New 'Toy Story 5' Image Introduces Conan O'Brien's Brilliant New Character
Image
As hard as it may be to believe, Toy Story 5 is just around the corner, set to reunite audiences with everyone's favorite band of sentient toys just when it looked like we'd never see them again. Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), and the rest of the Toy Story crew are set to return, but one of the secrets to this long-running franchise's success has always been the brand-new characters that each new entry introduces. This time around, our heroes will run into a particularly brilliant toy named Smarty Pants, who will be voiced by none other than beloved comedian and late-night television legend, Conan O'Brien.

O'Brien has always been known for his tongue-in-cheek,...

'Toy Story 5' Casts Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, Replacing Late Carl Weathers
Image
Pixar has found a legendary actor to step into the shoes of the late, great Carl Weathers in Toy Story 5. 2025 sees Pixar release the original film Elio, but next year, one of their most significant franchises returns with Toy Story 5, set for release in June 2026. One actor who sadly won't be returning to the franchise is Carl Weathers, who passed away on Feb. 2, 2024. Weathers previously voiced the character of Combat Carl, a G.I. Joe-type toy that has become a fun new addition to the franchise.

Deadline reports that Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson will step into the role of Combat Carl for Toy Story 5, taking over for the late great Carl Weathers. Weathers' character debuted in the 2013 Halloween special, Toy Story of Terror, and the actor reprised his role in 2019's Toy Story 4. Hudson is best known for playing Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters films. Hudson's...

Ernie Hudson Taking Over Carl Weathers’ Voice Role Of Combat Carl In ‘Toy Story 5’
Image
Ernie Hudson is taking over the late Carl Weathers’ voice role of action figure Combat Carl in Toy Story 5, Deadline has confirmed.

Prior to his passing due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, pro football player turned actor Weathers voiced Combat Carl in two projects: the 2013 TV special Toy Story of Terror! and 2019’s Toy Story 4, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide. He died in February 2024, aged 76.

While official plot details for Toy Story 5 remain under wraps, ahead of the film’s June 19, 2026 unveiling, star Tim Allen said in an interview with Wivb that the film is “a lot about Jessie,” the cowgirl doll voiced by Joan Cusack. “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign,” added the actor, who voices Buzz Lightyear. “And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyears. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”

In a separate...

Tim Allen Reveals Which Character 'Toy Story 5' Will Focus On
Image
Tim Allen revealed an interesting tidbit about Toy Story 5, one that suggests a fan-favorite character will at the forefront of the new movie - but it won't be Buzz or Woody. 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Toy Story's release in theaters, kicking off one of the most profitable and critically acclaimed animated film series of all time. After three decades, the franchise is still going strong. A fifth film in the series is set to open in theaters on June 19, 2026. Toy Story 5 certainly has fans concerned it will be more of the same, but it looks like Pixar will shake up the franchise a bit by shifting the main character.

In an interview with Wibv, via Deadline, Buzz Lightyear voice actor Tim Allen revealed that Toy Story 5 will center on the character of Jessie, the cowgirl doll voiced by Joan Cusack, who debuted in Toy Story 2.

Every Upcoming Pixar Movie You Need To Know About
Image
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, it seemed as if Pixar could do no wrong. The animation studio, in league with Disney, pushed forward the idea of all-computer-animated feature films back in 1995 with the release of "Toy Story," gaining a lot of critical attention for its clever writing and penchant for heart-rending sentimentality. It wouldn't be until the release of "Cars 2" in 2011 that critics would begin to cool to the studio. And even still, "Cars 2" was a $559 million hit.

In the 2010s, Pixar began to skew further and further away from original ideas and lean heavier into sequels or prequels to its earlier hits. Indeed, of the 10 Pixar features released in that decade, six were part of an established franchise. Some of these films were excellent, but the studio nevertheless seemed a few years beyond its creative peak.

The first half of the 2020s was a mixed bag for Pixar,...

How Carl Weathers Became Combat Carl in ‘Toy Story of Terror’
Image
Given their near-death experience at the end of Toy Story 3, it might have seemed like Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang were ready to ride off into the proverbial sunset after that third installment of the franchise, but Pixar quickly let it be known that was far from the case. Just a year later, a trio of shorts called Toy Story Toons began accompanying various Disney movies in theaters. Next up came the first Toy Story TV special, which featured Woody’s Roundup Gang venturing into a surprising new genre: horror.

First airing on ABC on October 16, 2013, Toy Story of Terror saw Woody, Buzz and Jessie take a trip to a hotel where toys quickly begin going missing, leaving only Jessie (Joan Cusack) to contend with a mysterious shadowy figure. After being isolated from the rest of the group, Jessie meets a lost toy named Combat Carl...

The Best Halloween Movies and Shows on Disney+
Image
When you think about where to head for Halloween favorites, Disney+ probably doesn’t immediately spring to mind. But just because Disney+ is free from blood-and-gore extravaganzas doesn’t mean it can’t scratch your spooky itch. In fact, far from it! There is a pretty robust amount of Halloween (and Halloween-adjacent) fair on Disney’s direct-to-consumer platform, including a bunch of new stuff that was recently added and so many classics, for every age group. Here are our choices for the very best Halloween movies and shows on Disney+ right now.

Frankenweenie (2012) Photo: Disney

Unlike other Disney remakes, which start out in animation before transitioning to live-action, Tim Burton decided to remake his oddball live-action short film (one of his “after school projects” that kept him busy while animating for Disney) in the form of a feature-length stop-motion animated film. Talk about a curveball! One of his most emotionally resonant and overlooked films,...

Carl Weathers, Legendary ‘Rocky’ Star with a Wicked Sense of Humor, Dead at 76
Image
Carl Weathers is dead at the age of 76. It’s shocking to consider, even though his best-known character, Apollo Creed, in some ways was ultimately defined by his death in 1985’s “Rocky IV.” The franchise went on without him, and ultimately followed his son played by Michael B. Jordan. But for the next 38 years, there was the fact that Weathers was in reality alive, well, in astonishingly great shape, and underutilized.

Now, Weathers has died himself. And given that he was one of Hollywood’s most prominent musclemen of the late ’70s and ’80s, an era defined by fitness-obsessed actors who either were athletes or aspired to be them, 76 feels startlingly young. Especially given how vital and active he was up until the very end, even directing a couple episodes of “The Mandalorian” so good that one wishes he could have, for the sake of that show’s quality, directed more.

The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 18 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. Chris Evans in Buzz l'Éclair (2022)
Tim Allen Says ‘Lightyear’ Is a ‘Wonderful Story,’ But Has ‘Nothing to Do’ With the Character He Originated
Chris Evans in Buzz l'Éclair (2022)
For some reason, the confusion around “Lightyear,” Pixar’s new sci-fi adventure, remains. And Tim Allen, who voiced the toy version of Buzz Lightyear in four “Toy Story” features and several spin-offs and specials, has finally weighed in. (Chris Evans voices the new film’s iteration of the character.)

“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do [with my character]. This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies,” Allen told Extra.

Also Read:

Why ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ Can Succeed at the Box Office Where ‘Lightyear’ Failed

But the actor’s claim that “a whole new team” created “Lightyear” is, perhaps unsurprisingly, categorically untrue. Angus MacLane, who co-wrote and directed “Lightyear,” has been at Pixar for many years. In fact, the first feature he worked on for the studio was 1999’s “Toy Story 2.” He worked...

‘Big Bang’ Prevails On Scary Night For NFL
CBS was Thursday’s most watched network, getting a break when Fox and the NFL Network were saddled with losing teams the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals and a lopsided game that plunged 38% in ratings week over week.

The Big Bang Theory was the night’s most watched program, beating the NFL. Still, Bbt matched its series-low demo in the early stats.

Murphy Brown retained 96% of previous week’s audience, though it did not top NFL, and hit a new low 69% retention of its Mom lead-in. At 10 Pm, CBS’ S.W.A.T. grew compared with the previous week.

Graves went on to say that the film changed their approach to animated family films, and that they would no longer give these movies “the benefit of the doubt” in...

The co-director of Finding Dory on making the film. Plus, he recommends an awful lot of movies to watch...

From working as an animator on A Bug’s Life and Toy Story 2, through to directing shorts such as Burn-e and Toy Story Of Terror, Angus MacLane has worked his way up through his career at Pixar. He spared us some time for a chat – and it’s worth staying to the end where he starts firing out film recommendations….

I first spoke to you eight or nine years ago when you were talking about Wall-e, that you were supervising animator. And you told me then of an eight-year old who asked you a question about that film at a Q&A. And I do think...

Fans nationwide are invited to celebrate Dory’s unforgettable spirit and her can-do attitude with Speak Like a Whale Day on Saturday, June 11, 2016.

“We had very few clues to go on,” continued Stanton. “We knew she’d been separated from her family, we knew she suffered from short-term memory loss, we knew she could read, and we knew she could speak whale...

Here's ABC Family's '13 Nights of Halloween' Lineup
ABC Family has announced the full lineup for its annual "13 Nights of Halloween" celebration, and its offerings of both kid- and adult-friendly fare signify that it's already beginning its transition into its upcoming rebranded network, Freeform.

The schedule includes perennial favorites like "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1," "Hocus Pocus," and "The Addams Family," which appeal to tweens and teens alike, along with flicks to attract a younger crowd, including "Frankenweenie," "Monsters University," and "Toy Story Of Terror!"

But the more-adult movies -- aimed at that so-called "becomer" demographic of viewers in their late 20s and early 30s -- begin late at night, and wouldn't have been caught dead on ABC Family's schedule before. These new flicks -- including Johnny Depp's "Sleepy Hollow," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and the original "Poltergeist" -- clearly signify the shift to Freeform, and should hopefully attract the audience that the network craves.

Toy Story 4: Everything We Know So Far
Disney/Wc

Whether you like it or not, Toy Story 4 is definitely happening.

Toy Story 3 was released in 2010 to critical claim, huge box-office success (it became the first animated feature to gross over $1bn) and, most importantly, seemed to tie an extremely neat bow on the franchise, giving what many fans thought was the perfect ending to the incredible trilogy that had played out over the past 15 years.

The characters have been brought back since then, in two television specials – Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story That Time Forgot – as well as three shorts: Hawaiian Vacation, Small Fry, and Partysaurus Rex. Generally these have been met with praise, although the larger movie audience – the one that forked out all of those dollars on seeing the films – have stayed more or less ignorant of them, and they are fairly easy to forget about.

Now, though, they’re coming back to the big screen,...
