Doctor Who star Nicola Coughlan's comedy series Big Mood has received an exciting update. It was announced this week that the sitcom has been renewed for a second season.
Big Mood, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK and streams on Tubi in the US, features Coughlan and Lydia West (It's a Sin) as lifelong friends, Maggie and Eddie respectively. In the first season, their friendship faced strain for the first time due to mental health pressures as well as personal and professional drama. On Feb. 11, Channel 4 announced that both actors would be returning for more episodes, with series creator Camilla Whitehil back as showrunner.

The following contains spoilers for Doctor Who, Season 1, Episode 8, "Empire of Death," now streaming on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer.
The ultimate reveal of Ruby Sunday's mother on Doctor Who borrowed its thematic inspiration from, of all things, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Last Jedi.
Per Comicbook.com, showrunner Russell T Davies discussed similarities between Doctor Who's finale "Empire of Death" and how The Last Jedi handled Rey's parentage via the episode's BBC iPlayer commentary, emphasizing the meaningfulness of its characters being ordinary amidst their fantastical conflicts. "The second film said that [Rey] was nothing special, there was nothing special about her parentage She was just an ordinary person with the Force," Davies explained, adding that, compared to Star Wars: Episode XI - The Rise of Skywalker's Palpatine reveal, "I really loved the version where she wasn't special. And there was much rejoicing.
In an emotional rollercoaster of announcements, the BBC revealed that showrunner Steven Moffat would be leaving Doctor Who after series 10, which they then announced would not begin until Spring 2017. The only new episode for 2016 will be the Christmas special.
Steven’s shoes will be filled by Chris Chibnall, far from a stranger to the series. In addition to numerous episodes of the series including the “mini-sode series” Pond Life, he’s written many episodes of Torchwood, and most recently was the creator and showrunner of the mystery series Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and many other Who-lumni.
Chibnall said, “Doctor Who is the ultimate BBC program: bold, unique, vastly entertaining, and adored all around the world. So it’s a privilege and a joy to be the next curator of this funny, scary and emotional family drama. I’ve loved Doctor Who since I was four years old,...

Our heads may be full of series seven finale The Name of the Doctor, but think back to mid-series closer The Angels Take Manhattan, and the unassuming extra scene following up the story of Brian Williams that followed six weeks afterwards.
Written by former Torchwood showrunner Chris Chibnall, the additional four and a half minutes weren't filmed, but sparingly animated with a voiceover by Arthur Darvill, and arguably, are all the more poignant for it.
We asked Chibnall how the terrific P.S. (which you can see below) came about...
Is it right that that P.S., the wonderful Doctor Who extra scene that came after The Angels Take Manhattan, came about because it was lobbied for by fans?

Interview Louisa Mellor 21 May 2013 - 07:00
We chatted to Broadchurch, Doctor Who, and Torchwood writer Chris Chibnall about success, fan theories, orange cagoules, and more...
Spoiler warning: this interview reveals the identity of the Broadchurch killer, and other series one plot details.
Years of keeping Doctor Who and Torchwood’s confidences must have been excellent preparation for the secrecy Chris Chibnall had to maintain throughout the run of his successful ITV drama, Broadchurch.
Part whodunit and part exploration of grief and loss, the David Tennant and Olivia Colman-starring series came to occupy a rare position in early 2013. Critics praised it, viewers watched it in their millions, and in its final weeks, online theories on the killer’s identity were just as widespread and meticulously constructed as anything you’d find in a Doctor Who comments section. Broadchurch fans united on Monday nights and poured reactions onto Twitter and Facebook during every ad break.

The Angels Take Manhattan

We knew going into this episode of "Doctor Who" that we'd be watching the penultimate appearance of Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as the Doctor's companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams. And we knew the title -- "The Power of Three" -- promised something special. This would be a hour devoted to Amy, Rory and The Doctor coming together to solve a crisis, right?
Surely we'd see how each of them have an important role to play in a storyline that delivers on the title's implicit promise: Three is better than one, or two. We'd nod our heads and think, "Yes, the Doctor is at his best with these companions." Because they're the companions we're watching right now, we love them dearly, and we're at the emotional high point of our relationship with them. We know they're going to leave, but we don't yet know how it will happen.

While we have seen a lot from Doctor Who‘s wild-west themed upcoming episode this week, not much has been revealed about the following one, The Power Of Three. Most of what we know comes from Steven Moffat‘s introduction to the episode to Radio Times earlier this month:
“The day the Earth got cubed. The year of the slow invasion. The time the Doctor came to stay.”
There have been many ways to invade the Earth, and the Doctor has seen them all. Or so he always thought – and then the human race wakes up one morning and discovers the world has been overrun by… small black cubes. Which then proceed to… do nothing much at all. A plan is afoot, humanity is endangered – but by what and how and, above all, when? For the first time in his world-saving career the Doctor has to call upon the least of his virtues: patience.

The Doctor attempts to help the Indian Space Agency about a runaway spaceship of Canadian size headed for Earth. Promising to stop it before it needs to be blown up, he picks up a few friends – Rory and Amy (and Rory’s dad, accidentally) big game hunter John Riddell, and already in his company, Queen Nefertiti of Egypt. They find the ship is a derelict space ark, originally from Earth, created by the Silurians. But where are they, and how did a mysterious and heartless trader named Solomon get control of the ship?
Arthur Darvill had it exactly right when he discusses the latest episode of Doctor Who in a promotional video – “It does what it says on the tin”. The Doctor’s got a gang, Amy has her own companions, Rory’s got his dad, Rory’s dad’s got balls in his pants, the ship’s got a surprising builder,...

With only four episodes of "Doctor Who" left before the Ponds exit the series, executive producer Steven Moffat has promised every installment will feel like a mini-movie, and "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" certainly delivered on that level. There were dinosaurs... on a spaceship. And the Doctor was trying something new: a gang.
It wasn't just Rory and Amy joining him on this adventure, it was also Rory's dad Brian (a perfectly cast Mark Williams, a.k.a. Mr. Weasley from the "Harry Potter" movies), the early 1900's hunter Riddell (Rupert Graves) and famed Egyptian Queen Nefertiti (Riann Steele) -- who all had important roles to play. And there was a memorable villain in the form of Solomon (David Bradley, also a familiar "Potter" face), a ruthless space pirate who exterminated the Silurians captaining the space ark that housed the dinosaurs.
Even with references to genocide, "Dinosaurs" was one of the...

Doctor Who, Series 7, Episode 2: “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship”
Written by Chris Chibnall
Directed by Saul Metzstein
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on BBC America
This week, on Doctor Who: The Doctor recruits a gang, including a Big Game hunter, Amy, Rory, Rory’s dad Brian, and Queen Nefertiti, to investigate a mysterious spaceship set to collide with the Earth
One of the great things about Doctor Who is its ability to morph genres week to week and season to season. What started as an educational children’s show has explored, at various points, buddy cop-style comedy, gothic horror, and high drama. For series seven, the focus seems to be foremost on fun and adventure and this episode delivers both in spades. It’s a well-paced story, with all of the new characters introduced and established in an economical opening few minutes. The story is refreshingly straightforward, with nary a twist in sight,...
