‘Nurse Unseen’ and ‘The Glassworker’ to Screen at Inaugural Napa Valley Asian American Film Festival
“Nurse Unseen” and “The Glassworker” are both set to screen at the inaugural Napa Valley Asian American Film Festival in the Northern California wine country city.
The festival celebrates Asian and Asian American excellence in storytelling and highlights the creativity and innovation at the forefront of contemporary American cinema.
This partnership was inspired, in part, by Iw Group, a creative multicultural agency aligned with Interpublic Group and its founder, Bill Imada, in conversation with Napa Valley College, filmmakers, producers and community leaders.
“Napa Valley is a place where cultures thrive,” said Imada. “The region attracts people of all interests, from artists to agronomists and from entrepreneurs to high-tech innovators. And like many diverse communities that have thrived in Napa for years, Asian Americans are also making a positive impact here. One way to showcase the richness of Asian American stories is through films, and Napa Valley College’s Performing Arts...

Jean Shim’s “A Great Divide” follows a Korean-American family moving from San Francisco to rural Wyoming, looking for a fresh start. The family patriarch, Isaac Lee (Ken Jeong) receives an exciting job opportunity that pushes him to this transition. His wife, Jenna (Jae Suh Park), and their teenage son, Benjamin (Emerson Min) accompany him. They enter their new home, loaned by Isaac’s employer, and are mesmerized by how spacious and sleek it is. This is beyond their imagination and what they were used to. Shortly after their arrival, Benjamin’s close friend, Ellie (Miya Cech) arrives to spend time with them.
As ethnically East Asians, the four of them do not find anyone in Wyoming who looks like them. It doesn’t faze the parents since they have experienced that kind of alienation in their formative years. However, the kids find it hard to digest. The predominantly Caucasian...

With the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender having left fans in awe, it didn’t come as a surprise that Netflix would very hastily turn its eyes to the second season of the series. The show was renewed for two seasons in March, 2024 itself.
The streaming giant soon set about its business of taking the second season forward. Albert Kim stepped down from the capacity of showrunner, with Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani taking over the reins of the show. But that isn’t the only major alteration for Avatar Season 2.

“On the day of her graduation, Liza and her parents are driving to a restaurant to celebrate when a truck slams into their car. Eighteen months after the car accident, Liza is unable to walk and lives alone after her parents’ death. Feeling responsible, Liza spends her days trolling vloggers on a local website. Late one night, a new video is uploaded in which a man sets fire to a dog. She reports it to the police, but the police detective, Boyle, cannot be bothered with a misdemeanor.
