Yes, it starts off a bit confusing, as the plot is quite complex. That pays off afterwards thought. It's a German conspiracy thriller with good twists and you sitting on the TV trying to figure out, who is responsible. Even after a few episodes, it's hard to understand what happened. For me personally, that's what gives a good thriller the suspense. For some people it might be confusing, as you have to be awake and concentrated at times. I liked this show.
The acting is really good, especially Peri Baumeister, who acts as the wife of ex-cop Atlas and himself, Max Riemelt, do a great job here.
I'd reccomend the series to everyone, who likes Scandi-Noir-TV!

The main character and some of the other characters were great. Their acting was good and their storyline was alright.
But sadly Jule and Tom totally ruined the series. They were bland and their acting was off. Their storyline was also really bad, totally unnecessary, nothing happened really.
Honestly didn't even understand if you were actually supposed to like them through the whole series. They were totally unlikeable, it doesn't match up at all since all the other characters somehow had something that was worth watching.
Ended up skipping several scenes with them simply because they were too boring. :(
The end of the series was sadly not good in my opinion.
It's sad since the rest of the series was alright, really wish the series would've focused more on the main characters, his story and the people that were close to him.
PS. Tom and Jule looked like siblings which also made it weird.

Schlafende Hunde is a very well made German crime drama about a traumatized former police officer in search for what has caused his trauma. His story unfolds after the suicide of an innocent prisoner, for who's conviction he was largely responsible.
The story is original and told very well in six episodes. Every episode reveals a little more of the final plot. Build-up, scenario acting and dialogues are just fine. This series shows an intelligent combination of psychological drama, conspiracy and an atmosphere in which there's hardly any clarity as to who can be trusted.
A bit of a slow burner but just right. Definitely recommended.

In english, it's sleeping dog, but in german, it's schlafende hunde. A six episode arc, with two directors and three writers. According to imdb, this is a remake of the israeli series exchange principle, which had three chapters. Atlas, a former cop, is living on the streets. But has not given up trying to solve an old cold case. He breaks into offices after hours, and tries to stay under the radar. Andergast, the public prosecutor, also wants to reopen the case, but for very different reasons. Lots of mysteries and questions. Witnesses that won't come forward, for various reasons. Some are getting knocked off. They seem to be up against powerful families that stick together, and will do anything to succeed. Both atlas and andergast have people helping them and people working against them. Lots of suspense and drama. Mostly good stuff! Although one of the cops held up evidence, a hand gun, while wearing gloves. But he held the gun right where the suspect's fingerprints would be !! Bad cop.

German series
'Schlafende Hunde'
aka 'Sleeping Dog'
It's based on Israeli series.
It's a slow burn crime thriller.
Start was confusing, Viewers get confused just like main character.
There are many characters and everyone has backstories, Which are sometimes unnecessary and doesn't add-up anything to main plot, it's just for filler.
Main plot is okay.
It has some typical tropes.
Suspended cop with Amnesia, portrayed as bad dad and bad husband, has messed up personal life, looking for redemption and trying to remember things.
They add-up some german tropes like LGBTQ, Racism, Nazi angle and social commentary on that.
Cinematography is good. Decent acting.
I would say, it's a decent one time watch.
Available on Netflix.
