Blackpink member Jisoo and award-winning actor Park Jeong-min’s upcoming Korean zombie apocalypse series “Newtopia” is set to debut on Prime Video, the streaming service revealed on Wednesday.

The series will premiere globally on Prime Video Feb. 7 and on Korean streamer Coupang Play on the same date. It follows a couple’s journey to reunite amid a zombie outbreak in Seoul. Park plays Lee Jae-yoon, a man completing his mandatory military service, while Jisoo takes on the role of Kang Young-joo, his girlfriend navigating early career challenges.

“Having started his mandatory military conscription at a later age, Jae-yoon faces anxiety about his future. Due to challenges from being apart from his girlfriend Young-joo, they have a sudden break-up after an argument. However, a zombie outbreak spreads across the city, forcing Jae-yoon to step up as leader of his squad,” the official synopsis reads. “Meanwhile, Young-joo experiences her own difficulties as a rookie in the workforce.

Disney+ unveiled its upcoming Korean slate, including new titles The Murky Stream and The Manipulated.

Korean historical drama The Murky Stream will star Rowoon, Shin Yeeun and Park Seoham, the streamer announced at the Disney Apac Showcase in Singapore.

The Murky Stream will be directed by Choo Changmin (Masquerade) and written by Cheon Sungil (Netflix’s All Of Us Are Dead).

The Manipulated follows mild-mannered Taejung (played by Ji Changwook), who is wrongfully imprisoned for a heinous crime. He soon discovers that a mysterious figure named Yohan (played by Doh Kyungsoo) orchestrated his downfall. Fueled by vengeance, Taejung sets out to make Yohan pay.

The streamer said that among the top 15 best performing international original titles released on its platform last year, nine of them were Korean titles, based on views.

A second season of Korean sci-fi fantasy series Moving is in the works at Disney+, Disney confirmed on day two of its Asia Pacific Content Showcase in Singapore.

The announcement was made by Carol Choi, Disney’s executive vp original content strategy for Apac, although no details on dates and cast on Moving season two were provided. Series creator, the influential Korean artist Kang Full, will be involved in the second season.

The series, which launched in August 2023, has been a huge hit for Disney+ and Hulu, with the company saying that Moving ranked as the number one local original title globally on Disney+ last year.

Moving is an adaptation of a popular webtoon created by Kang, whose works have been adapted into several local films. The show, that’s also written by Kang, stars some of the biggest names in Korean film and television, including Ryu Seung-ryong, Han Hyo-joo and Zo In-sung.

Two of Korea’s A-listers, Hyun Bin and Jung Woosung, are set to appear in Disney+ original Made in Korea. The series will premiere next year.

Set in the turbulent 1970s, crime thriller Made in Korea follows Kitae, a man consumed with a desire for wealth and power, and Geonyoung, a stalwart prosecutor that stands in his way. Constantly at loggerheads, the pair find themselves involved in an era-defining incident that will forever change their futures.

Hyun Bin, who has starred in hits like Crash Landing On You and Confidential Assignment, will play the role of Kitae. After featuring in 12.12: The Day and Hunt, Jung will play the role of Geonyoung.

Renowned South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun is set to take the lead role in an upcoming Disney+ crime drama series titled “Knock-Off.” Scheduled for release in 2025, the series will explore the underworld of counterfeit goods. Kim will play the complex character of Kim Sung-joon, an ordinary office worker whose life takes a dramatic turn after losing his job during Asia’s 1997 financial crisis. He gets involved in the illegal counterfeit trade and eventually rises to the top as a global kingpin.

Joining Kim in the cast is actress Jo Bo-ah, known for her roles in “Tale of the Nine Tailed” and “Military Prosecutor Doberman.” She will portray Song Hye-jung, a police officer who specializes in enforcing counterfeit laws. Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced the on-stage guests at next month’s 49th edition, including Cate Blanchett, Alfonso Cuarón, and Malala Yousafzai.

The series, hatched by local streaming service Coupang Play, involves two lovers navigating a zombie-infested Seoul. The man, portrayed by Park Jung-min, initially encounters a zombie outbreak during his mandatory military service. His girlfriend, played by Jisoo (real name Kim Ji-soo) is an engineer with a new job who is waiting for his release. Separately, the pair criss-cross the city and fight off zombie attacks as they try to reunite.
