BBC One has announced new drama commissions from Lenny Henry and Steve Pemberton.

Danny And The Human Zoo is a one-off 90-minute drama written by Henry.

The script is described as a fictionalised memoir of the comic's life as a working-class teenager in 1970s Dudley.

"I've crammed the first two years of a very long career into 90 minutes - it's gonna rock," Henry said.

Mapp and Lucia is an adaptation of Ef Benson's novels, penned by Inside No 9 co-creator and star Pemberton.

The comic drama is comprised of three hour-long episodes and set in the summer of 1930, when Mrs Emmeline Lucas - known to her friends as Lucia - decides to take a holiday in the small English town of Tilling.

BBC One has also ordered five-part drama Doctor Foster from award-winning playwright Mike Bartlett, who previously scripted ITV drama The Town.

Exclusive: Luke Treadaway Lays Out The Plan In Clip From Heist Flick 'Wasteland'
The heist film is a genre that is practically as old as the cinematic medium itself, dating all the way back to the famed silent "The Great Train Robbery." And over the decades we've seen all manner of lowlives, thugs and hoods plot, plan and steal all manner of loot big and small (and you can check out the ones we love in our feature, Casing 'The Town': Our All-Time Favorite Heist Movies). Sometimes it's one last score before they disappear for good, and other times it's an act of simple revenge. But we'd wager that not many films find a gang embarking on a break-in so they can raise money for...a coffee shop. That's the idea behind "Wasteland," the British heist film from director Rowan Athale. Starring Luke Treadaway, Iwan Rheon, Timothy Spall, Neil Maskell, Matthew Lewis, Vanessa Kirby and Gerard Kearns, the story follows young Harvey,...

ITV Drama The Town Finale Review
The Town. co. ITV

B Van Heusen

There was a time when mayors were well respected pillars of British society but in a world where tipsy toffs are elevated to the highest mayoral heights it’s no surprise to see one of these chain wearing bureaucrats revealed as good old fashioned TV villain. It always seemed likely that the mayor (Martin Clunes) was somehow involved in the double suicide that rocked The Town at the beginning of episode one. Granted, he had an excuse of sorts for committing the crime although vigilante justice isn’t typically the best way to settle a score. Oh well, at least he had the decency to turn himself in as the final credits rolled.

Clunes was reasonably strong as the pompous villain of the piece although Andrew Scott was the undisputed star of the show. The sub plots involving Mark’s (Scott) ex-girlfriend and...

The Town Episode Two Review
The Town co. ITV

N Conrad

In episode two of ITV’s The Town, Mark Nicholas (Andrew Scott) made the ghoulish decision to go and work at his late mother’s office. After snooping around her work space, he eventually got his hands on her personal items. Much to his chagrin, these included some photos of his mother canoodling with the police officer who was tasked with investigating her death.

Nicholas never would have found out about the affair if a meddlesome councilor hadn’t defied the Mayor (Martin Clunes) and saved the offending photos from the dumpster. We’re now left wondering whether the double suicide was what it appeared to be and if the police and the mayor’s office knew more about the incident then they cared to admit.

While the double suicide is the main focus of the story line, the characters are as captivating as...
