Straight-forward non-critical bio documentary

As Episode 1 of "Branson" (2022 release; 4 episodes of about 60 min. Each) opens, it is "June 25, 2021, 14 days before Branson flies into space" and Branson addresses the camera, in case something goes wrong. We then go back in time to "1970" when he starts a student magazine and two years later he launches Virgin Records as a cut price alternative label. At this point we are less than 10 minutes into Episode 1.

Couple of comments: this is the latest from writer-director Chris Smith ("100 Foot Wave"). Here he is granted full access to Richard Branson, as Branson talks about his life and career. Simply going on Episode 1 (the only episode released as of now), this is all quite straight-forward, and not a single critical question or comment can be heard. In the early days money was tight, and then one day Richard is a billionaire, just like that. Richard's wife of 40+ years, Joan, is interviewed extensively, as is Richard's sister. Perhaps the best story is how Richard buys Necker Island in the BVI for next to nothing (asking price: $4 million; Richard gets it for $180,000).

"Branson" has been heavily promoted on HBO in recent weeks, and Episode 1 premiered just.a couple of days ago. This isn't a "bade" mini-series, but it certainly isn't greatly compelling either. And lack any new insights on Branson. Of course don't take my word for it, so I'd readily suggest you check this out and draw your own conclusion.

Selfmantery not documentary

Not sure if it's Bransons fault or HNO, my feeling is both. It's just fake and nothing new. Having read a few biographies I was hopfor more the same.

This is just a controlled behind the scenes doc. It's not worth your time. Really not much new and very biased.

I'm sad to say that as years ago I thiugtthis guy was awesome, not so much now.

He did so much when he was younger, helped people. Later was searious about investing in others, sure he had his requirements. Now it seems others have taken over and it's not about helping, just about money.

Just read wiki and get more.

This is such a missed opportunity by Branson and HBO.
