Laika is expanding into the world of live-action filmmaking for the first time, with an adaptation of John Brownlow’s upcoming debut novel, Seventeen.

Known for its groundbreaking work in stop-motion animation, the Oregon studio secured rights to Seventeen following an intense bidding war. The option announcement was made Wednesday by Laika’s president and CEO Travis Knight.

“For the past 15 years, Laika has been committed to making movies that matter,” he said. “Across mediums and genres, our studio has fused art, craft and technology in service of bold, distinctive and enduring stories. With Seventeen, Laika is taking that philosophy in an exciting new direction.”

Peter Janson-Smith passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the age of 93. He was a giant in the world of British publishing, a major figure in that arena for nearly seventy years. Serious James Bond fans will know him as Ian Fleming’s literary agent, the man who spearheaded the exploitation of Fleming’s 007 novels around the world from 1956 until Peter’s retirement in 2002.

On a personal level, Peter’s death is a great loss. For me, he was a mentor, a friend, a teacher, and someone I called my “English dad.” He was instrumental in the research for my 1984 book, The James Bond Bedside Companion, and he hired me to write the continuation James Bond novels in the mid-90s. In short, I owe much of my career to him.

The story centers on a suave British secret agent (Mark Strong), who is forced to go on the lam with his moronic soccer hooligan brother (Sacha Baron Cohen). Dominic Cooper has revealed a hugely embarrassing story from his youth, where he ended up revealing everything to some customers at a cafe.

The Fleming star confesses to the incident during his appearance on The Graham Norton Show tonight (February 21).

"I was working in a café wearing really tight jeans. I had two cappuccinos in one hand and pastries in the other," explains Cooper.

"As I approached the table it [Cooper indicates his groin area] fell out of my jeans and rested neatly on the table.

"There was nothing I could do. The customers were repulsed and I just backed off!"

The Sun reports that the The Hour and Four Weddings and a Funderal actor said: "I can't say I've seen all the films. I have no interest in them." She added: "It'a a boy's fantasy. I'm bored by Sean Connery. He doesn't do it for me." However, she said of the Sky drama: "I like the drama itself. Ian Fleming's interesting, the era's interesting." Monkey hopes she's not bored by costume drama: she is joining the cast of ITV's Downton Abbey for its upcoming fifth season.

BBC's stylized retelling of the life of Ian Fleming came to a close tonight when "Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond" aired its final episode. The four-part mini-series chronicled everything from Fleming's work with the Royal Navy to his troubles relationship with his mother.

This work was adapted off biographies about Fleming's life, and BBC America clearly presented how reported aspects of the author's history inspired his James Bond novels. In fact, in many ways Fleming was Bond in the flesh, even down to his real-life Bond girl, Ann O'Neill.

"Fleming" felt in many ways like the Bond project that will help tide fans over for the next official film, currently referred to as "Bond 24." That movie has a tentative Nov. 6, 2015 release date in the United States.

That Sky Atlantic's Fleming opts to open with this particular quote from the James Bond author is, intentionally or not, deeply ironic.

In actual fact, Fleming bears very little resemblance to reality - the script by John Brownlow and Don MacPherson takes huge liberties with the truth, using only the bare bones of Ian Fleming's life story to prop up a glamorous and glossy piece of escapism.

Fleming may have seen himself as a James Bond figure, but the reality was very different - Fleming then is the author's life story as he perhaps would have liked it told. This is an action-packed take on his life - packed full of romance and dramatic incident. This is a world in which Ian Fleming looked like Dominic Cooper.

Cooper plays James Bond's creator Ian Fleming in the four-part biopic, with Pulver cast as his future wife Ann O'Neill.

In the DS video, the pair talk the complex relationship that Fleming had with his most famous creation.

"Bond achieved all Ian's failings," Cooper says. "His vivid, wonderful imagination led him to create this person who he was really desperate to be."

Fleming is also described by its stars as a glamorised account of Fleming's early life, rather than a "detailed biographical account".

"It's a version of what he thought his life should have been," explains Cooper.

The scent and sweat of a film set can be nauseating first thing in the morning. But this is no ordinary location - Digital Spy is stood on the sweeping set of Sky Atlantic's Fleming in the grand city of Budapest.

Back in January 2013, the Fleming crew are staging an elaborate ballroom sequence that wouldn't look out of place in one of the films that Ian Fleming's James Bond novels inspired.

Fleming is a biopic of Bond's creator tinged with the style and sensibility of the 007 movies, though director Mat Whitecross tells DS and other assembled press that he was keen for the four-part drama to avoid parody or pastiche.

Ian Fleming was good at sex. Writing it, that is. And not just in the way James Bond bedded women with the frequency of a man allergic to standing up. Fleming made sure everything in 007's literary adventures was writ sexy: destinations, clothes, food, drink, cars, planes, even décor... everything in Bond's life was veneered with the seductive, the alluring. It still is. Well, you only live twice, why not make it fun?

It was an especially potent cocktail when he first introduced Bond's 'shagnanigans' to the grey British public in 1953.
