K2 - La montagna degli italiani

A documentary about the first ascent of K2, achieved by a team of Italian alpinists in 1954.

This film is worth watching because it accurately depicts the dramatic events during the dreadful ascent and clarifies an episode related to one of the alpinist's (Bonatti) devoted support operations to the two alpinists designated for the final ascent to the summit (Lacedelli and Compagnoni).

This episode, originally omitted in the official report of the expedition, was widely controversial and received much discussion for decades afterwards in Italy and around the world, with some declaring Bonatti the villain and others the hero.
