It’s been a great few years for horror, and that’s in large part thanks to films like Insidious, which took traditional haunted-house concepts and added a fresh twist to the proceedings. After two excellent installments in that series, with a third scheduled for 2015, it’s clear that screenwriter Leigh Whannel isn’t opposed to continuing the franchise, despite the apparent departure of stars Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson in Insidious: Chapter 2.
In an interview with Crave Online, super-producer Jason Blum revealed that, even after big-screen sequels to Insidious have run their course, the series may not necessarily be over. Talking about the possibility of a TV spin-off focusing on paranormal investigators Specs (Whannel) and Tucker (Angus Sampson), along with the ghost of Elise (Lin Shaye), Blum revealed:
I’d like to do that. I don’t think you can do that while we’re still making movies.

Horror master Jason Blum, producer of the Paranormal Activity and Insidious franchises, continued to build his reality TV portfolio by partnering with unscripted series veteran Mike Darnell on a haunted house reality show for ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blum and Darnell sold the series to recently appointed ABC unscripted head Lisa Berger. Other than its basic description as a reality show about haunted houses, other details about the series remained under wraps. Blum produced found-footage series The River, which ran for 12 episodes in 2012, and Stranded, a reality series from early 2013.

Chicago – With his production company, Blumhouse, Jason Blum might be the most important voice in modern horror. As studio horror films became glutted with remakes and sequels in the ’00s, Blum changed the model with low-budget, high-profit films like “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious.” His latest, “The Purge,” starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, opens on Friday, June 7, 2013. He’s a fascinating guy with a lot to say about not just his chosen genre but filmmaking and how we watch movies in general. It’s all changing and Jason Blum is out in front.

Jason Blum: Ethan is my best friend. So definitely involved there. To answer your question in a roundabout way: All we do is low budget movies. Our goal when...

From Jason Blum (Insidious, Sinister) and Josh Gates (Destination Truth), Stranded is the new Syfy reality series that uses the same stripped-down first-person method from Paranormal Activity to document an unconventional and terrifying paranormal and psychological experiment, in which participants are stranded at haunted location for a week and must record the entire experience themselves. Each of the six hour-long episodes features the self-recorded footage of a group of everyday paranormal enthusiasts, combined with strategically-placed security cameras at each location. During this recent exclusive phone interview with Collider, executive producer Jason Blum talked about how Stranded came about and why he thought it was a great fit for what he’d already done on the narrative side, the process of selecting the individuals and locations for the show, how he got some fun ideas for future movies while they were scouting possible haunted locations, and where his love for genre and horror started.
