The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.
The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”
On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.
The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Nicholas Galitzine is definitely one of the most in-demand actors of this generation. While he has been in the public eye since 2014, Galitzine rose to greater prominence in the years between 2020 and 2024, with starring roles from one project to another including in the romantic drama Purple Hearts, the absurd teen comedy Bottoms, the queer rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue, the romantic dramedy The Idea of You, and the historical drama series Mary & George. He can next be seen as He-Man in the Masters of the Universe reboot, which is set for a 2026 release. Speaking about the upcoming feature, Galitzine revealed that the Prime Video live-action adaptation will be "quite different" from the 1980s animated series, titled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Sometimes the circle of television life isn't kind to shows that should be much more popular and/or successful, and they remain underrated until they either build a cult following, fizzle out, or get canceled far too soon. The past year wasn't without its long list of shows that deserved more love.

“Anora,” the free-wheeling tale of a sex worker who becomes entangled with the family of a Russian oligarch, and “I Saw the TV Glow,” a horror film about two teenagers whose obsession with a show causes them to lose grip on reality, dominated the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards nominations on Wednesday, picking up six nods apiece. Both movies are up for best feature, competing against the body horror film, “The Substance,” as well as “Nickel Boys” and “Sing Sing,” dramas that deal with different aspects of the criminal justice system.

The Mary & George true story reveals just how little the Starz show had to change to create a shocking and scandal-filled narrative that made the series such a hit. The 2024 drama draws from the 2017 book The Kings Assassin by Benjamin Woolley. Despite the many jaw-dropping moments in Mary & George, The Kings Assassin isnt a work of fiction. Its a carefully researched historical analysis of the lives (and deaths) of the real Mary and George Villiers, the Countess and Duke of Buckingham in 17th-century England.
Much like the source material, Mary & George exposes just how scandalous, dangerous, and (often) steamy life really could be for British aristocrats who moved in the royal court during the era of King James VI and I, the son of Mary, Queen of Scots. Theres plenty of violence and sexual content in the Starz show. However, as the Mary & George true story reveals, very little...

As we move closer to the end of 2024, now is the perfect time to look back at some of the worst shows of the year. It has been a fruitful year for TV watchers, particularly those who prefer to stream their series. We’ve seen an interesting mix of new shows and the anticipated return of old favorites. Still, this doesn’t mean they have all been winners.
Before we share which shows have been the most disappointing, let’s give recognition to some of the many series we’ve enjoyed the most. At the top of my list, I have Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, Prime Video’s Fallout, and Hulu’s The Bear season 3. I know Netflix’s Baby Reindeer also received a lot of attention, as well as the returning Prime Video favorite, The Boys with season 4. Which shows have made it to your favorites list so far?...

It was no small feat to get “Saturday Night Live” off the ground at NBC, and as a result, the cast of “Saturday Night” is pretty huge. In many cases, the actors also look eerily similar to the people they’re playing.
Hitting theaters everywhere on Oct. 11 after a limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles, Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” tells the story of the 90 minutes right before the first-ever episode of “SNL.” It’s chaotic and at the time, even Lorne Michaels couldn’t explain what the show was going to be.
Below, you’ll find the cast of “Saturday Night” alongside what their real-life counterparts looked like back then.

Lorne Michaels is the creator and, to this day, producer of “Saturday Night Live.” He’s played in “Saturday Night” by Gabriel Labelle, who had his breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans.

Wachtel and Coles are also shopping the drama “Base Camp,” which looks at the crowded — and dangerous — queue to get to the top of Mt. Everest. Playwright and screenwriter Anchuli Felicia King is the scribe behind that project.

Ever since he appeared in the Netflix original movie "Purple Hearts" in 2022, British actor Nicholas Galitzine has become a major breakout star ... but that doesn't mean he aced all of his early auditions. In fact, he says one of those auditions was so awful that he still cringes just thinking about it.
During a roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2024 — which also featured Jon Hamm ("Fargo"), Matt Bomer ("Fellow Travelers"), Clive Owen ("A Murder at the End of the World"), Callum Turner ("Masters of the Air"), and David Oyelowo ("Lawmen: Bass Reeves") — Galitzine and his contemporaries started talking about auditions, and despite being one of the youngest performers at the table, Galitzine had a lot to say. After the others shared some stories, THR brought up Galitzine's recent film "The Idea of You" and the fact that his co-star Anne Hathaway said he could have "chemistry with a lamp,...

Adar has been recast in The Rings of Power season 2, and the actor change might leave viewers wondering why Joseph Mawle is no longer portraying the character. Adar is a character original to The Rings of Power, and he plays a fairly mysterious role throughout season 1. It's later revealed that he's one of the Elves who was tortured by Morgoth. And The Rings of Power season 2 shows how he tried to kill Sauron, preventing him from reigning over the Orcs. This is why the Orcs call him "father," and it's why they help him conquer the Southlands.
Mawle plays Adar impressively in The Rings of Power season 1, conveying the villain's bitterness over his past and compassion for the Orcs with ease. The actor's performance makes Adar a compelling character, even though he's an antagonist. After Mawle's stint as Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones, it's no surprise the actor fit...

The live-action version of Masters of the Universe locked Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in May after being stuck in development hell for years. The film adaptation found a home at Amazon MGM Studios after both Sony and Netflix passed over the film. The latest update from the film has confirmed Riverdale fame Camila Mendes in the role of Teela, the Captain of the Royal Guard.

In the third episode of the Starz limited series “Mary & George,” Julianne Moore’s Mary, Countess of Buckingham, who is hell-bent on amassing power among the royal ranks, makes her first visit to the court of King James I (Tony Curran). When she arrives in a garish purple silk gown, her face painted a ghastly white and cheeks crudely rouged like a clown, the courtiers point and laugh. Absorbing their scornful looks, she makes her way to Lady Hatton, a formidable adversary played by Nicola Walker, who quips, “Who dressed you? A prostitute?”
Well, yes, in fact.

In an earlier scene, we see Mary’s sex worker confidante Sandie (Niamh Algar) help her get into costume. Mary is no fool. Though it’s never spelled out explicitly, it is strongly suggested that she plotted her fashion faux pas to attract the attention of the king...

With several Emmys stalwarts not eligible for nominations this year, it was expected that there would be a number of surprises among the 2024 Emmy nominations.
But while some series and stars broke through, other anticipated nominees from new shows didn’t fare as well as they’d hoped.
Despite a big awards push, Showtime’s The Curse failed to receive any Emmy nominations, with star Emma Stone among the awards hopefuls not nominated. Similarly, the Nicole Kidman-fronted Expats for Amazon’s Prime Video was also left out of this year’s nominations. Mary & George is a historical miniseries based on the book The King's Assassin, premiering on Starz. Julianne Moore stars in the show, bringing one of her best performances. No plans for a season 2, but similar historical dramas are available for fans to enjoy.
Those interested in watching Mary & George will be glad to know there are plenty of ways to stream the historical miniseries. Premiering on March 2024, Mary & George is a seven-episode miniseries based on the non-fiction book The King's Assassin by author Benjamin Woolley. The series depicts the rumored affair between James VI and I (Nicholas Galitzine) and George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham (Nicholas Galitzine) during the 17th century in England. Julianne Moore also stars as Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham and George's lawful wife.
Though the entire cast of Mary & George is excellent, it's Moore who powers the show, bringing one of her best performances in recent years.

Julianne Moore (May December), Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) and Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) have been set to topline Netflix’s Sirens, a female-driven, dark comedy limited series created by Emmy-nominated writer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler (Maid) and executive produced by LuckyChap.
An adaptation of Metzler’s play Elemeno Pea, which she wrote at The Juilliard School, the show centers on Devon, who thinks her sister Simone has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell. Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention. When Devon tracks her sister down to say Wtf, she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be. Told over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells’ lavish beach estate, the show is billed as an incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women,...
