Christmas Carol

I don't really understand how movies that make you cry equals to a 1 star honestly. A movie that gets you feel and think and reflect is a good movie. There might be things that the directing is lacking (given the small budget as well), but if left a long impression on me that I still think about.

A Christmas Carol is a movie to reveal the unfortunate but realistic lives of the minorities who live under poverty line. A twin who are 17 years old, with a unwell grandmother, and a younger brother with severe intellectual disability (not autism). Their parents abandoned them since young, the older brother had to take on a huge debt his dad left behind (and still being put onto him til now) and the responsibility to raise this family as a minor. Dropped out of high school and working day in and day out.

It is more of a slow burn type of movie, it does not make you feel relived that if the protagonist was able to get his revenge or not. It's about how people at the bottom can rarely see justice. And their "revenge plan" is simply by trying to give his life, no grand plans, no leverage.

But if you think about once if anyone on that street would have not turn their heads away on that Christmas Eve night, maybe their story would have been different, then the movie is already meaningful.

The acting from the movie was really top notch. The main cast might be young, but a few of them have actually been acting since awhile ago given their age. And the older cast is also experienced as well. They gave the movie a grounded feel as the emotions are very raw. Especially the protagonist who acted as the twin, really gave a nuanced performance for each of the roles.

If you appreciate quiet (without much musics), slow burn, gritty, realistic and movies that explore the humanity side of things, then you should try this out. It's not your typical Korean revenge stories where the protagonist can do anything and everything, but it surely does make you feel and think.

I absolutely mean it when I say he's the next rising star. His acting skills & dedication is just incredible. Portraying 2 completely opposite roles is a big challenge & he just nailed it. I wanna point out he's an "Idol-Actor" but show me another actor of his generation who'd pick a movie like this. This movie is controversial & talk about sensitive issues. Not many actors with shinning idol career would dare to take this challenge with a risk.

But Jinyoung did it & slayed it. Even in his previous projects he showed how much of a powerful actor he is. But he never got enough appreciated or recognized for his works & that's really unfortunate. I hope people will know his worth after this movie. I knew he would won award for this movie & he already bagged Baeksang New Male Artist in Flim awards. I hope this is just the beginning. He will shine bright an as actor.

I cried and deeply felt the emotion and how messed up this world is. Seeing the plot twist angered me more. It doesn't feel like a movie , it's more of a documentary. Just think of how many lives was ended with this same reason. This is good yet traumatizing. How the scenes played out made you think that one character is the safe spot until you realize they're the villain. The action scenes here is gore , honestly they're just all filled with rage and trauma, the twin brother who died didn't want anyone to suffer like he did, it made me feel more pity towards him. This movie will who you how the world is, you're good but your surrounded by villains it's up to you if you're going to follow. Also a highlight of this movie is sibling love language. Always listen to your younger or older sibling , especially if they don't communicate well. This is the end, again good movie.

The movie is +18 so if you're under DO NOT watch it, the acting is just on another level where and i have to admit i liked the actor doing the twin roles, he made my heart ache for them so much. One of the brothers being autistic was a very sensitive topic to discuss and that's the main part that makes this movie so sad to me, because you know that this happens in real life & you are hopeless with nothing to do to help. Just when you think that you hate this character so much no one can be worse believe me you will find worse ones.

Note: watch this if you want to cry cause it will do the job for you, and just make sure you're mentally ready for the seeing the ugly part of this world that we live in, a world where getting water in your bath is someone's biggest dream, a world where an innocent soul was gone in the evilest way without a law to avenge it. Where those st the bottom don't see justice.
