For anyone growing up in the 2000s, Jennette McCurdy was a big part of their childhood. She played Sam Puckett, a rough and tumble girl with a spunky attitude, on the Nickelodeon sitcom "iCarly." The high-energy, candy-colored show follows a group of teenagers who find fame on a prank web series. "iCarly" ran from 2007 to 2012 and was followed by the spin-off and "Victorious" crossover, "Sam & Cat," where McCurdy starred alongside Ariana Grande (now an Oscar nominee for her role in the movie adaptation of "Wicked") as the series' namesakes. Their characters were like oil and vinegar, with Sam's toughness rubbing up against Cat's sweet, ditzy nature. The series was short-lived, though, and only ran from 2013 to 2014.
In 2021, "iCarly" was resurrected on Paramount+. The revival ran for three seasons and focused on an adult Carly, now a neurotic 20-something and social media influencer. Critics were keen on the reboot, with...

“I could not be happier” about the new venture, said Avan Jogia, one of Monet’s former co-stars, in an Instagram Stories post that hints at continued camaraderie among the original cast. A new “Victorious” spinoff is in the works at Nickelodeon, TheWrap has learned.
The network is in the midst of developing a series centered on Trina Vega (Daniella Monet), the older sister of “Victorious” lead Tori (Victoria Justice). Its working title, “Hollywood Arts,” is a reference to the fictitious performing arts high school featured in “Victorious.”
If it receives an official greenlight from Nickelodeon, the comedy will follow Monet’s Trina as she returns to Hollywood Arts High School as a teacher. In addition to leading the series, Monet is also attached as an executive producer alongside writers Samantha Martin and Jake Farrow, the latter of whom previously worked as a writer and producer on both “Victorious” and its first spinoff “Sam & Cat.”
Monet and fellow “Victorious” co-star Avan Jogia posted about “Hollywood Arts” on their respective Instagram Stories on Thursday. Jogia wrote that he “could not be happier” for Monet,...

Dan Schneider, the prolific writer/producer of seminal Nickelodeon shows such as All That, Kenan and Kel, Drake and Josh, and iCarly, has been mired in controversy since 2018. Nickelodeon parted ways with the successful creator after 25 years when an investigation revealed that Schneider had acted inappropriately towards the actors and crew on his shows. The 2024 documentary, Quiet on Set: The Darkside of Children's TV, detailed the allegations, finding that Schneider was verbally abusive towards his cast and writers, often wrote sexually suggestive scenes that fetishized female actresses, and created a hostile working environment.
Although Schneider is best known for his writing, he began his Hollywood career as an actor. Schneider appeared in several 1980s comedies, including Hot Resort, Making the Grade, the cult classic Better Off Dead, and the underrated Christopher Guest film The Big Picture, starring Kevin Bacon. His most prominent acting role, however, was on the classic sitcom Head of the Class,...

Famed Hollywood producer Dan Schneider has scored a legal victory in his lawsuit against Warner Bros. and Sony. On Friday, Judge Ashfaq G. Chowdhury ruled that Schneider, whose behavior while working at Nickelodeon is explored in the Investigation Discovery and Max docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, can move forward with a defamation lawsuit filed in May. In his suit, Schneider says the docuseries was a "hit job" that alleged he was a child sexual abuser.
Per Variety, Judge Chowdhury ruled in Schneider's favor on the basis that a "reasonable viewer" could deduct that the docuseries makes "damning implications about his conduct." The Judge also denied a motion filed on behalf of Warner Bros. and Sony to throw out Shchneider's defamation lawsuit, claiming Quiet on Set never accused Schneider of sexual abuse. When the sing-along screenings of “Wicked” go down beginning Christmas Day, I’ll be there — but not because I have any intention of personally raising my voice in song. I do have a natural curiosity about what luck a full house of fans will have in singing along with musical-theater songs this sophisticated… this full of stops and starts and sudden shifts from major to minor chords. There’ll surely be some trained singers and actors filling the AMC seats who can keep up with these tunes. For the rest of us, there may come a realization: I’m not that girl, and probably neither are you.
So what other reason is there to look forward to the official multiplex sing-alongs, if not, like, singing along? That’s easy: the subtitles.

After years of delays and anticipation, the first half of Jon M. Chu's sprawling, two-part movie adaptation of "Wicked" — the massively popular Broadway musical based on Gregory Maguire's retelling of "The Wizard of Oz" — is finally hitting theaters, and Chu has assembled an all-star cast to bring Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's Broadway hit to the big screen. "Wicked" flips the script on L. Frank Baum's original story about Dorothy (Judy Garland in the classic 1939 "Wizard of Oz" film) exploring the magical land of Oz by focusing on Elphaba, a young girl born with green skin who struggles to fit in at the prestigious Shiz University and ultimately becomes the legendary pop culture villain The Wicked Witch of the West (memorably portrayed by Margaret Hamilton in the '39 movie).
So, who's in Chu's "Wicked" movie, decades after Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth originated the lead roles of Elphaba and Galinda on stage?...

One of the most important elements of live-action adaptations comes down to the casting, and for Hercules, it will be essential to get the right actress in place to play Meg, Hercules' love interest. While Disney continues to adapt some of their classic films, surprisingly, alongside new hits like Moana, it has yet to adapt one of the all time greatest musicals ever made by Disney, Hercules. In 2022, this project was confirmed to be moving ahead, with the Russo brothers set to produce.
However, years later, very little has been announced about the upcoming Hercules movie, aside from another confirmation that it is still happening by the Russo's. It's likely that the movie won't be ready for a few years, but in the meantime, it's worth looking at potential castings for the central roles. And one of the most important characters to consider is Megara, a woman whose soul is indebted to Hades.

It sounds like Ariana Grande is ready to start the next phase of her career. Grande, who is earning rave reviews for her turn in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, has been primarily known as a popstar who has sold millions of records and has had a steady flow of hits. Before her music career, she began her professional journey on Broadway, later becoming a popular actress on Nickelodeon, and now she's ready to put music aside for a bit to focus on becoming a movie star.
During a chat on the Las Culturistas podcast, Grande revealed that participating in Wicked has reignited her desire to be an actress. For the last ten years, she has put pretty much all of her focus on her music career, but now she is intent on conquering movies in the same way she has taken over the world of pop music.

When she was originally cast in the role, she admittedly “felt a little bit of the initial nervousness” and the “preconceived notions about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver, or why I would be wrong,” Grande said on the podcast at the 33-minute mark. “It’s been a great secret. [The haters] didn’t get to see any of the auditions or know anything.” For the record, she will be going by her full name, Ariana Grande-Butera, in the “Wicked” credits...

The big-screen adaptation of “Wicked,” starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as the famed young witches Elphaba and Glinda, is filled with all sorts of easter eggs and nods to the hit Broadway musical as well as “The Wizard of Oz.” But one detail of the film caught the eye of Grande’s fanbase in particular.
The Universal movie, directed by Jon M. Chu, began screening for press, critics and influencers last month, and as audience members shared their rave reviews and first reactions on social media, fans quickly noticed that Grande is billed “Ariana Grande-Butera” in the film’s end credits.
It doesn’t take more than cursory Google search to educate the uninitiated, but Grande-Butera is the Grammy-winning superstar’s birth name. Still, it’s a conspicuous addition since Grande has never used her full name professionally.

Ariana Grande understands some skepticism surrounding her casting in the anticipated Wicked. Grande will star as Glinda, opposite Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, in the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. While it may be hard for most of us to fathom any negative response to Grande landing the role, particularly given her vocal prowess, some naysayers have questioned her ability to fully embody the character. And Grande gets it. During an interview on the Sentimental Men podcast, she discussed the scariest part of taking on the iconic role in the Universal musical, and it has everything to do with that doubt:
"I felt a little bit of the initial nervousness or the sort of preconceived notions about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver, or why I would be wrong or whatever," Grande shared.

Ariana Grande understands why some “Wicked” fans have reservations about her playing Glinda in the film adaptation of the Tony-winning musical.
During a recent interview with the “Sentimental Men” podcast, Grande was asked what scared her the most after she was offered the part in Universal’s movie musical.
“I felt a little bit of the initial nervousness or the sort of preconceived notions about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver, or why I would be wrong or whatever,” Grande responded. She later noted how fans of the musical might’ve only recognized her from her pop songs when her casting was announced, saying, “Going off of ‘Side to Side,’ I probably would’ve said the same thing. I probably would’ve said, ‘Why the fuck? Kill me. I’ve waited 20 years for this. Kill me.’ I would’ve said that — as a fan from the outside knowing of only ‘7 Rings,...

Ariana Grande thinks her speaking voice changed for the better in “Wicked.”
The Grammy winner told Vanity Fair that she thinks criticisms of how she adjusted her “physicality” to play Glinda in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical are sexist. Grande was mocked on social media after clip of her airier speaking voice on the “Podcrushed” podcast went viral; she posted on TikTok at the time, “I intentionally change my vocal placement (high/low) often depending on how much singing i’m doing. I’ve always done this Bye.”

On Thursday, Turner Networks, ID & Hln, linear and streaming president Jason Sarlanis told The Hollywood Reporter the original four-part series, which released March 17 and 18, far exceeded expectations and prompted the network to mobilize and greenlight the bonus episode to air only weeks later.
“We first started talking to [co-directors] Mary [Robertson] and Emma [Schwartz] about [extending the series] right after the trailer dropped,” Sarlanis recalled of the Feb. 8 first look, which featured clips of child stars coming forward with claims of abuse and sexism surrounding iconic kids TV shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s on Nickelodeon.

Marc Summers is speaking out about his experience being interviewed for ID’s “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” documentary. During an appearance on “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show,” the longtime host, said he was called and asked to be part of a doc about Nickelodeon. At the time he agreed, he didn’t know it was set to expose toxic behavior at the network.
“They asked me what I thought of Nick and the first 10 to 12 seconds, from what I understand, in this documentary, is me saying all these wonderful things. But they did a bait and switch on me,” Summers says in a sneak peek of the interview, set to go live on Friday. “They ambushed me. They never told me what this documentary was really about. And so they showed me a video of something that I couldn’t believe was on Nickelodeon.

McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”
Her “Ghostbusters” co-star is Finn Wolfhard, who made his debut at 13 in CW’s “Supernatural” before starring in “Stranger Things” and “It.” Zendaya, star of “Dune: Part Two,” got her start as a Disney Channel regular. Her co-star, Oscar-nominated Austin Butler, cut his teeth at Nickelodeon.
