Every year, Shark Week comes to terrify fans and educate the masses on sharks and what to expect from them. Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive look at the upcoming slate of programming for this year's celebration. This year has a wide range of programming to get you excited. You'll still have your "pulse-pounding recreations of terrifying shark attacks," but this year, Discovery's Shark Week is going to also include some pretty unique things. The new programming starts each night at 8 Pm Et with fresh specials dropping each hour. If you missed them, don't worry, Encores begin at 11 Pm Et.
“Shark Week continues to evolve as a cultural phenomenon, blending adrenaline-fueled storytelling with cutting-edge science,” said Howard Lee, Chief Creative Officer of U.S. Networks and President of Discovery Networks. “But what truly sets it apart is the sheer joy and wonder our teams feel in bringing it to life.

When I was twenty-years-old I watched The Breed, a cheesy killer dog movie starring Michelle Rodriguez at the height of her popularity. By no stretch of the imagination was it a “good” movie, but nearly twenty years later I still remember it. It’s the type of mind-numbing popcorn flick that goes great with an extra cheese pizza and a cold refreshing beer. It’s not the type of movie that I’d ever imagined would get a sequel, especially not nearly two decades later. While A Breed Apart isn’t exactly a direct follow-up to its predecessor, it maintains the absurdity of the original while doubling down on the comedy.
The plot
A movie set is abandoned when the canine actors unexpectedly contract rabies and attack their animal handlers. The dogs are left to freely roam the island until several years later when a group of influencers are called...

One of Wes Craven's cult classics is getting a spiritual successor this summer in the form of A Breed Apart. Written and directed by The Furst Brothers, the survival horror comedy puts a new spin on 2006's The Breed, a film produced by the legendary Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream director that starred Michelle Rodriguez and followed a group of college kids on a "deserted" island where dogs were bred to kill. The new feature modernizes the concept, instead centering on a private island retreat where a group of social media influencers are confronted with man-eating beasts and forced into a deadly fight for survival that pits them against one another. We're excited to include the chilling survival flick as part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies and share a new image highlighting two of the stars who will be thrown to the hounds on...

Have you ever wondered how many cameos there were in the first two Sharknado films? Or who the sharks haunted in Ghost Shark? Maybe you’d like to discuss what the best scene is in Killer Klowns From Outer Space? Would you like to know just how big the spider is in Big Ass Spider? Did you recently ask a friend which Japanese dish starts killing people in a film from 2012? Would you like to know if zombies can be vegan? And what exactly is a Stonado?

Welcome to the latest edition of our (semi) regular crowdfunding feature here on Nerdly – Back This! – where we take a look at some of the cool content taking the crowdfunding route on sites such as Indiegogo, Greenlit and Kickstarter. In this edition, we’re spotlighting a new horror comedy, Marriage Bites, which features a cast of familiar genre-film favourites!
What’s the film about?
Marriage Bites is a …”one-of-a-kind film that seamlessly combines elements of horror, comedy, and social media theories [Indiewrap]”. The film, written by Ashley Hargrove who also stars in the film as Linda – one half of the married couple at the centre of the film which follows Martin and Linda (Hargrove) who, while rebuilding a stale marriage, face an unexpected challenge when Martin is bitten by a vampire, leading them to test various vampire theories and protect their town from the undead.

I thought the movie just slipped into obscurity, since I don’t think I’ve heard anyone reference it in the eighteen years since its release, but apparently it has gained enough of a cult following that it’s now getting the remake treatment. A couple weeks ago, we learned that Grace Caroline Currey of Fall is set to star in the film, and now Variety reports that Page Kennedy – who had to deal with man-eating sharks in The Meg and Meg 2: The Trench – has joined Currey in the cast of this killer dog redo.

Grace Caroline Currey takes on a new challenge in The Breed remake, showcasing her ability to lead a thrilling survival narrative. The Brothers Furst direct the film, aiming to elevate it beyond the lukewarm reception of the original through Currey's performance. The Breed remake could surprise viewers by tapping into the current trend of animal attack films, offering a fresh take on the horror genre.
Grace Caroline Currey, better known for 2022's hit Fall, will star in the upcoming Wes Craven remake film of The Breed. The film is described as "reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic."
The upcoming version of The Breed introduces a fresh take on the original's narrative, focused on Violet, portrayed by Currey. Violets quest to rescue abandoned dogs leads her to the ominous island setting of the original tale. Here, she encounters the deadly pack that turns her rescue mission into a desperate fight for survival,...

Shark movies are a dime a dozen, especially with schlock like Jersey Shore: Shark Attack, Sand Sharks, Ghost Shark, and so much more. But what happens when Tommy Wiseau, the visionary director of The Room, takes aim at the ocean’s most fearsome predator? Tommy Wiseau has released a new trailer for Big Shark, which is somehow the first movie he’s directed since the release of The Room twenty years ago.
The Big Shark trailer cuts back and forth between shots of New Orleans with two boxers fighting in a gym, all while the text reads, “You can Run. You can Hide. But that won’t save you. The world’s most vicious hunter has come to the bayou and only wants one thing… blood.” The film stars Tommy Wiseau as Patrick, Isaiah Laborde as Tim, and Greg Sestero as Georgie, three firefighters who must save New Orleans from a killer shark.

It’s probably not a good thing but any ridiculously titled film will not only get my attention but also get me watching the film. It’s why I end up watching all the Sharknado films or 3-Headed Shark Attack or Big Ass Spider and any other similarly-titled film. Luckily, I do usually enjoy these films, so it’s not a bad thing but there are plenty of very very poor movies in there too. So it was always going to be 50/50 with Sewer Gators.
It was almost immediately clear with Sewer Gators that this wasn’t only a low budget affair but very much an amateur production. It looks like that. There’s no hiding it with expensive cameras or anything like that. But,...

Opens with an oddly “fake” looking scene that feels like it was shot entirely on a green screen soundstage – which for all I know might be true, especially given the copious amounts of CGI featured in the film as a whole… Yes, we’re in CGI shark territory (combined with stock footage – how very The Asylum of this film) in this one folks!
The Requin, aka From Below, stars Alicia Silverstone [Sidebar; who would have thought we’d ever see Alicia Silverstone in a shark movie? Seriously?] as Jaelyn who, along with her husband Kyle (James Tupper) are on holiday in Vietnam following Jaelyn’s miscarriage. Of course, being a shark movie we know things aren’t going to go according to plan for the couple. Kyle gets injured whilst swimming, his blood pouring into the ocean waters like some sort of obvious foreshadowing, whilst Jaelyn has flashbacks to her miscarriage.

Who doesn’t love a good shark movie? Hell, who doesn’t love a bad shark movie?! There’s certainly a wide variety of shark movies available these days (and I think we’ve reviewed most of them here on Nerdly too), from ridiculous films like Ouija Shark, Ghost Shark and Virus Shark, to The Asylum’s Sharknado franchise and more mainstream fare such as 47 Metres Down, The Shallows and The Reef.
And it’s with the latter film that Great White feels most in common. Both films come from Australian filmmakers, both films feature a small group of people stranded at the beck and call of great whites… But then aren’t all shark film usually about a small group of people trapped by sharks?

Scs Entertainment has released the official trailer for Arachnado, an upcoming horror movie with a premise that's as bizarre as it sounds. Coming to VOD and DVD next month, the movie is directed by Dustin Ferguson the filmmaker behind such other bizarre horror titles as Los Angeles Shark Attack, Angry Asian Murder Hornets, and Ebola Rex. You would certainly expect for Arachnado to be just as insane with a title like that, and the trailer suggests that will certainly be the case. You can take a look at it below.
The cast of Arachnado includes Mel Novak (Bruce Lee's Game of Death), Deborah Dutch (Hard to Die), Brinke Stevens (Slumber Party Massacre), and Shawn C. Phillips (Ghost Shark). Other cast members include Sheri Davis (Angry Asian Murder Hornets), Jennifer Nangle (Malvolia: The Queen of Screams), Mike Ferguson (Death Squad), Cali June (Monster Force Zero), and Albie Robles (Stickman) as the voice of DJ Danny.

Even though you can watch movies about killer sharks on SyFy on pretty much any given weekend, they aren’t quite in the same echelon as those produced on a bigger budget such as The Meg – but I’ll concede that pictures like Ghost Shark and Zombie Shark serve as nice guilty pleasures.
Admittedly, I hadn’t gotten the chance to take in the flick starring Jason Statham until fairly recently, but I found myself being entertained by it. As pointed out above, this subgenre of sorts has seen quite the boom in the past few years, but focusing on a prehistoric shark of such great size provides for a simple, yet effective way to bring new scares. Given that, I’ll probably check out the sequel whenever it sees the light of day, which we can really only refer to as The Meg 2 for the time being.

Ever since Jaws caused moviegoers to be afraid of going back into the water in 1975, the concept of rampaging sharks has been a staple in the horror, thriller and science fiction genres, often blurring the lines between them. And while the topic of today’s discussion isn’t nearly as over the top as the likes of Sharknado, Sharktopus and Ghost Shark, it sure has been generating its share of online buzz as of late.

Disney has released a new poster and concept art illustration for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, to get fans ready for the new trailer debuting tomorrow. The poster offers a new look at the villainous Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), along with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush) and newcomers Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario) and Henry (Brenthon Thwaites). When it comes to films where sharks are at the forefront, there’s a pretty large spectrum in terms of the quality of products we’ve been given over the years. On one end, of course, is Jaws, the undisputed king of shark movies that set a precedent that none that have followed in its wake have ever cleared. Then, on the complete opposite end, you can find things like the Sharknado series, any number of Syfy Channel original movies with names like Ghost Shark and Sharktopus, and even Jaws: The Revenge.
Caught in between are films like Open Water, The Reef, and last year’s The Shallows, all projects that didn’t soar as high as Jaws, but thankfully never sank to the lowest depths of the worst types of shark movies. More than that, however, they managed to prove that there’s still some serious life left in...

A Syfy channel originjal movie from The Asylum (so its a low-budget double-header) which sees a team of expert scientists are studying the effects of climate change on marine life at a research station deep in the Arctic. By now you probably all know I have a soft spot for ridiculous shark movies, be they from Roger Corman, The Asylum, Syfy or anyone else… Which is why I always Have to subject myself to whatever treasures this disparate genre provide. Be it a Zombie Shark, Ghost Shark, Sharknado, Sharktopus, a 3-Head Shark, a Swamp Shark etc., etc…. whatever!?!

Also known as Shark Island, a more generic title that would undoubtedly failed to sell more copies than the films other more exploitative moniker, Zombie Shark; this film stars former Degrassi: The Next Generation actress Cassie Steele as Amber, a tough as nails bartender who goes on a trip to a quite coastal island with her sister and a few friends, and runs straight into an army of sharks intent on eating anything and everything that get in their way. Only these are no ordinary sharks, oh no…
You see the almost-deseted island Amber and her friends are partying on also happens to home to a once-abandoned army facility that now houses a scientist, Dr.

Northgate Pictures have released the official trailer (which is embedded below, along with the poster from SadistArt Designs and four still) from Easter Sunday, which stars the late Robert Z’Dar (Manaic Cop), who passed away earlier this year. The film will be dedicated in his memory.
A throwback to the campy and gory slashers of the ’80s, Easter Sunday is written and directed by Jeremy Todd Morehead. Along with Z’Dar and Morehead, the cast includes Ari Lehman (Friday the 13th), Edward X. Young (Mr. Hush) and Shawn C. Phillips (Ghost Shark).
It has been 24 years since the deranged serial killer Douglas Fisher was executed by police on Easter night. This year, a group of hard-partying teenagers not only raise some hell, but literally raise the dead! The teens accidentally conjure the spirit of Douglas Fisher… Aka the bunny masked killer! Mackenzie Rosman's open to a "7th Heaven" reboot! The actress chatted with us at the 3rd Annual Reality TV Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where not-so-little Ruthie Camden herself opened up about a possible "7th Heaven" reunion and former costar Jessica Biel's baby news! Check out the video above to see if she's met baby Silas Randall Timberlake! While the brunette beauty has continued to steal the small screen in shows like "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and the TV movie "Ghost Shark," the 25-year-old said she'd love to reunite with her WB costars. "Well I haven't heard anything about it, but if it happened it would definitely be something fun and interesting to do," Mackenzie told toofab's Candice Brock of a potential reunion special. No movie, TV show, or TV movie in recent memory has been more talked about than Syfy's 2013 masterpiece "Sharknado." And nowhere has the movie been more celebrated than the Internet, via Twitter, Facebook, and glorious, glorious GIFs. So many GIFs. GIFs that keep on giving.
So, in honor of the release of "Sharknado 2: The Second One" (premiering tonight, July 30, at 9 pm Et/Pt on Syfy) we're taking a walk down memory lane and counting down the best GIFs from the one that started it all, "Sharknado." You're welcome.
9. That one where you can see the entire sharknado and realize it looks a lot like the smoke monster from "Lost."
8. That one where you watch a guy fall from a helicopter into the mouth of a passing shark.
7. That one that made you wonder why sharks are the only thing from the ocean that got caught in the sharknado.

Get ready, kids! The "Sumnado of Sharknado" (as Syfy likes to call it) is officially upon us, and right now we have a quick Q&A with Sharknado 2: The Second One director Anthony C. Ferrante to help chum the waters of your anticipation.
Dread Central: Now, over half a year removed from the surprise pop culture quake Sharknado set off, what do you look back upon as being the best/worst aspects of it and the most surprising things to come out of it?
Anthony C. Ferrante: I’m still surprised that mainstream American embraced it. I remember watching the finished movie about three weeks before it aired. The movie is practically wall-to-wall VFX so this was the first time we saw everything completely together without missing slugs. <?i>
There were about three of us in the editing bay, and we were laughing with it and making fun of it.

The first trailer is here for the new horror film from John Schneider (yes, that John Schneider of "Dukes of Hazzard fame). Smothered has a cast filled with a handful of beloved horror icons, who are all apparently playing themselves in it. Check it out!
From the Press Release
When John R. Schneider wrote Smothered, he wrote a reverse of the classic horror film model. Instead of a bunch of college-aged girls getting slaughtered by men in masks, his film features men of the mask getting slaughtered by a beautiful young vixen.
And, in a turn that will leave horror fans titillated, the film features a list of horror icons playing “themselves” in this “horroromedy” (horror/comedy) film with more humanity than you’d expect from a film where almost everyone dies.
The film, which stars Kane Hodder (Jason X, Hatchet), Ra Milhailoff (Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects,...

It’s our two year anniversary which means two things: 1. the return of the Make You Watchathon, where Simon and Kate each assign the other required viewing they probably wouldn’t watch otherwise, and 2. it’s gonna be a long show. Thankfully, the week in TV was fairly streamlined, but we still talk through our regular shows and spotlight this week’s intense Breaking Bad, “Confessions”. Then it’s time for the Watchathon. This year, Kate assigned Simon The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, a little seen HBO series from 2008 and Simon assigned Kate both On Death Row, a 2012 four-episode documentary series about death row inmates by Werner Herzog and First Person, a documentary/interview series by Errol Morris from 2000. Thank you for hanging out with us over the past two years, and here’s to at least that many more!

It may have taken days — weeks, even — for your pulse to stop pounding after watching Sharknado, the Twitter-friendly weather documentary that featured Tara Reid as a pile of wet rags. The latest Syfy Original Movie, Ghost Shark, may not have had the Internet buzz of its Asylum-produced cousin leading up to its premiere last night, but I'm here to tell you that Ghost Shark is roughly 100,000 times better. If Sharknado (which aired last night as a lead-in to Ghost Shark) got anything wrong — I said if — it was that sea tornados full of sharks, while dangerous, require rampaging weather systems to cause any real trouble. Ghost Shark jumps over that hurdle by allowing its titular phantasm to show up anytime and anywhere there's moisture. Top that, strong winds.Anyway, Ghost Shark stars Ruthie from 7th Heaven (Mackenzie Rosman) and Bull from Night Court (Richard Moll) —...

A shark is attacked by a group of fisherman and before it dies it rests in a cursed cave where it's spirit is released to continue feeding on the residents of a sleepy summer town. Ava and Cicely's dad was the captain of that chartered boat and when he also turns up missing they investigate his disappearance. But soon Ghost Shark begins attacking the residents, turning up wherever there is water. How can it be stopped? Soon after the social-media phenomenon that was "Sharknado," it's doubtful there could be a better time for "Ghost Shark."
Syfy stays in the what-else-can-we-do-to-a-shark game with its latest original movie, debuting Thursday, Aug. 22. Indeed, the title creature is undead, having been killed by a fisherman ... and it returns to wreak vengeance, one of its targets being the father of a young woman played by "7th Heaven" alum Mackenzie Rosman.
She tries to stop the terror before she becomes a victim herself, getting assistance from a lighthouse keeper portrayed by Richard Moll, famous as bailiff Bull on the sitcom "Night Court."
Though Rosman was unaware of the countless Tweets that "Sharknado" prompted when Syfy first ran it last month, Moll knew about it and realized what it might do for his own shark movie.
"I choose to live without a television, so I miss all this great stuff," he tells Zap2it.

Ghost Shark is not writer-director Griff Furst's first Syfy rodeo. Arachnoquake, Swamp Shark and Lake Placid 3 all bear his name as director. (He's also acted in quite a few Syfy movies.) Ghost Shark, though, is the first that gives him writing credit, for the story of a town haunted by the bloodthirsty phantom of a great white (airing Thursday, Aug. 22 at 9/8c). TV Guide Magazine spoke to Furst about the mechanics of a ghost shark kill, how one comes by the title of "Syfy original movie director," and the specter of Sharknado.
