
My rating of "The Devil's Left Hand" lands on a three out of ten stars.
It hits all of the beats. The characters aren't very fleshed out but there is enough to understand what is going on.
Confused mediums is an interesting approach compared to the common all knowing wise person stereotypes most movies use.
The characters also don't always react in the same stereotypical ways. For example, seeing something in a mirror doesn't lead to the immediate turn around to an empty room.
