In the fine tradition of guy-cry movies such as The Shawshank Redemption and True Grit, director Nikolaj Arcel's Danish epic The Promised Land was destined to be a home video classic. The movie is proving itself consistently on Paramount+, where it continues to draw massive interest despite competition from major franchise titles. Starring Mads Mikkelsen, The Promised Land remains one of the most acclaimed films of 2023, having competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and made the Academy Awards' December shortlist in the International Feature category.
According to FlixPatrol, The Promised Land was the second-most-watched title on Paramount+ on June 9, behind long-time number one Gladiator II. The movie beat out Tom Cruise's mega-hit Top Gun: Maverick, which made over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office in 2022. The Promised Land earned 179 points on June 9, compared to Maverick's 161 points. The movie has accumulated a total of 714 points...

Before Alan Ritchson was turning the role into his own bone-crunching phenomenon, one of the biggest actors in Hollywood history took his own crack at Jack Reacher. The film is directed by Cruise's long-time collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie, who also helms the pair's current big box office blockbuster, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The 2012 Jack Reacher movie may have faded into some obscurity given the success of future Cruise projects and Ritchson's aforementioned Prime Video series, but a recent spotlight on the pair has helped the film find sudden streaming success.
Officially, as of Sunday, June 8, 2025, Jack Reacher is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Pluto TV in the US. At #7 in the list, the film is doing battle with a host of high-profile titles, from two Mission: Impossible movies, including the first entry in the franchise and Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, to the highly acclaimed horror 28 Days Later.

British filmmaker Sean Cronin sinks his teeth once more into the horror genre with Bogieville, a southern gothic vampire tale that makes its UK digital debut today, courtesy of Reel 2 Reel Films. Following festival premieres at Cannes and FrightFest, the film is now available to audiences eager for a fresh injection of creature-feature dread.
Set deep in the sweltering American South, Bogieville follows a couple on the run who find themselves ensnared in far more than a case of bad timing. Ham, played by Arifin Putra (The Raid 2), and Jody, portrayed by Eloise Lovell Anderson (Villian), stumble into an abandoned trailer park seemingly frozen in decay. Lured in by its eerie caretaker Crawford (Jonathan Hansler), they are warned to remain inside after dark. Naturally, they don’t.

Director Christopher McQuarrie has been all things Mission: Impossible for a decade. He directed and wrote Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation in 2015 and has been working with Tom Cruiseon the films in the series ever since. The latest, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, was released on May 23, 2025, in the United States, and as usual, garnered a lot of attention, good and bad. There were positive reviews about Cruise's self-performed stunts, the explosions, and overall top-notch action, which made the final installment one to remember. However, its main criticism was the early exposition, which McQuarrie explained during an interview with The New York Times.
While backstories are appreciated by viewers who haven't followed the franchise or the previous film in the series, getting too much or insufficient information early in the production can be a lot. There are ways to provide information about the characters, the mission, and other things throughout the film's plot,...

In the battle of super spy dominance, the two names at the top of the table (unless Jason Bourne turns up with a rolled-up newspaper) are James Bond and Ethan Hunt. 007 might have a few years on Tom Cruise's Impossible Mission Force member, but since the latter arrived on screens in 1996, the competition has always been there and might never stop, even after "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning." While the argument might rage on, though, there are a handful of fortunate souls who are lucky enough to give perhaps the best comparison possible, given that they've inhabited both of those worlds. Yes, over the eight "Mission: Impossible" movies and 27 Bond films, some actors have dared to get a taste of danger by dabbling in both their worlds, crossing paths with both Ethan Hunt and James Bond sometimes mere years apart.

There's no denying the impact 28 Days Later had on the horror genre. Although not technically the undead, the "infected" in the movie revitalized what was quickly becoming a tired zombie gimmick in film, breathing new life into the monsters whilst also holding a mirror up to society in a bleak and powerful way akin toDawn of the Dead. Danny Boyle's frenzied horror, led by Cillian Murphy’s breakout performance, is considered by many to be one of the genre's best.
However, fewer have indulged further into the franchise and tasted the flesh of the lesser-known sequel, 28 Weeks Later. Directed and co-written by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the 2007 installment follows siblings Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton), a pair of beacons in a bleak landscape with their genes thought to hold the cure to the Rage Virus. Alongside Poots and Muggleton, the movie also stars the big-name trio of Robert Carlyle,...

Tom Cruise did his first underwater scene for “Legend” (1985), followed by executing far more demanding scenes in “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014) and most famously “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” (2015), where he held his breath for six-and-a-half minutes. But when writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, who has made eleven films with Cruise, was on the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast, he made clear the duo walked away from “Rogue Nation” deeply dissatisfied with the underwater set piece.
“Shooting in water is extremely challenging and very frustrating,” said McQuarrie, who at one point swore never to do another underwater scene.
According the McQuarrie, the biggest problem is how time-consuming these scenes can be to shoot, having been limited to only six setups a day working in the tank on “Rogue Nation.” He also said there were a number of mistakes made in how the underwater scenes had been designed for the 2015 “M:i” movie, including its over-reliance on visual effects.

Just last month, Shia Labeouf added another exciting new title to his ever-growing filmography with Salvable, a boxing drama also starring Toby Kebbell. Although receiving mixed reviews from critics, an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes proves that the film was a hit with audiences, with Kebbell and Labeouf's dedicated training under the tutelage of former pro boxer Carl Frochclearly paying off.
Perhaps in light of Salvable's positive reception with audiences, or simply thanks to Labeouf's enduring appeal as a committed performer, one of his forgotten former flicks has made its way into a streamer's top 10. Currently, 2008's Eagle Eye is proving popular on Paramount+, joining the list as the #7 most-streamed movie on the platform as of June 5, 2025.Eagle Eye, sadly, faced a similar mixed reception to the aforementioned Salvable, with audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes awarding the film a strong 65%, but critics delivering a tragic 27% that certainly underrates this entertaining,...

Tom Cruise has always done everything he could to provide moviegoers with the best experience at the theaters, and that includes doing the stunts himself. He learned how to fly different types of planes, climbed the world's tallest buildings, ran, jumped, and held his breath underwater for many minutes, and most of them were for the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Naturally, all his hard work led to him breaking a few records. The actor returned as Ethan Hunt for seemingly the last time in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and that came with even more death-defying stunts. For one of them, Cruise jumped 16 times with a burning parachute and scored himself a new Guinness World Record.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is dominating the box office after earning over $200 million in less than a week, which has helped other installments in Tom Cruise’s action franchise find success on streaming. However, one has excelled more than others. 2018 brought on the release of Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which is not only the highest-rated entry in the franchise with a 98% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it also introduced Henry Cavill as August Walker/John Lark to the Mi universe. The sixth Mission: Impossible film, which also netted an 89% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, has become a global streaming sensation, topping streaming charts in more than 10 countries. The film is available to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. and on HBO Max in most international territories.

Spoilers for "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" follow.
Ethan Hunt has had his final reckoning, and "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" has become a box office win. The film is absolutely loaded with Easter eggs, call-backs, and fan-favorite characters returning to enjoy their overdue moment in the sun.
But there is one character whose absence is felt in every frame of the very long movie: Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust. First introduced in Christopher McQuarrie's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" as the ultimate foil to Tom Cruise's superstar spy Ethan Hunt, Isla won audience's over with her uber-capable spy skills and her inability to wink. The film ended up changing the entire path of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, and Isla is no small reason why.
That's why when Ilsa died in "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning," many in the audience were just as heartbroken as Ethan Hunt.

In Novocaine, Jack Quaid plays banker Nathan Caine, who can feel no pain. Now the same can be said for the movie itself as the 2025 feature film, which co-stars Amber Midthunder, Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Far From Home), and Ray Nicholson (Smile 2), is currently sitting in the painless No. 1 spot of all movies streaming on Paramount+, per FlixPatrol.

YouTube creators Sean Evans of Hot Ones, Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal from Good Mythical Morning, and Michelle Khare of Challenge Accepted are making their case for Emmy nominations.

One of the strange quirks of the nearly three-decade-old "Mission: Impossible" franchise of action films is that while the series is known for its amazing, jaw-dropping setpieces, the climaxes of these films aren't always the most notable part. "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," for example, has the incredibly tense sequence in which dedicated Imf Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) scales the side of the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai ... but that setpiece occurs in the middle of the film, and the movie concludes with a fight sequence in the middle of a high-rise parking garage. The original "Mission: Impossible" is well-known for its deadly silent CIA break-in sequence, which also occurs at the midpoint. While its ending scene on the fast-moving Chunnel is well-done, that sequence has always paled in comparison to the image of Cruise dangling on a wire and barely avoiding slamming onto the pressurized floor.

Although Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning raised some eyebrows with what was perceived as a low critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, especially in comparison to its immediate predecessors, the movie appears to have been embraced more wholeheartedly by audiences. The eighth film in the long-running action franchise debuted domestically this week, several days after it opened in a handful of overseas markets. It’s expected to deliver a franchise-best debut at the box office, which makes sense, considering that it has been strongly marketed as the final installment of the series.

Through eight Mission: Impossible movies across three decades, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt clearly had his favorite teammates among the Impossible Mission Force. Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) were Ethan’s ride-or-die guys, while Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) was like a force of nature in three of the M:i films.

Ethan Hunt needs you to trust him, one last time. Will “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” actually be his final outing? Hard to know for sure. But what we do know is that each of his missions so far has led to this one, so you might be wondering: how important is it to watch all of the other “Mission: Impossible” films?
Hitting theaters on May 23, “The Final Reckoning” sees Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team continue their fight against The Entity, an AI parasite that is hellbent on destroying the human race. Given that The Entity can assess and account for almost every possible outcome, the mission does seem a bit more impossible, knowing every move the humans make may be part of a bigger design.
The eighth film in the franchise is a direct continuation of the events in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” albeit with a little time having passed.

If you were to ask John David Washington his favorite movies, he'd name two starring his father. One is "Glory," which provided Denzel Washington with his breakthrough role and remains one of the best Civil War movies of all time. The other, however, was one of Denzel's five collaborations with the late, great Tony Scott. The pair worked together on "Crimson Tide," "Déjà Vu," "The Taking of Pelham 123," and "Unstoppable," but it was 2004's "Man on Fire" that represented the very best of the Washington/Scott collabs.
This Denzel actioner might have a surprisingly low Rotten Tomatoes score, but don't let that fool you. When it comes to the star's action efforts, there are few better films in his filmography than "Man on Fire." Mission: Impossible 5 is one of Hulu’s top trending movies, but it’s being promoted with an image taken from a scene that’s not in the film. The adventures of Ethan Hunt are presumed to be coming to an end with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, though Tom Cruise could always reverse course and return for one last thrilling foray as the death-defying secret agent. With the (maybe) last Mission: Impossible set to release on May 23, streaming subscribers are checking out past films in the series, pushing the fifth entry, Rogue Nation, onto Hulu’s top-trending movies list.

It’s hard to imagine Tom Cruise saying goodbye to Ethan Hunt, the character he’s dutifully portrayed since 1996’s Mission: Impossible. But everything from the name (The Final Reckoning) to the trailer’s closing moment (“I need you to trust me one last time”) sure makes it seem like the end of the road for a character that’s outlasted countless crises, two James Bonds, and five presidential administrations.

God bless Brad Bird. He was the director tasked with the revival of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise in 2011, after J.J. Abrams concluded the initial three films in the series with "Mission: Impossible III," and he laid down the groundwork for future installments, aiming to be bigger, better, and more blistering than ever before. Bird's "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" was a blast. It opened the floodgates for a goofier yet also more intense, and even more action-oriented line of movies that set out to be hyper-exhilarating and adrenaline-fueled spectacles.
But it wasn't until Christopher McQuarrie's first entry in the franchise, "Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation," that the Tom Cruise-powered features reached their full potential. ‘Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning’ Earns Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead of US Debut
The summer box office has officially kicked off with one of its biggest blockbusters, as fans wave goodbye to an action franchise that stands tall as both one of cinema's best and the most famous example of the term "Impossible" being repeatedly misused. Over the past weekend, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning debuted in a handful of overseas markets following its screening out of competition at the recent 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 14. In said box office debut, the film has flown out of the blocks with an impressive $11 million so far, incredibly from just three countries, including $5 million from Korea, $4 million from India, and $2 million from Japan.
However, despite early financial success, how has Tom Cruise's Final Reckoning fared with critics so far? Initially, following the first wave of reviews hitting the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Final Reckoning was the proud owner of a "certified fresh" 89% rating.

Simon Pegg thinks it’s "bittersweet" that ‘Mission: Impossible’ is ending. The 55-year-old actor has portrayed I.M.F (Impossible Mission Force) technician Benji Dunn in the action franchise from 2006’s ‘Mission: Impossible III’, and has now admitted it is "strange" to see the franchise be sunsetted with ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’.Speaking with Collider, Pegg said: "It's strange. It's bittersweet, is the best way I can describe it. "It's been such a ride. It's been such an amazing experience. I feel grateful, and I feel sad, and I'm excited for people to see this movie. I mean, what an incredible wrapping up."The ‘Hot Fuzz’ star added director Christopher McQuarrie - who has helmed the series from 2015’s ‘Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation’ - "has done such an incredible job" of building on what has come before, and crafting the story of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise).Pegg...

Tom Cruise continued his global press tour for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” as the mega movie star stopped by the film’s New York premiere on Sunday evening.
“This story is a culmination of the last 30 years,” Cruise told the packed crowed at AMC Lincoln Square, which boasts one of the best Imax screens in the country. “It’s been about seven years since we started talking about [‘Dead Reckoning – Part One’], and McQ wanted to make two of them. While Tom Cruise has always been the main draw when it comes to the Mission: Impossible franchise, over the years several other characters have made their way into fans’ hearts. One such character is Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust.
Faust debuted as the first female lead in the franchise in 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Since then, she had become a staple part of the franchise until her death in Dead Reckoning Part One. While fans now mourn for her, Ferguson could have remained part of the franchise had Cruise fixed one major problem.

In the nearly three decades since the release of Brian De Palma’s Mission: Impossible in 1996, there have been a total of eight releases in the series. The series has boasted contributions from directors such as the aforementioned De Palma, John Woo, J. J. Abrams, Brad Bird, and – for the last four entries in the series – Christopher McQuarrie. Now, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, brings what may very well be Imf agent Ethan Hunt’s final mission.
Following the events of 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his Imf team must find and destroy the Artificial Intelligence known as the Entity before it gains control of the world’s governments and their nuclear arsenals, ushering in the end of days.

Ongoing trade tensions are not stopping Tom Cruise’s newest Mission: Impossiblefilm from being released in theaters in China. Variety reports that Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning will get a May 30 release in China, which is a week after the action epic opens in the U.S.
In April, Beijing issued a warning that it was going to “moderately reduce” American films from coming to China as a response to President Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods. However, China has also permitted several other notable Hollywood films to be shown in the mainland. Films like Disney’s upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch, DreamWorks and Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon, and Warner Bros. A Minecraft Moviehave all secured spots in Chinese theaters.
China’s warning to reduce the films came prior to Trump’s 90-day pause on the U.S./China tariffs issue. The president has since lowered U.S.

Few modern blockbuster franchises have been as thrilling as "Mission: Impossible." What began as an excellent summer thriller with Brian De Palma's crackerjack "Mission: Impossible" in 1996 evolved into something bigger with each subsequent sequel. Over time, the series became a seemingly unstoppable machine buoyed by the presence of Tom Cruise, a preternatural performer willing to risk life and limb for our entertainment. The "Mission" films weren't just action-adventures — they were stunt showcases, where Cruise, as superspy Ethan Hunt, would continually do his own dangerous stunt work. The results spoke for themselves: in an era where big studio movies have become awash in digital artifice, the "Mission: Impossible" movies were doing something real. Tom Cruise wasn't safe on some studio set in front of a greenscreen, damn it! He was really hanging off the tallest building in the world!

It never occurred to me while I was watching “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” that when Alec Baldwin declared Tom Cruise — I’m sorry, I mean “Ethan Hunt” — to be “the living manifestation of destiny” that I was watching something subtle. But compared to the endless procession of Cruise-aggrandizing speeches in “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” that’s exactly what it was.
These “Mission: Impossible” movies have always been odd ducks as far as movie franchising goes. The original film introduced a team of memorable characters, just like the show, but killed them off immediately, including the series’ only consistent hero, Jim Phelps. It then declared Jim Phelps to be the real villain, and made a hitherto unknown new character the star. Try getting away with that in a Batman movie sometime and see how far it gets you. What will seemingly be the last chapter in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise, The Final Reckoning, will hit theaters everywhere next weekend. After playing Ethan Hunt for nearly 30 years, Cruise has found ways to one-up himself each time he suits up as the legendary spy, and The Final Reckoning will certainly be no different. One of the most famous shots from the film’s marketing campaign sees Cruise hanging off the wings of a biplane soaring through the air, which is one of the most dangerous stunts in movie history. Mission: Impossible 8 director Christopher McQuarrie recently sat down for an interview with GQ, and he revealed that expert wing walkers told Cruise his plane stunt was impossible:
"They said, ‘What do you want to do?’ And Tom said, ‘I want to be between the wings of the plane holding on to the tension wires, and I want to...

It’s safe to say that the “Mission: Impossible” franchise is the most consistent recurring saga in Hollywood’s recent history, as nearly every installment in the series contains the type of creative storytelling, stylistic flourishes, and inventive spectacle that most blockbusters are devoid of. While John Woo’s “Mission: Impossible II” stood as the only real failure in the series, the franchise took on a more serialized format with the fifth entry, “Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation,” the first of which to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie. By deepening the character arcs and adding more insight into the psychology of Ethan Hunt, McQuarrie was able to heighten the stakes with each subsequent entry, with the final two installments serving as a grandiose sendoff to the series that began in 1996.

Perhaps among the summer's riskiest films, F1: The Movie will determine whether there's a market for mega-budget, star-driven tent poles that are not based on prior intellectual property. Starring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski, the movie cost a reported $300 million to produce, and marks Pitt's biggest project in over a decade. He last headlined a movie this big back in 2013, and it was just as risky then. The movie in question, World War Z, was produced at a time when projects involving zombies were generating huge levels of interest; this was in the aftermath of The Walking Dead. World War Z is now making an impression on the streaming charts, as fans get ready for F1 later this summer.
According to FlixPatrol, the epic action thriller claimed the fourth spot on Paramount+ charts on May 13, earning a total of 120 points for the day.

Tom Cruise may not be the tallest guy in Hollywood, but he sure stands taller than most in the food chain. Reported to be 5 feet and 7 inches tall, the superstar is often made fun of for his height. After all, haters need something or the other to latch onto to bring a man down, right? However, his larger-than-life movies often exaggerate his height, making him appear taller than he really is.
While there are obviously many ways to accomplish this trick, there is one movie where Tom Cruise didn’t have to lie about his height – the 2014 sci-fi, Edge of Tomorrow, starring Emily Blunt. Here’s why I believe this creative decision did justice to his character, Major William Cage.

Many stars come to mind when you hear the phrase, ‘aging like a fine wine’. The likes of George Clooney, Paul Rudd, Keanu Reeves, and Jeff Goldblum are the first to cross our minds. But some simply don’t age. Tom Cruise falls in that category.

Tom Cruise really works hard to do his own stunts in his movies. One of the main reasons Mission: Impossible movies have gained so much fame is Cruise’s habit of putting himself at risk just to improve the authenticity of the action.
If you are someone who follows the Vanilla Sky actor, then you must be familiar with his chase for adrenaline. Long before he dangled off skyscrapers or flew helicopters on screen, Cruise was already living life on the edge — skydiving, racing, and flying planes just for the thrill of it. He holds an actual pilot’s license and even owns a few aircraft, like a P-51 Mustang WWII fighter jet and a Gulfstream IV. He has also done more than 100 jumps for fun, which sounds pretty insane for someone of his age.

Tom Cruise has charmed audiences throughout the decades with his many avatars on screen. Be it as a dangerous spy, a charming action hero, or even a vampire, he has proved why he is hailed as one of the best actors in Hollywood consistently over the years.
Being a spotlight stealer for years also means that there aren’t many things about the actor that the media hasn’t covered. Whether it is about his likes, dislikes, feuds, or even romances, fans have mostly gotten a front row seat to Tom Cruise’s life more than once.
However, there is one thing about the actor that many people might still be unaware of. That is, just how much he seems to enjoy memes, that too, of his movie character. Add Nicolas Cage to that mix, and Cruise’s reaction to it became unforgettable.

The final “Mission: Impossible” will be the longest film in the whole franchise.
TheWrap confirmed with a source close to production that “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” will have the longest runtime in the entire action franchise. The Tom Cruise-starring film is being touted as the final entry in the series that began back in 1996.
“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” will reportedly clock in at 2 hours and 49 minutes. That beats out the last film – “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” – which ran for 2 hours and 42 minutes. If the movie is indeed the finale to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, it seems they are leaving as much in the last cut as possible.
