The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas!

Good for the Kids

Displays a slew of thematic lessons for the kiddos, and makes a holiday movie fun to watch, by moving beyond the "classic" themes of a Christmas movie.

Rather Pointless

'Twas the day before Christmas and all through the yard the Cat in the Hat (Martin Short) and his guests partied hard. When the party was over, and the guests all departed one poor baby reindeer was left broken-hearted!

My first instinct is to give this a 3 or 4 because it just really is not all that entertaining, the songs are alright but forgettable, and Martin Short is a fairly annoying voice to play the Cat. This will not become a regular Christmas special in my home, and probably not anywhere else.

So why the higher rating of 5? Simply because I recently saw "The Legend of Frosty the Snowman" with Burt Reynolds, and that was far worse. In fact, it may be the worst Christmas special ever made. So, in comparison, this one comes off looking not half bad. Nothing great, but not the tragic mess that "Frosty" is.

For kids but totally awful

Doesn't teach your kids anything and it's so weird. I can't stand Dr Seuss at the best of times but this was incredibly poorly made and idiotic.

My little one watched it once but thankfully lost interest halfway through.

The storyline also makes no sense, the Cat hosts a party then some annoying baby reindeer causes everyone to do a massive detour because he's a complete idiot. That's basically it.

Add to this bad songs and annoying rhyming couplets and that's your standard Dr Seuss film. I'd much rather watch the Michael Myers version as at least that had some jokes in it!

Looking for a Xmas movie? This ain't it.

Christmas?

Absolutely nothing about Christmas; don't waste your time. Listening to the voice of Martin Short is the only way this cartoon earned one star. I couldn't endure past the scene with the dolphins. A Cinematic Masterpiece

In our household, we all gather round, flying from even the most remote parts of the world, to watch this film. The songs are incredible with: hey-ho we really ought to go but it's too much fun to leave, being the standout song. It's also got an extravagant story, that starts at a random party in a forest, goes to Africa, then to the ocean, then to an island, and finally, to Freeze your Knees Snowland. Martin Short does and incredible job at Cat in the Hat and it has some brilliant foreshadowing throughout. I've watched it every year since I was but a young'un an it's never gotten old. They don't make films like this anymore. 10/10.
