Fascinating, oftentimes maddening, and occasionally overdramatic, Good American Familyis thoroughly addictive television. Like its limited-series cousins, The Act, Adolescence, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the Hulu series presents a seemingly harmless child—or family—that are not who they appear to be. Or maybe they are. Either way, the tension builds to such a degree that you want to reach inside the screen and shake some of the characters you’re watching.

George A. Romero's 1982 anthology horror flick "Creepshow," scripted by Stephen King, was an homage to the roundly gruesome EC horror comics of the 1950s. EC was overseen by William M. Gaines, and he published titles like "Tales from the Crypt," "The Vault of Horror," and "Shock SuspenStories." They also oversaw sci-fi books like "Weird Science," war comics like "Two-Fisted Tales," and parody comics like "Mad." For those who think media of the 1950s was square and tame, reading a single issue of "Tales from the Crypt" will prove how sick and depraved writers could get.
Stephen King was a reader of EC Comics, and "Creepshow" was his attempt to bring their twisted, violent sensibilities into the Reagan era. Although there had been "Tales from the Crypt" movies prior to "Creepshow," the 1982 film was the biggest yet, boasting an all-star cast and salacious, energetic direction. The competition is heating up on Season 27 of The Voice as the first night of Battles took place on Monday night (March 10), with the coaches pairing up their teams and bringing aboard celebrity advisors. Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend, and Michael Bublé returned to the famous red chairs to judge the Battle performances, with each coach having one Steal and one Save available. And already, two coaches put their special powers to use. The episode saw Wicked star Cynthia Erivo mentoring Team Bublé, actress and singer Kate Hudson helping Team Adam, country stars Little Big Town assisting Team Kelsea, and actress Coco Jones counseling Team Legend. Things kicked off in a big way in the first Battle of the evening when Team Adam’s Britton Moore and Darius J went head-to-head with a performance of Radiohead’s “Creep.” It was a fierce battle, but Levine ultimately chose Moore as the winner.

The Voice Season 27 advanced to the second stage of the competition on Monday with "The Battles Premiere." In this round, each coach enlisted the help of an industry advisor as they counseled pairs of artists set to take the stage in head-to-head battles where only one would emerge victorious. Country group Little Big Town joined Kelsea Ballerini, entertainment icon Kate Hudson supported Adam Levine, R&b songstress Coco Jones was brought on board by John Legend, and Wicked Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo held space with Michael Bublé. Each coach has been refreshed with two advantages to use during the Battles: a save, to keep a battle loser on their team, and a steal, to snatch a battle loser from one of the other teams.

NBC’s “The Voice” kicked off its battle round with a pairing choice that coach Adam Levine finds “impossible.”
In a clip of Monday’s episode shared exclusively with TheWrap, Team Levine singers Britton Moore and Darius J go head-to-head by collaborating on a rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep,” which Kelsea Ballerini calls “magic.”
“I think both of you have a great shot at winning this show, and you’re not on my team, it makes me sad,” she says. “Maybe we can change that!”
Ballerini then compliments Darius J’s “yummy” runs while noting that Moore is like “the boy next door” — a quality she thinks makes people root for him.
Michael Bublé goes on to call Darius J a “less swear-y Gordon Ramsay” due to his love for entertainment and says he thought the choice was obvious — until Moore hit his top note. “I was like, ‘Oh, no,...

Over the past two decades, the Academy Awards have been in a constant state of flux: There are now 10 best picture nominees instead of five, the membership has grown (and diversified) by more than 50% in that time, streaming releases now routinely vie for the top prize. Amid all that change, one constant remains: For 20 years, U.K.-based Shorts International has been working with the short film nominees to get their work seen around the country. The theatrical audience for those releases grows each year, to the point that the “2025 Oscar Nominated Short Films: Live Action” package (which just crossed $3 million at the box office) is on track to outgross even best picture nominee “Nickel Boys.”
First up in an all-around strong (and impressively international) selection is the Croatian short that won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year, “The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.” Set...

Picture this: you’re broke, desperate for a gig, and find yourself on Craigslist answering a vague job listing that offers a suspiciously generous payout. What could go wrong? If your answer is “probably everything,” congratulations—you’re smarter than Aaron, the unsuspecting videographer at the center of Creep (2014). But hey, horror movies wouldn’t be fun if the characters made smart decisions, right?
Eleven years after its release, Creep remains one of the most unsettling yet darkly comedic entries in the found footage horror genre. Starring and co-written by Mark Duplass, alongside director Patrick Brice, this micro-budget horror film strips away supernatural frills and relies entirely on human unpredictability to terrify its audience. Creep relies heavily on improvisation, atmosphere, and unsettling character dynamics to create a uniquely disturbing experience. But does it still hold up after all these years? Spoiler alert: Absolutely. Let’s dive into why this eerie...

Back in 2014, writer/director Patrick Brice and co-writer/star Mark Duplass teamed up with Blumhouse Productions to bring us the found footage horror film Creep – which was so well-received that a sequel, appropriately titled Creep 2, followed in 2017. Before Creep 2 was even released, Brice confirmed that a third film was in development and was meant to wrap everything up as a trilogy – but along the way, the plan changed from making another feature to making a TV series called The Creep Tapes. The six-episode series made its premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services back in November, becoming “the most watched Shudder show of all time on AMC+ and the strongest November release in Shudder history, driving record subscriber growth and social media engagement.” But Shudder and AMC+ aren’t the only places this one is going to be available. Mark Duplass will return to creep all of us out in more episodes of the found-footage horror series The Creep Tapes from Shudder.
1428 Elm has learned that the show—which became the most-watched series of all time on Shudder and AMC+—is set to continue with a six-episode season 2. Duplass will return as executive producer and writer alongside his Creep co-creator Patrick Brice.
An episodic expansion of the two films Creep and Creep 2, The Creep Tapes consisted of six new "tapes" from Peachfuzz, and in each one, he claims a new victim. In even better news, fans won't have to wait very long for the next season, as Shudder and AMC Networks will release it later this year.
The second season will "continue to unravel the mind of this secluded serial killer (Duplass) who lures videographers into his world with the promise of a paid job documenting his life.

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced today the renewal of its found footage horror series The Creep Tapes, from writers and executive producers Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice, for a second season of six episodes.
The first episodic installment of the cult favorite Creep franchise was the most-watched Shudder show of all time on AMC+ and the strongest November release in Shudder history, driving record subscriber growth and social media engagement. Season two of the Shudder Original Series will debut later this year on Shudder and AMC+.
Season two will continue to unravel the mind of this secluded serial killer (Duplass) who lures videographers into his world with the promise of a paid job documenting his life. Unfortunately, as the tape rolls, the killer’s questionable intentions surface with his increasingly odd behavior, and the victims will learn they may have made a deadly mistake.

With an affinity for improv and offbeat characters, Jay and Mark Duplass have embraced the indie movie and TV landscape since the founding of their independent production company, Duplass Brothers Productions, in 1996. Often associated with the low-budget mumblecore movement of the early-2000s, offering movies like The Puffy Chair and Cyrus, the filmmaking duo has certainly experimented with genres over the past three decades. Notably, Mark Duplass — who's in front of the camera as often as he is behind it — creeped his way into the hearts of horror aficionados back in 2014 with Netflix's hit found footage film Creep.
Directed by Patrick Brice and produced by Duplass Brothers Productions and Blumhouse Productions, Creep follows a freelance videographer, Aaron — played by Brice himself — who answers a bizarre online ad from a man named Josef, played by Mark Duplass. Claiming to have terminal cancer, Josef wishes to make a documentary film for his unborn child.

The BBC’s new comedy drama Video Nasty is a wonderfully nostalgic ode to an era of banned horror on VHS. Here’s our episode 1 review.
Remember the good old days of strolling into a video store and spending at least an hour picking a film? Or getting your big brother or an older friend to rent one of the classic horror films for you before you were old enough to do it yourself? It’s an era I often look back on and miss. From other zombie comedies like Shaun of the Dead to other Jim Jarmusch-directed absurdist horror films like Only Lovers Left Alive, there are a ton of great movies like The Dead Don’t Die to check out. Now streaming on Netflix, The Dead Don’t Die tackles the familiar setup of a small-town zombie invasion in a completely unfamiliar way. As usual, the local cops are tasked with fending off the undead, but this movie has cops that know they’re in a movie, a zombie-slaying samurai played by Tilda Swinton, and a hefty dose of Jarmusch’s signature deadpan humor.
There’s no other movie quite like The Dead Don’t Die — it’s a very unique cinematic experiment — but there are movies with similar tones and styles. There are other movies that take a quirky comedic approach to a zombie apocalypse, like Life After Beth. There are other horror films with a refreshingly offbeat voice,...

In the early 2000s, the resurrection of the slasher wave, kickstarted by Wes Craven's Scream, fell into a decline as audiences got bored of the usual whodunits and teenage protagonists. In 2004, horror transformed thanks to James Wans' Saw, which began the horribly named "torture porn" era. However, coming out around the same time, and getting in before the genre reset, was a smaller film called Creep. No, not the 2014 film with the same title by Mark Duplass. The Creep made a decade before was a British film written and directed by Christopher Smith. As a slasher, it aimed to do things differently by making the killer more monstrous and the final girl rather unlikeable. And then there was that subway setting, which was influenced directly by the John Landis classic An American Werewolf in London.

This winter, the Creep Limited Edition Blu-ray Box Set and Standard Edition Blu-ray hits shops. But if you’re lucky, you could grab yourself a copy in our latest giveaway.
Creep has earned its place as one of Empire’s 50 best horror films of the 21st century, hailed as “one of the funniest and scariest horror-comedies of this century” (Deep Focus Review). Now, this acclaimed gem is set for a special release as part of the Second Sight Films Limited Edition collection this winter.
Directed, co-written by, and starring Patrick Brice, Creep follows Aaron, a down-on-his-luck videographer played by Brice, who answers a seemingly simple online ad for a one-day job in a remote mountain town. Armed with his camera, Aaron heads into the unknown. Upon arrival, he meets his employer, Josef (Mark Duplass), a man with a chilling request: to film a video message for his unborn child, as he believes he’s dying.

With “Get Ready with Me” videos now all the rage on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, Mark Duplass is getting in on the action with his beloved serial killer character Josef from “The Creep Tapes.” Based on the found footage horror films “Creep” and “Creep 2,” Duplass and co-creator/director Patrick Brice reinvent their cult classic for a half-hour series streaming on Shudder and AMC+ called “The Creep Tapes.”
Each episode follows Josef as he lures in a new victim to film him as he works towards their slaying. The series premiered at Fantastic Fest this year in September, followed by a streaming debut on November 15. Its fifth episode releases tomorrow, but ahead of it dropping, IndieWire has an exclusive sneak peek below.

The six-episode series made its premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services last month – and during an interview with The New York Times, Duplass revealed that he made the show with the intention of it becoming comfort viewing for the audience, much like Friends and Seinfeld.

He’s baaaack. Indie filmmaker and actor Mark Duplass has returned as eccentric serial killer Josef from the found-footage horror films “Creep” and “Creep 2,” but now he’s bringing the terror to TV. Now streaming on Shudder and AMC+, “The Creep Tapes” follows Josef’s continued exploits with each episode featuring a different victim. In shifting the narrative to 25 minute installments, Duplass found inspiration in making his anthology series “Room 104” for HBO or observing classic sitcoms.
“I wanted ‘The Creep Tapes’ to feel, as crazy as it sounds, the way I felt with my family during the pandemic when we binge-watched ‘Friends’ and ‘Seinfeld.’ There’s a cold open, and the credit sequence hits, and we just feel comfortable,” said Duplass in a recent interview with The New York Times. “This is going to be a comfort show, weirdly, for people who love this character. It’s the comfort of discomfort.

The co-creator and star of a Blumhouse found footage franchise explains why they made the jump from Netflix to Shudder. Although it's primarily known for its movie offerings, which run the gamut from Happy Death Day to Get Out, Blumhouse has had several television series with varying levels of success. Some of their more notable projects in recent years include the horror anthology Into the Dark and Prime Video's The Horror of Dolores Roach.
The production company made its mark, however, with the 2009 found footage horror Paranormal Activity. Directed by Oren Peli, and continuing in the form of several sequels, Paranormal Activity helped to propel found footage horrors as a way of telling familiar stories through a fresh lens and subverting expectations. Another mini-franchise, which has made the jump to television, would follow a few years later.

The found footage horror movie subgenre saturated the film market after The Blair Witch Project was released in 1999. It might have taken a few years, but by the end of the 2000s, the monumental success of Paranormal Activity assured us that the subgenre wasn't going anywhere. Since then, we've gotten several found footage franchises, such as Rec, V/H/S, and Creep, as well as six more Paranormal Activity stories and a Blair Witch sequel. Although some argue the subgenre is stale and overused, there are still fresh releases that revive the style. And in 2022, we got the perfect example of this in Deadstream. The horror comedy manages to be interchangeably satirical and terrifying, filled with humor, jump scares, grotesque practical effects, and unpredictable twists.

In 2014, Creep creators Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice unleashed a bizarre new villain on the horror world: Josef, an overstepping extrovert who makes well-meaning strangers afraid of hurting his feelings, when they should be afraid for their lives. This strategy may sound familiar to fans of films like Straw Dogs, Speak No Evil, and Funny Games, in which the protagonists are too civilized to stand up for themselves, but The Creep Tapes levels up with a clever critique of modern masculinity.
In Speak No Evil, a predatory rural couple uses shameless displays of sexuality and machismo to intimidate and manipulate uptight tourists — a story derived from Sam Peckinpah's controversial thriller Straw Dogs. In Funny Games, an upper-class family is disarmed by the killers' antisocial antics. The Creep franchise's antihero also uses his prey's social training against them. Uniquely, though, he leverages the cultural stigma around emotional openness between men in order to get way,...

After wrapping October with Robert Zemeckis’ hilarious dark comedy Death Becomes Her (listen), we kicked off November with a look back at Wes Craven’s classic slasher A Nightmare on Elm Street (listen), followed by Albert Ray’s pre-Code 1932 “classic” The Thirteenth Guest (listen).
In honor of Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass re-teaming for Shudder’s The Creep Tapes (review), we’ve decided to revisit the better-than-the-original sequel Creep 2.
In the film, after dispatching new “friend” Dave (Karan Soni), Aaron (Duplass) sets his sights on flailing YouTube personality Sara (Desiree Akhavan). After trying all of the same tricks as the first film, however, Aaron finds that Sara is unflappable: she’s not bothered by his pranks and jump scares and seems more than willing to match his freak in every conceivable way
As the battle of wills escalates, it soon becomes clear that these two may just be made for each other.

Heretic (2024) Movie Ending Explained: What Does the Butterfly Symbolize in the Ending of ‘Heretic’?
Hugh Grant, one of the most household names in Hollywood romcoms for two decades, is now pulling out all the big guns as the creepy, majestic, and hardcore critic of all things religion in Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ new Mormon horror, Heretic (2024). Beck and Woods have previously tried their hands on filmmaking after co-writing the 2018 blockbuster “A Quiet Place,” but they couldn’t really tap into the horror genre before this venture with Grant. “Heretic” is one of those movies that stay with you long after you’re done watching it, and is bound to be a solid Thanksgiving horror for those who fancy the genre. The film raises questions about religious beliefs and points out the dogma behind every big religion. The cast also includes Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as the two Church members stuck with Mr. Reed and his web of mind games.

The Creep Tapes not only marks the return of the Creep movies' titular serial killer but also adds new characters to the mix who serve as catalysts for exploring the franchise's comically unsettling world and stories. Made on a shoestring budget of $500, the first Creep movie garnered immense critical acclaim after its release in 2014 and still boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%. For obvious reasons, the movie's success spawned a sequel, which premiered in 2017. Unlike most sequels, Creep 2 performed even better than its predecessor, boasting a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Although Creep 3 was reportedly in development after the second movie's success, creative challenges held its filmmakers back from bringing it to life. However, instead of creating Creep 3, they have now made a spin-off/prequel miniseries, which unfolds partly as an anthology. With each new episode, it shows how the franchise's central killer targets and murders new victims.

Warning: This Article Contains Spoilers for Heretic
The main antagonist of Heretic is the devilishly charming Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant). Obsessed with theology and figuring out what is the truth behind all religions, he puts Heretic's leading women, Sister Paxton (Chloe East) and Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher), through the ringer. After inviting the Mormon women into his home, they cannot leave unless they entertain Mr. Reed's religious lectures and tests.
One theory Mr. Reed proposes is that all religions are reiterations of each other, which means they are at the root the same. To prove his point, Mr. Reed makes a few comparisons to other instances of popular media or games that remix their predecessors. One example is the song "Creep" from the band Radiohead, which Mr. Reed sings after revealing to the sisters it was ripped from a 1972 song by The Hollies. He also reveals the legal battles over...

Nothing in the world of film and TV excites horror academics like the meta-slasher. This curious subgenre emerged in the ’90s as a response to the slasher boom of the previous decade and involves skewering standard tropes with characters and scripts well aware of the films that have come before. Wes Craven’s 1996 masterpiece Scream opens with the killer quizzing his victim about classic slasher franchises and Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods concludes with a Director entering the scene to explain the archetypes each doomed character fulfills. Meta-slashers play with our expectations by blatantly giving characters the tools to survive then daring them to follow through with the knowledge they’ve accrued. They are ingenious twists on a beloved cinematic formula and a way to build upon the lore we’ve come to expect.

Peachfuzz is back in The Creep Tapes. Writer-actor Mark Duplass and writer-director Patrick Brice chatted with Bloody Disgusting about the unlikely found footage franchise’s trajectory from Creep to the new series.
“It’s really kind of a special one for me,” says Duplass. “I always hear this fun lore about, like, bands who just started jamming together casually and then it turned into this amazing thing, or like Mike Leigh will be talking with his friends and then all of a sudden this movie comes out of it.

Following the success of their cult films, “Creep” and “Creep 2,” Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice have returned to the franchise for a third installment — this time for television — in Shudder/AMC+’s six-episode series, “The Creep Tapes.” The show, which stars Duplass and is directed by Brice, examines six tapes from serial killer Peachfuzz’s (Duplass) previous kills. While “The Creep Tapes” relies on the rawness of the found-footage technique, the rapidly-paced episodes lack the predatory undertone that makes the movies so unnerving. Instead, the series is comprised of dull fragments, acting more as a disjointed vanity project than a horror story spotlighting a homicidal maniac’s bloodlust.
The show follows the same structure as the “Creep” movies. In Episode 1, “Mike,” Peachfuzz lures a filmmaker named Mike (Mike Luciano) to a cabin in the woods, promising to pay him $1,000 to film his acting school audition. Mike gets an eerie...

The Creep Tapes is the third entry in the Creep franchise, with each episode focusing on a new victim of Josef, Peachfuzz, or whatever the real name of the titular serial killer is. The 2014 film teased the closet full of recordings that Josef had collected by luring relatively innocent people into his traps. The 2017 sequel didn’t exactly make it clear that Josef was alive or dead. So, maybe those tapes (being played in the form of these episodes) are being played for our viewing pleasure by a copycat killer, or maybe Josef is alive and is making new tapes, which are being shown to us via this miniseries. In the first episode, Josef pretended to be Jeff Daniels, an aspiring actor who wanted to shoot an audition tape in a remote cabin, and hired Mike, a struggling filmmaker, to help him with it. Things started off on a weird note between them,...

The two Creep movies by Patrick Brice relied on a very simple premise. The titular serial killer would lure a struggling videographer to a secluded place under the guise of making some kind of documentary on him. I think that Josef is his real name because it was somewhat confirmed by his sister, Angela. But he also goes by Bill, Peachfuzz (which is the alter-ego when he dons his favorite wolf mask), Aaron, and whatever else pops into his mind while toying with his prey. In the 2014 film, he stalked and killed a guy called Aaron, and in the 2017 film, he fell in love with his victim, Sara, and almost stabbed her to death, but he failed and she hit him on the head with a shovel. Now, I assumed that Josef died in that film and the guy who was stalking Sara after that incident was a copycat killer,...

Few horror films in recent memory have left as big (and unnerving) of an impact as Creep. Directed by Patrick Brice, this story of a man tricking a gullible videographer into an entire day of terror disturbed audiences back in 2014. It gained wide acclaim, leading to a sequel in 2017. It thrilled fans, then, when it was announced that we were getting a spin-off in the form of Shudder's The Creep Tapes. Still focused on the franchise's central monster, each episode will follow the charismatic "Aaron" (Mark Duplass) making one of his "tapes" as viewers watch him find a new set of victims to lie to, psychologically terrorize, and eventually murder all on film.

Two of the more bizarre found footage movies ever made, Creep and Creep 2, forced audiences to live in tense dramatic irony. At no point in either movie did Mark Duplass appear even marginally coherent, yet his victims numbered in the dozens. Taking a step back into the lore of “Peachfuzz,” Duplass returns to the role with a six-part TV series for Shudder – aptly titled The Creep Tapes. Across the episodes, Duplass gets to flex his acting chops, allowing his serial murderer to take even stranger swings. Horror fans will delight in the late-year show, while those outside the fandom may struggle to connect.

Mark Duplass and Patrick Brices Creep films have become celebrated cult horror classics that stand tall among the generic glut of found footage horror that has dominated the past two decades or so. There have been repeated false starts to get a Creep 3 in production. In January 2007, the pioneering DVD-by-mail rental service Netflix launched a streaming media platform, introducing the idea of video on demand via an Internet connection. A the time of launch, Netflix only had 1,000 films available for streaming. A month later, Netflix would mail out its billionth DVD to a customer, which marked the beginning of the end. In the following years, thanks to partnerships made with studios and broadcasters like Disney, Warner Bros., Viacom, DreamWorks, The CW, and AMC, Netflix's streaming service was proving more popular than the mail subscription service that built their company.
But on February 1, 2013, a massive shift occurred when Netflix released "House of Cards," its first original, United States-produced series exclusive to the streamer. It wasn't just a riveting political drama, but one that also boasted huge Hollywood names like a yet-to-be-disgraced Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. “The Creep Tapes,” a six-episode series, adds a new, twisted chapter to the scary world that was first presented in the cult-favourite found-footage movies “Creep” and “Creep 2.” This Shudder and AMC+ release, which came from the minds of Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice, is a bold new direction for a horror series that has been popular for almost ten years.
What started as a possible third movie became a collection series that promises to learn more about the mind of one of the strangest serial killers in modern horror. Duplass is back in the part that has become famous for him, playing the character now associated with awkward, skin-crawling tension and dark humour. The series takes a more open look at the killer’s world than the original movies, which were more private and suffocating.
When it premieres on November 15, “The Creep Tapes” takes viewers on a trip through separate episodes.

Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass 2015 found-footage horror movie, Creep, was an experience that was heightened by having absolutely no pre-existing knowledge and even fewer expectations. Part of what made it such an enjoyable watch was the fact that you could stumble upon it on Netflix at least for me. I was stunned by how unnerving and deeply disturbing this small film was, a psychological power-play between predator and prey that becomes a different film every ten minutes. It was surely a lightning-in-a-bottle success, but the sequel was almost just as strong as the first, with new co-lead Desiree Akhavan a refreshing introduction to the canon. So, almost 10 years after the first films release, a decade that saw plenty of requests from fans for another installment, we have The Creep Tapes.

Created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer, one of FX's most popular comedy series was "The League," which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The raucous sitcom follows a group of friends in Chicago who run a highly competitive fantasy football league every year, creating their own challenges, rewards, and penalties. Along the way, the ensemble endures their own hilarious highs and lows involving romance and family life in between planning their fantasy teams. Throughout the show's run, the group is joined by several memorable guest stars and recurring characters, including the occasional real-life football player getting in on the fun.
Led by a solid ensemble cast of talented comedians, "The League" introduced beloved, crass characters framed against the backdrop of fantasy sports. Since the show's ending in 2015, many of the cast members have gone on to continue their film and television careers, while others haven't reached the same level of success.
