They say I did something bad -- then why's it feel so good?
That line leads the chorus to “I Did Something Bad” off of Taylor Swift’s Reputation album, an endlessly listenable 15-song affair that careens back and forth between diary entries about dreamy Joe Alwyn to burn book-like drags of her enemies -- from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to Katy Perry, to her exes, and even herself for good measure.
For someone dogged for most of her career with accusations of playing the victim, Taylor spent a fair amount of 2017 exploring her dark side, and in particular seeming to embrace those snake emojis that slithered their way into her narrative after Kim’s infamous Snapchat story and killed “Old Taylor” once and for all.
With that in mind, here’s a list (in red, underlined) of six of Taylor’s shadiest moments of the year.
Check it once, check it twice… Ok...

Can't you just picture the inscription on a certain mighty Martian marine's tombstone?
"Here lies Badass Bobbie Draper. She was always spoiling for a fight. If she'd only heeded the age-old Earth adage: 'Be careful what you wish for, because you mIght get it," she might've lived a little longer.
No amount of mixed-martial arts or combat training looks enough to save Bobbie — lying wounded on Ganymede's surface with a cracked helmet — from whatever the hell that sentient being is, standing above her and looking seriously pissed off.
Bobbie Draper's apparent demise, along with the deaths of her comrades in her unit and aboard the Martian military ship, the Scirroco, was one of several threads featured on The Expanse Season 2 Episode 6.
There were so many, in fact, this may have been the series' most ambitious, if not stellar, hour. It went down like an overstuffed burger with everything on it — tantalizingly juicy and delicious looking,...

If art does in fact imitate life, then Beyoncé's newest work just did one heck of a good impression. The singer set the internet ablaze on Saturday night with the debut of her new visual album Lemonade, an hour-long hybrid of music, visuals and spoken word, which debuted on HBO, immediately before she dropped the new album on Tidal. But with real life footage from events throughout her life, along with ample references to her parents' broken marriage and presumably the state of her own relationship with husband of eight years Jay Z, it's the content of Beyoncé's...

This review contains spoilers.
1.7 The King Of I
In some ways, episodes six and seven of this season could be regarded as a connected pair. Both episodes worked as an extended examination of Richie’s emotional travails and both of them used a particular narrative device to do so. In last week’s episode, the twist was that, in thinking that Ernst really was accompanying him, Richie knew less than the audience (assuming that, in this post Fight Club/Sixth Sense cultural environment, you all saw the reveal coming). This week, it’s Richie who knows more about his Las Vegas adventure and the viewer who has to be clued in after the fact. It was a subtle way of suggesting that Richie is back in control,...

Paul Newman was one of the titans of 20th century film. He won huge acclaim in a series of Hollywood classics. But acting was only part of his story - he was also a devoted husband and father, a political activist and a philanthropist
Alistair Cooke, a very shrewd film critic, once wrote of 'stage acting as a form of sculpture and film acting as a performance with the face only - the best film actors do best with the eyes only'. He was writing about Edward G Robinson, Henry Fonda, Jean Gabin and Spencer Tracy. But Paul Newman, who has died at his home in Connecticut aged 83, belongs in that illustrious company.
Although a number of his finest pictures were in black and white (The Hustler, for example, perhaps his best film), what comes most immediately to mind when we think of him are those deep blue eyes that variously sparkle,...
