Nothing I love more than scrolling through Amazon video looking for independent diamonds in the rough. Often times I find myself starting a movie only to shut it off part way through, so when I actually find one that holds my attention and truly entertains me, I find myself obligated to pass the word along.
Deadly Revisions caught my attention on the film festival circuit with the name of Bill Oberst Jr attached, and although I hadn't been lucky enough to actually see it during it's run, it remained in the back of my mind as one to watch if the chance ever presented itself. When I surprisingly found it on Amazon, I jumped at the chance, and I was not disappointed.
Oberst plays horror novelist Grafton Torn who, after an unfortunate fall down the stairs, finds himself suffering from memory loss. The recollection of how the accident happened constantly plagues Grafton, as do visions of some very effective and creepy ties to his own horror stories.
With the help of a friend, and a therapist, Grafton begins to piece together the events in what is an effective, gradually paced thriller.
The great thing about Deadly Revisions are the feelings of isolation and unease associated with the uncomfortable atmosphere and mystery surrounding the events of Grafton's accident. Director Gregory Blair gives us chilling glimpses of the puzzle, but never quite enough to put it all together until the end. The lighting is effectively dark at times, and helps to set a tense mood throughout.
Truly my only criticism is that the movie is incorrectly labeled as a horror, and is much more a dark psychological thriller with horror elements. Die hard horror fans may find it a bit unfulfilling, but the truth of it all is that Deadly Revisions has so much more challenging the audience than just crazed killers with power tools, or the over saturated zombie genre. Definitely worth giving it a try.

This is one of the best indie films I have ever seen period, as it's quite a chilling and creepy film, with a suspenseful story and amazing performances! All the characters are fantastic, and the ending is a huge shocker and is extremely chilling. There are many twists and turns that are subtly put forth. Truly an underrated gem. See it if you can.
I downloaded this movie for a flight from Amazon prime and could not stop thinking how bad it was! I rarely write on here, but this movie amazingly had enough good word behind it to incline me to watch. Clearly its all from people related to its making as it has 68 rated votes. Bothering to watch was a terrible mistake. The acting is atrocious. Its so bad that if the acting were the only bad part of the movie it would still warrant a 1 star review, but the lighting, dialogue, plot and overall direction is so banal and mundane I can say its one of the 10 worst movies I have ever had to watch. At least Troll 2 is so bad its somewhat laughable/entertaining. This movie is so bad its boring. The worst kind. there is not one thing I can say to recommend it. HORRIBLE.
Saw this at a film festival and it was the best thing I saw, hands down!
Meticulously sets up what appears to be a simple story of a horror film writer with amnesia whose nightmares, despite the help of a beautiful hypnotherapist, become more and more disturbing. The nightmares reveal memories of a dark past. But are they real? Some of them include characters from his own films! So the fun is trying to figure out what's going on along with the writer.
Bill Oberst, Jr. as the writer is fantastic at walking the line between seeming to be a terrorized, wounded man and a possible psychopath. He's the perfect unreliable narrator, since we see things through his eyes. Can we trust them? As the film moves into its final third, you'll begin to wonder if you can trust yourself!
I highly recommend this psychological thriller. It's an extremely rewarding slow descent into a very creepy and thrilling place.

How the hell did this film ever get any awards or nominations. One of the worst movies ever!!!!! I could only sit through 28 minutes before turning it off. The acting is TERRIBLE!! It took me completely out of the story. All of the characters were emotionless, no depth. I just want to throw up. As a fellow filmmaker, I am upset that this got made. So much potential, and it falls flat on its face. Why are people loving this!? Ugh!
