Writer Statement:
My father 'Mr D' died 5 years after the tragic disaster that happened at The Clutha Vaults. He died in the May of 2018 and I wrote this script in tribute to him in the November shortly after. What made me write this particular story he told me comes purely from the heartbreak that he couldn't ever get over.
He was devastated when he lost his close friend Sam and a few others that he met in his his favourite haunt. My dad's nickname in The Clutha was Jimmy the fish. He would jump the train to arbroath to buy Arbroath smokies and dish them out in the pub; a legend he became.
The clutha is full of characters from all walks of life. No matter what race, religion or creed you came or what football team you supported, The Clutha opens its doors to you like a parent opening her arms. I always felt safe in there; you end up becoming friends with everyone as the music and enviroment of the pub is so welcoming.
Mr D is a survivor story, it is my fathers first person accounts of that fateful night. A night Glasgow will never forget.
