Let me get something really important out of the way. Alan Cumming, the actor known for everything from "Cabaret" to "Josie and the Pussycats" to "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," does not own a massive castle in Scotland, contrary to what he claims as the host of the hit reality competition show "The Traitors." The castle that's used as the setting of both "The Traitors US" and "The Traitors UK," the latter of which is hosted by English broadcaster Claudia Winkleman, is actually Ardross Castle in Scotland. Again, Cumming does not own it, despite his whole schtick about how he's allowing the players to stay in "his castle."

As a funny aside, the contestants themselves don't even actually spend the night in the castle.

Even if you're not really all that interested in the bizarro world of reality television, there is something about "The Traitors" ("The Traitors US" outside of the States) that just sucks you in. The show is based on the Dutch series "De Verraders" ("The Traitors" in Dutch) and it is one of only many, many official spin-offs, including "The Traitors UK," "The Traitors Australia," and the Swedish "Förrädarna." The reality series has become a massive hit just like its international brethren, following contestants as they play what is essentially a complex version of the party game often called "mafia" or "werewolf." 

In all of the games, there are a couple of murderers among the group who are able to "kill" other members in secret and everyone else tries to root out the killers. It's a lot of fun at parties and it's just as much fun to watch on Peacock...

The BBC’s hit reality TV show The Traitors’ third season has gone out with a bang. The murder mystery game set in a Scottish castle won an audience of 7.4million viewers, according to Barb audience figures supplied by overnights.tv.

This is well up on last year’s finale, which drew an audience of 6.9million.

The show, made by production company Studio Lambert, debuted in 2022 and sees a group of participants (producers prefer the word “players” over “contestants”) holed up in a Scottish castle.
