Image
Dallas Frazier, the songwriter behind such country hits as The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Elvira,” The Hollywood Argyles’ “Alley Oop” and Emmylou Harris’ “Beneath Still Waters,” has died, according to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CEO Kyle Young. He was 82.

“Dallas Frazier is among the greatest country songwriters of all time. He could convey infectious fun with ‘Elvira,’ and then write something as stunningly sad and true as ‘Beneath Still Waters.’ His songs helped Connie Smith to become a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame,” said Young in a statement published the Country Music Hall of Fame’s official website. “He was a man of kindness, generosity and faith, who overcame a hardscrabble upbringing to offer smiling gifts to all of us. He lived a beautiful life of a beautiful mind.”

Born in Spiro, Oklahoma on October 27, 1939, Frazier released albums throughout his career including Elvira,...

History’s ‘The UnXplained’: William Shatner Charts The Unknown With Latest TV Enterprise
William Shatner
William Shatner’s latest television enterprise is for History as the host and executive producer of the new Friday night series The UnXplained, which will seek out extra-terrestrial mysteries but won’t require a Galaxy-class starship to accomplish its small-screen mission.

This weekend the Emmy-winning actor and Star Trek icon will also be the top-billed special guest at AlienCon 2019 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The three-day event (presented by A&e Networks and Mischief Management) is both a pop culture expo and a summit for psuedo-science; the convention was inspired by the History hit franchise Ancient Aliens, a show that will be splitting the Friday night schedule with Shatner’s new on-screen life form.

Nobody knows more about conventional thinking than Shatner: Star Trek conventions in the...

Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp Join the Star Trek: Discovery Series; Michelle Yeoh's Captain Role Confirmed
Doug Jones in Space Command movie as Dor Neven

Last week we learned that Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) was the first person to join the cast of CBS' Star Trek: Discovery series. It has been confirmed by Deadline that she will be playing a Starfleet Captain named Han Bo, and she will captain another ship in the series named the Shenzhou. This ship will play a big role in the first season of the series.

It has also been reported by Variety that Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan's Labrinth) has joined the cast as a character named Lt. Saru, who is described as "a Starfleet science officer and a member of an alien species new to the 'Star Trek' universe." This is a role I'm sure Jones will be perfect for. Anthony Rapp (A Beautiful Mind, Dazed and Confused) has also joined the project and he will play Lt.

Fans Love It: 'Space Command' Exceeds Funding Goal
If this money is talking the way it's supposed to, then it looks like the proposed film series "Space Command" is not only a go -- it already has an enthusiastic fan base. The series from science-fiction alums Marc Scott Zicree, Doug Drexler and Neil Johnson, set a Kickstarter goal of $75,000 to get started on a series that would pay homage to classic 1950s science-fiction. Instead, with more than a month to go, fans have responded with just under $130,000 by Tuesday, and the pledges haven't stopped there. "This says a lot about how the fans feel," Drexler told Airlock Alpha when providing an update on the project. And it's hard to argue that. So far, "Space Command" has attracted pledges from one less than 1,500 people. That's an average donation of $87. Already, two people have ...
