Fans of the biblical series House of David, behold, as the tale continues in a newly greenlit second season. Deadline is now reporting that the show, which is a reimagining of the David & Goliath tale, is going to return at Prime Video. The series drew a big number with 22 million viewers in its first 17 days and has become one of the streamer’s Top 10 new series debuts in the U.S. to date. New episodes of this premiere season are still being released weekly, leading up to the year’s finale on April 3.

Today, Prime Video announced the premiere date for the upcoming biblical drama series, House of David, and revealed eight first-look images. House of David comes from visionary filmmakers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn (Ordinary Angels).

The series will premiere on February 27, 2025, on Prime Video with three episodes and one episode weekly thereafter in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The series stars Michael Iskander as David, who was cast following a four-month international search and is fresh off his role in the Tony Award-winning musical, Kimberly Akimbo.

House of David also stars Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, Saul’s trusted wife, Stephen Lang as Samuel, and Martyn Ford as Goliath.

Anya Taylor-Joy is set to star in and executive produce the limited series “Lucky” at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.

The series is based on the Marissa Stapley novel of the same name. The book was a New York Times bestseller and a selection for Reese Witherspoon’s Reese’s Book Club.

The official logline states that Taylor-Joy “stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”

Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas are adapting the book for the screen and will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Tropper executive produces under his overall deal with Apple. As I was kindly reminded by one of the commenters on my review of The Tyrant, the 4-part series is part of The Witch universe. While I went into the series completely blind, I’ve since figured out the dots that connect the show to the film, though it isn’t as deep as it might seem. Tanner Adell, Tiera Kennedy, Reyna Roberts and Brittney Spencer all took to the stage to present an award together.

The four country music artists are all featured on Beyoncé‘s cover of “Blackbiird” on her latest album Cowboy Carter.

On Friday, Beyoncé released her album Cowboy Carter, which features a modern reimagining of Dolly Parton’s classic “Jolene” and an interlude from Miss Parton herself. Queen Bey’s new version serves as a continuation to Lemonade‘s “Sorry,” just with a renaming for the infamous “Becky with the good hair.”

Track nine hears an introduction to the song by Dolly. “You know that hussy with the good hair you sing about?” she asks. “Reminded me of someone I knew back when, except she has flaming locks of auburn hair.

Netflix has ordered the limited series “The Beast in Me” with Claire Danes set to star, Variety has learned.

The series hails from writer Gabe Rotter, with Howard Gordon attached to serve as showrunner. The series reunites Gordon and Danes, as they previously worked together on the hit Showtime series “Homeland.” Danes starred in the series, which Gordon co-created and executive produced.

The official logline for “The Beast in Me” states, “Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. Exclusive: Artist International Group has signed Swedish actor, screenwriter and producer Alexander Karim for management.

Most recently, Karim was seen starring in Frank Doelger’s eco-thriller limited series The Swarm, an eight-parter considered one of Europe’s biggest TV drama swings in some time, at a reported budget of €40 million. Making a splash when it premiered on Zdf in Germany last year, the show’s home in the U.S. is The CW.

Previously starring in three seasons of FX’s political drama Tyrant, Karim also played the lead in The Lawyer, which was Sweden’s most-watched series of 2019. Other recent TV credits include Viaplay’s The Box, a supernatural character-driven anthology series which had him starring opposite Anna Friel and Peter Stormare, and Amazon’s The Wheel of Time.

Judas Priest continue to unveil tracks from their forthcoming album Invincible Shield ahead of its March 8th release date.

“The Serpent and the King” is the fourth single from the LP so far, and it’s another scalding ripper from the British metal legends.

Rob Halford’s falsetto vocals are front and center — yep, he can still hit that vaunted Painkiller register — and the guitar tone sounds like it’s scratching the speakers from the inside. Under the hood, the guitar work and riff arrangements are densely composed — enough for both thrash and prog heads to feast on.

Regarding the album’s musical direction, guitarist Richie Faulkner told Audio Ink Radio that Invincible Shield “is progressive in the sense that it’s not like verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-chorus-finish,” likening it to Priest’s ’70s output.

Disney+ has unveiled a slate of Korean originals, as the streaming platform opts for a more targeted strategy in Asia.

Bolstered by successful Korean tentpoles last year like Moving and Big Bet, the streamer has ordered seven new titles to premiere in 2024, in addition to previously-announced shows including Light Shop, from Moving creator Kangfull, and Uncle Samsik, starring Parasite actor Song Kang-ho.

One of the biggest titles in the Disney+ announcement is Blood Free, which stars Ju Jihoon (Kingdom) and Han Hyojoo (Moving). It follows a former bodyguard haunted by the failures of his past. After following several leads, he finds himself recruited to protect the CEO of a controversial lab-grown meat company, who is also a survivor of the fateful attack that changed his life.

Unmasked stars Kim Hyesoo and is set in modern-day Seoul. The series follows a team of investigative journalists who are fighting for their careers after broadcasting a controversial story.

Disney+ is steadily boosting its output of high-end Korean drama. The streaming service on Monday revealed a growing slate of star-driven Korean originals for 2024, building on the momentum achieved last year with the critical and commercial popularity of hit shows like Moving and Big Bet.

Newly announced titles joining the company’s Korean slate include thriller Blood Free, mystery series Unmasked, actioner The Tyrant, crime drama Gangnam B-Side, and a season three renewal of reality show The Zone: Survival Mission. These series add to Disney’s previously announced 2024 tentpole shows Lightshop, created by hit-making webtoon creator turned screenwriter Kang Full, and period drama Uncle Samsik, starring Korean film icon Song Kang-ho (Parasite) in a rare TV series role. Judas Priest are getting closer to the release of their Invincible Shield album, out on March 8th. Now, the legendary metal band has released the LP’s latest single, “Crown of Horns.”

The track falls on the melodic side of Priest’s musical spectrum, but still features a blistering guitar solo. The song marks the third single off Invincible Shield, following the previously released “Panic Attack” and “Trial by Fire.”

Judas Priest will take the new tracks on the road this year for a worldwide tour, including a headlining US run in April and May (pick up tickets here).

Hollywood likes to pretend that it’s in a constant state of self-improvement, and that the days of blackface and Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi are far in the past. But we aren’t that far removed from Zoe Saldaña playing Nina Simone, FX casting a white British actor as a budding Middle Eastern despot in Tyrant or Catherine Zeta-Jones playing notorious Colombian drug kingpin Griselda Blanco in Lifetime’s Cocaine Godmother.

I hope we can all agree that whatever divine and legal sanctions she deserved for being, by all accounts, quite monstrous at times, Griselda Blanco did not deserve the throughly bizarro accent and makeup job that accompanied Zeta-Jones’ performance in Cocaine Godmother.

If nothing else, Netflix’s six-part Griselda is an adequate representational corrective. Colombian actress Sofía Vergara plays Blanco, with a latex job that doesn’t really make her look like Griselda Blanco, but definitely makes her look like “Not Sofía Vergara.

The manhwa features a love story between the perfectionist boss Lee Young-joon and his secretary, Kim Mi-so, who quits after nine years.

Although this romantic comedy isn't the newest manhwa on the block, it is one of the most popular and a strong example of unusual boss-and-employee relationships. A lot of manhwa are cut from the same cloth, and those who have binged What's Wrong with Secretary Kim? have plenty of options when it comes to comparable reading material.
