The missing poster shrine in the movie is based off a real life encounter a hiker had when passing through the woods in Long Island, New York. It turned out that the posters actually matched those of real missing persons cases and many believed this was the work of a serial killer. A full investigation was launched but it came to the conclusion that they were left behind from a Halloween party. The viral video of the hiker's footage can be seen online today.
