The director of Hera Pheri and Hungama series, Priyadarshan, is back to Bollywood after his last film Hungama 21. The filmmaker has teamed up with Akshay Kumar and Ekta Kapoor for a comedy film that is expected to go on floors in December 2024.

According to sources, the film will be produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms and will feature Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalized. The film will be shot in Mumbai and other locations in India.

Mumbai, July 19 (Ians) Shruti Hassan, sporting a rebellious attitude, has said that she has trouble fitting into society with all its rules and norms, with her many challenges making it difficult for her to adjust.

But taking pride in her unique self, which many term as ‘weird’, she shared a rhyme where she said that now she knows what to really care about, and even though she has been misunderstood, the difference in herself brings her much joy.

Michel Fessler, co-writer of “Little Nicholas,” selected at Cannes this year as a special screening, has boarded Ravi K. Chandran’s “Tamara” as scriptwriter.

Based on a story by Paris-based playwright and actor Vasanth Selvam (“Dheepan”), the film will follow 26-year-old Indian origin woman Tamara from Camargue in the south of France, who seeks her roots in the southern Indian territory Pondicherry, which was once a French colony. In parallel narratives, the film will trace the emotional turmoil of Tamara and two other women.

The film is fully financed and being produced by Indian companies Sithara Entertainments (“Bheemla Nayak”), Pawan Kalyan Creative Works (“Sardaar Gabbar Singh”) and Fortune Four Cinemas (“Sir”). Producers include Trivikram Srinivas, Nagavamsi S., and Sai Soujanya.

It is co-produced by Samir Sarkar for Singapore and India based Magic Hour Films (Rotterdam titles “Nasir” and “Jonaki”).

The agreement with Fessler was negotiated at the Cannes Film Market by Chandran and Sarkar.

"In a way I am happy and thankful I am still here but I think my personality is such that I always look for room to improve. So I am always looking to get better at what I do," Shruti told Ians.

Shruti made her Bollywood debut in 2009 with "Luck" and was seen in films like "D-Day", "Gabbar Is Back", " Ramaiya Vastavaiya" and "Welcome Back".

She gained recognition with her roles in Telugu films like "Oh My Friend" and "Anaganaga O Dheerudu", and the Tamil thriller "7aum Arivu."

Viacom18 Studios in association with Aamir Khan Productions just announced their new production and it is very exciting. Titled Laal Singh Chaddha, the film is inspired by Paramount Pictures’ Oscar winning movie, Forrest Gump. While Aamir Khan essays the titular role in the film, Kareena Kapoor Khan will be seen paired opposite him as Jenny in the adaption.

Laal Singh Chaddha is directed by Advait Chandan of Secret Superstar fame and is being written by Atul Kulkarni. The film will release in Christmas 2020.

Talking about the film, Aamir told Pti in an earlier interview,

Viacom18 Motion Pictures has signed a deal to market and distribute five Lionsgate features in India.

The Indian studio, a joint venture between Viacom Inc and the Network18 Group, will release Lionsgate’s Deepwater Horizon, La La Land (pictured), Patriots Day, Power Rangers and Nerve in cinemas in the coming months.

Morris Street Advisors Pvt Ltd, which represents Lionsgate in India, facilitated the deal.

It's apocalypse time at the Indian box office, what with John Abraham's Rocky Handsome ready to take on Zack Synder's summer Hollywood extravaganza Batman Vs Superman Dawn Of Justice which features Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman.

Director Nishikant Kamat feels the action scenes in Rocky Handsome take the action genre in Bollywood to the next level. "We had to make sure the action scenes surpassed whatever John had done in his earlier films, or for that matter whatever was attempted in the action genre before this."

Kamat feels the stunts in Rocky Handsome are unique. "They are stylized yet raw and real. If you ask me for a reference it would have to be Transporters."

Kamat conducted a 3-week action workshop with John. "He has a very pumped-up gym-designed body. We needed John to be more agile. We prepared John for the role in Bangkok.

The game is on for Airlift. After a heartening opening weekend of 44.3 crore, the film was ultra steady of Monday as well. This was pretty much on the cards as well since the word of mouth is terrific and the appreciation is across board. With today being a holiday, last evening and night shows showed good occupancy as well. As a result, the film collected 10.4 crore on Monday, which is superb as only a select few films manage a double digit score on a working day. With this, the film has now scored 54.7 crore, which is huge by all means. Also, considering the fact that today would be huge as well, the film is set to cross at the least 70 crore inside 5 days, which would immediately confirm that the film is set to be Hit at the least. After a good opening day which pretty much paved the path for the film, Airlift continued to soar over the weekend. There were good jumps evidenced and as a result, the film now stands at the ₹44.3 crore* mark. Now this is a very good total for a film which is as offbeat as it gets when it comes to a drama featuring a superstar.

While the film is being compared with Baby and Holiday, the fact remains that former was much more commercial in its appeal while latter was a quintessential mainstream entertainer. However, Airlift is entirely dependent on the content with its main selling point being Akshay Kumar as the face of the film. It all started with Baby in January 2015. Ever since then, Akshay Kumar has already scored three more releases in the form of Gabbar Is Back, Brothers and Singh Is Bliing. Now in a span of exactly 12 months, the man would have his fifth film hitting the screens – Airlift. While his contemporaries are churning out one or at maximum two films in one year, Akshay Kumar is pretty much setting a record of sorts with as many as five releases to his name.

Tirelessly moving ahead and stepping into films as diverse as Housefull 3, Robot 2 and Rustom, Akshay gets into a conversational mode.

Unlike Holiday, Baby or even Gabbar Is Back which required you to perform a lot of action, Airlift isn’t about the kicks and punches from you. How was it to be a part of some true drama?

I watched many of these duds so that you don’t have to, and trust me they’re not as hilarious as I’m going to make them, because for every great Jodi like Srk-Kajol in Dilwale there’s Sunny Leone being paired with Ram Kapoor. Yet there were some awful gems like Msg and its sequel that came out in the same year – take that annual Fast and Furious franchise! Herewith is the worst and secretly hilarious of the year.

Worst Actor – Emraan Hashmi for Hamari Adhuri Kahani/Mr X

After doing so well in Shanghai, and Ghanchakkar, Emraan decided to play it safe with his performances in Hamari Adhuri Kahani (paired opposite Vidya Balan) and the atrocious Mr X.

This has to be the most 'dhamaakedaar khabar' before close of year. Just when it seemed that Akshay is redefining himself with a compelling act in much awaited Airlift, his nod of approval for Robot 2 has turned out to be as big an announcement as one can expect. Three notable films release this weekend – Singh Is Bliing, Talvar and Puli. Out of this, it is only Singh Is Bliing which will take a huge opening at the Box Office. The Akshay Kumar starrer has made all the right buzz ever since its first poster came out, and ever since then has seen an escalation in momentum as far as hype is concerned. The film is releasing with a good element of positivity around it, which is a must for a biggie. The songs have worked as well with a couple of chartbusters. Moreover, it is arriving on the weekend of 2nd October, which is a big national holiday. That is further going to give impetus to its collections.

Saturday’s episode of The Voice India was entirely dedicated to celebrating India’s Independence Day. Keeping this patriotic theme in mind, the audience were shown the special video that featured people from across India thanks to the popular #MyVoiceMyAnthem social media initiative.

The two performing teams of this episode, were team Hr and team Shaan. It was time for host Karan to announce the public voting results of team Hr! Both Sachet and Deepesh were safe. Coach Hr had to say goodbye to Anish who sang a few lines of a song dedicated to his mother. Anish received a standing ovation from coaches Sunidhi and Mika for this impromptu and emotional performance. Coach Hr swiftly reminded Anish that he too, would be singing for him very soon. Host Karan, was then ready to announce the public voting results for team Shaan. Akash and Ritu were safe. Coach Shaan had to say farewell to Varsha.

In the season where films have started doing well at the Box Office, Brothers has managed to find audience for itself over the weekend. If the start was good, if not phenomenal, there was some good escalation waiting to take place on the rest of the weekend. Saturday was always going to be the key for the film and the Karan Malhotra film managed to cross the 21 crore mark. Sunday didn’t see as many footfalls asSaturday but still did better than Friday, as a result of which around 53 crore* came in once the weekend was through.

In the process, Akshay Kumar has now managed to get his biggest opening weekend after since Rowdy Rathore (48 crore) while Sidharth Malhotra too has gone past his Ek Villain (51 crore) record. Also, records of Akshay’s own this year, Gabbar Is Back (40 crore) and Baby (36 crore – First three days, since it was released on Thursday) are history.
