Ken Marino's career as an actor, writer, and director has been largely defined by two things: comedy and collaboration. After establishing himself via the MTV sketch comedy series "The State" with the comedy troupe of the same name (comprised of his closest friends and creative confidants), he went on to work on some of the funniest, most brilliant, and underrated TV and film projects to come out of Hollywood in the last two decades.
Much of his work is the result either of his own creative will or that of his former troupe-mates, the group having spread through the industry to wreak hilarious havoc. They often explore absurd angles on popular genres such as medical dramas and reality dating shows. At the same time, he's a familiar face on a smorgasbord of network sitcoms, as well as a few audacious dramedies you'll certainly want to add to your watch list.

The Simpsons' recent seasons have improved considerably, winning over both critics and fans, making it one of the stronger animated adult comedies on television. The fact that new shows, even with notable talents like Dan Harmon, are struggling to gain hype emphasizes The Simpsons' impressive comeback. Despite its age, The Simpsons' formula continues to work, allowing it to outperform newer shows and earn more acclaim than even Dan Harmon's new series.
While The Simpsons season 35 might not be as good as the show’s best outings, the creator of Rick and Morty’s new animated Fox sitcom shows just how good the series still is today. It was no major surprise when The Simpsons seasons 30 through 33 struggled with critics and fans alike. The show’s so-called Golden Age ended around season 11, a full 20 years before season 32 began. The Simpsons paved the way for much of the modern adult animation landscape but,...

Justin Roiland was let go from Rick and Morty as felony charges against the voice actor and co-creator became public earlier this year. Rick and Morty will go on, but Adult Swim will no longer associate itself with Roiland. He was charged with one count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, or deceit in Orange County. The incident occurred in 2020 with an unnamed Jane Doe that Roiland was dating. He pleaded not guilty and was released from his charges in March 2023, but by then, the damage was done.
Adult Swim had cut ties with Roiland, as had networks such as Hulu, which produces Roiland's animated sci-fi series Solar Opposites. As a result of Roiland no longer being in the picture, Rick and Morty underwent quite a few changes, especially given that Roiland voiced both Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, as...

While he is known for playing charming nerd Wyatt Donnelly in the 1985 film Weird Science, Ilan Mitchell-Smith's career has taken a compelling turn. He began acting when he was a child, appearing as younger siblings or pre-teens who wish that they were cooler. After playing a young version of Timothy Hutton's character, Daniel Isaacson, in a flashback in the spy drama Daniel, he appeared in the 1984 TV movie How to Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days as dorky Milo Crimpley, who takes a course on achieving flawlessness. Mitchell-Smith then played Eric Stoltz's Vietnam War-obsessed brother in The Wild Life, a teen comedy written by Cameron Crowe.
Wyatt is one of the most lovable characters in John Hughes's movies, and the story of him and his best friend Gary Wallace (Anthony Michael Hall) making a computer-generated woman named Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) is a classic coming-of-age tale.

Where to Watch ‘Saturday Morning All Star Hits!’: Netflix
Even a minute longer, and “Saturday Morning All Star Hits!” probably wouldn’t work. With a handful of weekend cartoon parodies, fake commercials/trailers, and a wacky brother hijinks framing device, taking on any more than a half-hour at a time would be a recipe for this Netflix show to overstay its welcome.
Improbably, though, it doesn’t. Never spending more than a few minutes in any of these worlds, “Saturday Morning All Star Hits!” (take the first letters of each name in that title if you want a totally tubular surprise) recaptures the vibe of Saturday morning favorites in all their camcorder-chic glory.
The show is the combined brainchild of the live-action “Brigsby Bear” duo Kyle Mooney and Dave McCary and the animation stylings of Ben Jones, a vet of “Axe Cop” and “Neo Yokio.

Humbly listed at the bottom of recent press release, Hulu revealed a rather startling viewership statistic. In the last year, more than half of Hulu subscribers had watched at least one of its adult animated programs. Further still, nearly 40 percent watch some form of adult animation every month. Based on reported figures, that’s roughly 12 million people regularly seeking out Hulu’s acquired and original animated series.
It’s no wonder the Disney-controlled streamer has invested in making more of its own animated programs, including “Solar Opposites” (the main focus of the press release), which became the No. 1 title on Hulu (animated or otherwise) during its premiere week in May. There’s a growing demand for adult animated content, and Hulu is in a prime position to capitalize. Why? Deborah Ann Woll doesn't just play the most down-to-earth character on "Daredevil" -- she's a bona fide genre-loving fangirl in real life too.
As sweet-natured Karen Page, the office assistant at the rising law firm of Nelson & Murdock, Woll gets to act out a different breed of heroics. Rather than swinging down to rain punches onto back-alley bad guys, Karen is a normal, grounded woman who knows injustice when she sees it. She's frequently fighting through her biggest fears to see that the right thing gets done, and things are finally heating up romantically between her and her not-exactly-blind colleague Matt Murdock, who's secretly cleaning up the streets as Daredevil.
Off-screen, Woll -- previously best known for her breakout stint as the "baby vamp" Jessica Hamby on HBO's "True Blood" -– connects with the Marvel/Netflix series' passionate fanbase on a personal level. She's a gamer, cosplayer, and deeply devoted...

Spoofing police procedurals is one thing. Eviscerating them — as the new TBS comedy "Angie Tribeca" does with addictive glee — is another. Shows like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Axe Cop" and even more vicious parodies like "Reno 911" utilize absurd humor to make light of jobs often depicted with the utmost seriousness in TV and movies, but we haven't seen a live action cop comedy as delightfully cartoonish as Steve Carell and Nancy Walls Carell's creation since "Police Squad" went one and done back in 1982. Since then, cop dramas have kept stacking up, making more and more scenarios, lines and characters into cliches — and thus ripe for parody. Rashida Jones and her merry men tackle each and every one of those cliches with such casual acceptance that it would be easy to mistake "Angie Tribeca" as simple. After all, it's only slightly serialized (by today's standards) and extremely consistent in style, tone and presentation.

Lisa Kudrow in The Comeback, which she announced will be returning for a third season.
John Singleton is poised to be the next filmmaker to make the leap to television, as FX has picked up the pilot for Snowfall, a show co-created by Singleton. The press release had this summary of the series.
Los Angeles 1981. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. Snowfall is a one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow.
Singleton will also direct the pilot.

The last few years, some network TV executives have tried to do away with the pilot process, ordering shows straight to series based on a script, or even an idea, rather than spending a lot of money filming a pilot episode before deciding whether it's good enough to order to series. This is essentially like deciding to build a house on land that hasn't been surveyed yet and hoping that it'll hold the structure. The results have gone about as expected: "Hieroglyph"(!) was pre-canceled before a second episode was filmed, NBC decided to sell "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" to Netflix rather than have to cancel it after three episodes aired, and other straight-to-series orders have been delayed, or similarly pre-canceled, or (as in the case of Fox's "Weird Loners") sent off to die quietly. Netflix has had more success doing away with pilots, but that's in part because no one but...

If you’ve got a TV, you’ve been there. You’re sitting in front of the TV, flipping through channels, and you discover that there’s nothing on. It doesn’t matter of you have three channels or three hundred channels. There’s absolutely nothing that you have any desire to watch on any channel currently in the roster.
It seems like during certain times of the day, you’d better just be prepared to watch either “Friends” or “Seinfeld” because that’s all anyone is running. Even worse, it’s the same rotation of about fifteen episodes of each show, so you will never, ever see any episode that you may have missed without just buying either season sets or the complete series.

I talked with Nick Offerman earlier this week and got the answer to the question I'm sure you're all wondering: A ukelele. What? You weren't clamoring for details on the latest carpentry projects from Hollywood's endlessly busy Renaissance Man? Personally, I'm always interested in Offerman's woodworking, because I know the value he puts in maintaining that pursuit and skill -- it's not just a hobby -- while following a schedule that would exhaust a lesser man. On Offerman's recent/current slate: He's completing work on the final season of "Parks and Recreation." He's touring the country with his one-man humor/lifestyle spectacle "Full Bush." He directed the marvelous and star-studded video for Tweedy's "Low Key." He's apparently co-producing a documentary about writer Wendell Berry. He appeared in the summer blockbuster "22 Jump Street" and probably has another half-dozen movies coming out soon. And this Sunday night (October 5), Offerman can be heard...

It's Marvel TV time at Comic-Con, with an hour-long panel that promises to feature Jeph Loeb plus still-unnamed castmembers from both "Marvel's Agents of Shield" and "Marvel's Agent Carter." The question is, will Marvel stop with just the two ABC dramas, or will they start trying to build excitement for the four upcoming Netflix series by, say, bringing in "Daredevil" stars Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll for surprise appearances? (Woll has a long and impressive history of Comic-Con cosplay, including stints as Hit Girl and Axe Cop, so I wouldn't be shocked in the least if she came dressed as Elektra — or Daredevil, for that matter.) And will Loeb be as bombastic as in his usual interviews, or will he acknowledge how rough so much of "Agents of Shield" season 1 was before "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" finally gave the show direction? I'll be live-blogging all the action, updating...

Teen Wolf's excellent visuals continue to shine in season four. Here's Ron's review of The Benefactor...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
4.4 The Benefactor
I was very hesitant about the new additions to Teen Wolf's regular cast. They seemed a bit too young, truthfully. Late teens playing teenagers is one thing, even 23-year-old high school students can pass - though there are some background extras who look like they should be teaching rather than attending classes - but there's something that comes along with teenagers playing kids their age that's a little... not unnerving, per se, but worrying. I'm not sure why, because the new additions seem like they're going to be just as good as the previous cast members.
Scott, despite himself, has a new progeny. To save the life of Liam (Dylan Sprayberry), he had to sink his teeth into him, quite literally. The full moon is approaching.

Axe Cop American Choppers #2 starts off with Axe Cop and Co. Fighting off an army of evil anthropomorphic axes. The evil Axes are the work of three Demon Lumberjacks working for satan. Satan not feeling up to killing God, has decided instead to kill Axe Cop to “tick God off”. The character from issue #1 who’s power is to shoot hypno-chickens out of his brain when he closes his eyes makes a return appearance, this time on behalf of God. This is really just Par for the course with Axe Cop.

Axe Cop The American Choppers #1
Story by Malachai Nicolle

Cover by Ethan Nicolle
Publisher Dark Horse Comics
Axe Cop is back and caught in a whirlwind of lunacy as per usual.
For those readers not familiar with Axe Cop, here’s a little back story. The artist Ethan Nicolle started Axe Cop as a web-comic based on his then five year old brother Malachai’s imaginative creations. Axe Cop’s popularity grew as it spawned toys, t-shirts, an expansion to the popular card game Munchkin, and even an animated show on Fox.
The American Choppers is the latest Axe Cop adventure, and though there is a very loose continuity in the Axe Cop universe one need not have read any previous adventures to enjoy American Choppers.

As someone with a major soft spot for Funko products, their booth at Toy Fair 2014 was a standout. The company came with dozens of brand new items including The Walking Dead and Guardians of the Galaxy bobble heads, and Pop! collections for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ghostbusters, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and more. Mattel showed off new Hot Wheels and Frozen products while Mezco Toyz previewed brand new pieces for Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad including a variety of six-inch Walter Whites (Bryan Cranston), a replication of the infamous pink teddy bear, and Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and Clay (Ron Perlman) figurines. Underground Toys had a huge assortment of Doctor Who products while Cryptozoic Entertainment put some of their new trading card series on display. We even caught the Khaleesi trying to sell some dragon eggs (or rather, paperweights) on the convention center floor. We also got a...

Patton Oswalt is a man of many talents: stand-up comedian, sitcom star, should-have-been Oscar nominee and Twitter god. There are plenty more impressive attributes attached to the former "King of Queens" regular, and 2013 saw many of them on full display. Oswalt appeared in virtually every television show on the air. In addition to his regular slots on Adult Swim's "The Heart She Holler," FX's new animated show "Axe Cop," and narrating every episode of ABC's "The Goldbergs," Oswalt stole episodes as a guest star in the likes of comedies "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "Portlandia" and, quite memorably, "Parks and Recreation." Oswalt also held his own in the dramatic realm, continuing to prove the accolades he received for "Big Fan" and "Young Adult" were no flukes. He proudly co-starred in Ben Stiller's ambitious interpretation of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" as an overly involved service representative and made an impressive...

Over for another year, this weekend’s Thought Bubble was the biggest in its short history, and it definitely felt it. While I didn’t attend every panel or get every signature that I wanted to, my days were still jam-packed with awkward fan-worship of idolised writers, wonderful small press discoveries and comfortable reprieves in the plush Bury Theatre in which writers and artists waxed lyrical about their work and industry.
On arriving at New Dock, I and a couple of friends navigated the main hall as best we could, but the first morning of Thought Bubble is always (in my experience) the busiest, and I may have slightly regretted packing my decade-old, ramshackle rucksack to the brim with quite as many comics and trades as it made me something of an obstacle to all beside and behind, especially when we stopped to gawk at a table’s wares.

Nick Offerman auditioned for the role of Wolverine.
The Parks and Recreation star revealed that he read for the role in Bryan Singer's original 2000 X-Men film.
The actor has since gone on to voice the titular character in the animated Axe Cop comic book adaptations.
"You know actually, I auditioned for Wolverine when Bryan Singer made the first X-Men movie," Offerman told Newsarama.
"I went on tape reading for that role. I always felt when I was younger, I could have taken a good crack at Wolverine.
"These days, I love the lead character of The Boys - I'm blanking on the name - Butcher! That's it."
The role of Wolverine went to Hugh Jackman, who will celebrate his eighth appearance as the character in Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Offerman will be guest-starring in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.

Nick Offerman continues to redefine his status as a 21st century Renaissance man. The Parks & Recreation star, who just published the book Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man's Fundamentals for Delicious Living, moonlights as a woodworker, stage actor, touring comedian and, most recently, the voice of a cartoon written by an 8-year-old boy. Axe Cop returns to Fox's Animation Domination High-Def lineup on Nov. 2 after debuting this summer, and the latest batch of episodes should satisfy fans of Offerman's distinctive cadence who've been left out in the cold by Parks & Recreation's unexpected hiatus. "I recorded an episode of 'The Simpsons,'” the “We’re the Millers” star said to the A.V. Club today (October 10). “And that was such an incredible life dream for me that I had kind of lost sight of."
“For a couple of decades, I've been ape-s**t about that show, and I thought, 'It would be so amazing to be on that show, but that could never possibly happen,'” he added. “And today it happened, and I was incredibly on cloud nine."
He finished the interview saying, “I called Mike Schur, and I said, 'Once again, I have to thank you. Without your generosity and tenacity in casting me in this job, this would not have happened.

Ken Marino is one of those actors that you may not know you know until you see his face. By now, though, his name should suffice. Marino has popped up in a number of popular television shows like "Veronica Mars," "Dawson's Creek," and "Children's Hospital," as well as writing and co-starring in "Role Models" and "Wanderlust." Many remember him fondly as the sexually forlorn Victor Kulak from "Wet Hot American Summer" or the desperate-to-please lead caterer Ron Donald on "Party Down." More recently, he’s earned acclaim as Mark Orlando on the web series turned Emmy-nominated E! program, "Burning Love."In addition to the animated series "Axe Cop" and the upcoming "Veronica Mars" movie, Marino stars in what will certainly be another memorable role for everyone who sees it. "Bad Milo!" begins as a movie about Duncan (Marino), a man with severe stomach problems related to stress. His boss (Patrick Warburton...

Exclusive: Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser, executive producers of Fox’s Animation Domination HD series Axe Cop, are expanding their relationship with the network on the live-action side. Fox has given a put pilot commitment to an untitled multi-camera comedy written and executive produced by Silverstein and Jeser and produced by 20th TV. Loosely based on Silverstein and Jeser’s shared childhood experiences, the project centers around brothers from a multi-racial family who, when reunited in their hometown as adults, quickly find that their past as troublemakers (and occasionally a**holes) is about to finally catch up with them. Silverstein and Jeser both grew up in New Jersey and met in high school. They landed their first gig in 1998, writing and producing segments for Comedy Central’s The Man Show. The two went on to create the network’s animated comedy Drawn Together and also have worked on 3rd Rock From The Sun,...

Fox has ordered six additional 15 minute episodes of both Axe Cop and High School USA!, bringing their season totals to 12 installments each. They currently air late on Saturday nights.
At the TCA Summer Press Tour, Nick Weidenfeld (Fox's head of Animation Domination HD) told The Futon Critic, "I thought to roll out 12 gives us a little more of an anchor... It's also way better for production because we can get invested in those shows... The best part of this process from a production standpoint is that if things start to feel like they're gaining traction while you're making them, you can continue. It's very flexible because all the talent is in-house."
Golan the Insatiable and Lucas Bros. Moving Co. will be joining the Animation Domination HD block in January. Two more new animated shows will premiere next April. Their details will be...

If making an animated series was easy, a child could do it.
Actually, one is involved in the process now ... but that still doesn't mean it's simple, especially if several different shows are combined. That's the approach of "Animation Domination High-Def," a late-night franchise Fox debuts Saturday, July 27. Two of the 15-minute programs will be ready for starters, and Fox will give them preview showings in primetime Sunday, July 21.
"Axe Cop" is the component involving the child, Malachai Nicolle, who's 8 now. At age 5, he developed the premise as an Internet comic book with his much-older brother Ethan. Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation") supplies the voice of the sleepless, birthday-cake-consuming title character, with Megan Mullally (Offerman's wife), Patton Oswalt and Ken Marino furnishing other vocals.
Also in the initial "High-Def" lineup is "High School USA!" with singer-actress Mandy Moore and Vincent Kartheiser -- alias Pete Campbell on AMC's "Mad Men" --...

Not many TV shows were specifically designed for the way many of us watch television today—namely, by watching for ten minutes on our iBrains, making GIFs of the best scenes, then flipping to the next show while we fight about the last one on Twitter. But Fox’s new Animation Domination High Def lineup, a late-night block of cartoons that premieres Saturday night, couldn’t be more suited to this kind of short-attention-span theater: the acronym spells out Adhd for a reason. The first two shows in the series, Axe Cop and High School USA!, are flat-screen-ready in all their two-dimensional glory,...

He's a cop with an axe. Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman will make his highly anticipated debut as Axe Cop, you know, said cop with an axe, this Saturday night when Fox's Animation Domination Hi-Def premieres, and judging from this exclusive preview we got our hands on, it seems like a role he was born to play. (Apologies to Ron Swanson!) Seriously, Offerman says "I'll chop their heads off!" with a little too much enthusiasm and passion, no? Hey, can you really blame him when he's channeling Clint Eastwood's gruff voice?! Watch our sneak peek at the new animated series to see why its creator knows Offerman would be the perfect Axe Cop... "Several friends of mine...
