Everett Grant has beef with Russian mobster Maxim Vasiliiv played by Oleg Prudius or if you’re a pro wrestling fan, Vladimir Kozlov. It seems Everett’s security company has been cutting into the Russian mob’s profits and they’re not happy about that. Since Phoenix is an action film, they decide to settle it with a fight to the death. That would be Everett’s death via a bullet to the head made to look like suicide.
WWE wrestler Natalie Eva Marie plays Everett’s daughter Fiona, Phoenix to her friends. She’s told of his death by General Shackleton. She knows he would never have killed himself and decides to put her hand-to-hand combat trainer’s skills to work finding answers.

It has been a long time since I’ve reviewed a direct-to-market Steven Seagal movie, in fact its been some time since I’ve so much as watched one for my own “pleasure”. I skipped over Sniper: Special Ops, Asian Connection, Code of Honour, and the most recent Dtv release End of a Gun, maily because after buying, watching, and often reviewing, every single film starring Seagal until the aforementioned I was suffering from Seagal burnout… A condition that often comes about in an audience when they realise that the once-agile former martial arts superstar has succumbed to appearing in extended cameos in the hopes that long-suffering fans – like myself – will buy the film on his name...

Set phrases to stun: why Benedict Cumberbatch should be given every classic movie line | Joe Queenan
If you’ve got a zinger in your film, it helps to have a powerhouse speaker, like Ving Rhames, to deliver it. But failing that, there’s a breed of magnificently inappropriate actor who can inject fun into anything
In the unjustly neglected 2013 direct-to-the-abyss gangster film Force of Execution, Ving Rhames mouths these memorable words: “Look, I don’t know what the fuck happened to you. But I’m the big dog here now. And my bite is far worse than your bite would ever be. You know all that karate shit, that shit is cool, but we six-oh. We put one to the dome. You feelin’ me?”
It is quite a mouthful. Playing an ambitious crime underboss bucking for a promotion, Rhames warns a young thug who possesses impressive martial arts skills that even the most complete mastery of karate and tai chi and aikido and kung fu will...

Steven Seagal has criticised Liam Neeson, saying that the Taken star is not a proper action hero.
Martial-artist-turned-Hollywood-star Seagal, whose credits include Under Siege and the recent Force of Execution, suggested that the Oscar-nominated Schindler's List actor wasn't "a great warrior".
Speaking to The Big Issue, Seagal said that Neeson was lucky to be getting so much work in action roles.
"He can't fight, he's not an action movie guy at all and he's getting action movies now so that should tell you something," Seagal commented.
"He's a great dramatic actor. Is he an action guy? No. Is he a great fighter, a great warrior? No. Let's be honest."
Seagal also lamented the demise of the more traditional action movie, adding that visual effects had levelled the playing field for the genre.

Steven Seagal has never been a big name in action movies for me. I’ve seen the popular ones he’s in such as the Under Siege movies but he never caught my interest like somebody like Jean-Claude Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren. This is probably why when I sat down to review Force of Execution I was more interested to see Danny Trejo’s name appear than Seagal, though even that is not a seal of quality.
In Force of Execution Steven Seagal plays Thomas Douglas a crime lord who has a desire to retire and get out of the life of crime. At the same time Ice Man (Ving Rhames) is looking to make his mark on the criminal underworld and take what Douglas has built. As Ice Man makes his move,...

Force of Execution is 2014’s must-own action film, starring heavy-hitting action-aces Ving Rhames, Steven Seagal, Danny Trejo and Bren Foster.
Crime lord Mr. Alexander (Steven Seagal – Maximum Conviction), after years of sitting at the throne of a powerful underworld empire, decides it’s finally time to go straight. However, things won’t be that simple when another drug boss, known only as Ice Man (Ving Rhames – Pulp Fiction), is set on making a name for himself at Alexander’s expense.
Targeting Alexander and his men, Ice Man wages a war that threatens to change the shape of the whole criminal underworld. With Ice Man hell-bent on taking over the throne, one thing’s for sure, Mr. Alexander won’t be retiring quietly.
Force Of Execution is out to own on DVD and Blu-Ray on 3rd February 2014. To be in with a chance of winning this fantastic action title, you just...

"Ain't Them Bodies Saints"
What's It About? This little Texan indie is part romance and part dramatic thriller. Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara, and Ben Foster headline this top-notch cast about a man on the run, the woman he loves, and the sheriff who tries to get between them. (Not in a romantic way, just, you know, because he's a man of the law and Affleck's character broke out of jail.)
Why We're In: It's a slow and sweet Sundance favorite, and the Texas weather looks a whole lot hotter than the snow most of us are dealing with every day.

Prisoners I still need to set aside the time to watch Prisoners again, but I've been listening to J?hann J?hannsson's score quite regularly as it is undoubtedly one of the year's best. I won't deny Prisoners has a few narrative hiccups that may have made it an otherwise better film, but it's still a good one and one of the best films 2013 has had to offer, especially one of the best studio films. Great performances from Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal and some mean cinematography from Roger Deakins.
The Lone Ranger As much as everyone (myself included) railed on The Lone Ranger and as much as it has been considered the biggest flop of the year, I expect it's a film that will live on on TV and home video and ultimately break even and eventually garner a profit. Once we all get beyond judging it with an extreme critical eye,...

There are a lot of visual graphics added to most action flicks that hit theaters, but sometimes it is nice to sit back, relax and watch some hardcore action created by a slew of people who know how to use their bodies for visual effect. This week, Anchor Bay Films is releasing Force of Execution onto Blu-ray and DVD, and we.ve got an exclusive clip from the film that will give you a taste at what real action looks like. In the clip, Jimmy Peanuts (Danny Trejo) is meeting up with a crew of unsavory individuals in a dark and dangerous alley. The gang wants to know what is in a box he.s holding, and while the situation seems dangerous, Peanuts does not want to give the item up. Things take a dire turn, but then a hooded stranger enters the picture, knocking out the bad guys with...

Keoni Waxman directs from the writing by Richard Beattie and Michael Black. Steven Seagal stars as mob kingpin Mr. Alexander, an old-school boss who rules his criminal empire with both nobility and brutality. For a simple prison hit, he sends his best enforcer and protégé Roman Hurst (Foster). But when the hit goes wrong, Hurst is forced to pay the price of his “failure:” banishment in the city that he almost once ruled. But a war is brewing for the soul of the city between Alexander, a cold-blooded gangster known as ‘The Iceman” (Rhames), and a merciless Mexican cartel. Steven Seagal and Steve Austin star in the straight-to-video action flick, Maximum Conviction. Here are a few things Matt's found in it...
The conviction of newly released straight-to-video action movie fight-fest Maximum Conviction was never in doubt. The film is set in a prison, after all. But its maximumness? That’s raised a few questions. I’m in the question answering business, so I sat down to watch the film to see just how maximum it was. The answer is that it was surprisingly maximum. In fact, it was so maximum that I felt compelled to list the 10 most maximum things about it. Why 10? Because it’s the maximum the editors would allow me.
Maximum Steven
How many violent Stevens can one action film handle? I’ve always assumed the answer to be one, but Maximum Conviction brings us both ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ‘Stone Colder’ Steven Seagal.
