Malum is, according to its press release “a bold and expanded reimagining of the 2014 horror cult classic, Last Shift”. Now some may simply take that as a fancy way of saying it’s a remake of a film that’s less than ten years old. But there’s a difference between this and your average remake, it’s the work of the original director Anthony Diblasi and his co-writer Scott Poiley.
I considered revisiting Last Shift before watching Malum because while I remembered the basic plot and that I really liked the first hour then being let down by the final act, I didn’t recall a lot of the details. But, in part due to how knowing what to expect spoiled the impact of another recent reimagining,...

Here’s a first look at the powerful first trailer for Check Point.
Featuring a great lineup – William Forsythe, Fred Williamson, Kenny Johnson and Kane Hodder – the action-packed trailer debuted on Saturday at the Santa Fe Comic-Con.
Check Point is set in the mood of today’s headlines when a vagrant discovers a sleeper terrorist cell is in a small town where everyone knows one another, or so they think they do. Justice seems lost, as an insurgent attack is threatening to escalate into a full-blown Us invasion, a team of unlikely heroes must rise up to fight the enemy and protect their country from the most unlikely enemy “ourselves”… Facing the obstacles of a closed-knit community, they each find inner strength and determination as their only choice. Whether an insurgent sleeper cell, or a lone individual with a gun, heroism is seldom sought out, it merely is the way...

Hey guys, Mark here. As my comics addiction turned much more literal last week and I ended up buying 10 new books at the store (along with attempting to inject Hawkeye pages into my bloodstream with my trusty [hip drug] needle, which is Exactly as hard as it sounds), I decided to go for brevity and cut my contributions down to the barest of bones.
To wit: 10 words apiece. Yeah, I’m kind of a critical maverick.
26th June Jack
X-Men #2, Brian Wood, Olivier Coipel, Marvel Comics
I enjoyed last month’s first issue in the new X-Men series and this second book continues at a similarly breakneck pace. Psychic bacteria alien thing Arkea has busted into the X-house and is causing all kinds of trouble by possessing Karima Shapandar, the Omega Sentinel. This didn’t mean much to me, but what impresses me about X-Men is that unlike many books (say, Age of Ultron,...

In his follow up to Emerging Past, director Thomas J. Churchill combines film noir with an impending zombie apocalypse in this new trailer for Lazarus.
Plus here’s a look at the making of the film.
1957 Hollywood CA. A telegram arrives at the office of George Lazarus, an Insurance Investigator to investigate a suspicious claim that was just put in by Deadly Sin Cigarette Company. Lazarus begins to schedule routine interviews with the twelve employees that are named on this claim. He learns that they all had just gotten fired for being sick at the job. …He never makes it back to the office. What seemed to be a normal Fraud Investigation case … may have turned out to be the beginning of the end for the human race.
His fiancée Bethany begins to worry as she realizes that he hasn’t been back at the office since early that morning when she last saw him.

Filmmaker Thomas J. Churchill provided us an exclusive first look at the new trailer, behind-the-scenes video, and stills for his upcoming and ambitious zombie/period feature Lazarus last night, and we think you should have a look at the film's sexy, 1950’s goodness.
Set in 1957 Hollywood, writer/director Churchill’s Lazarus revolves around the character of George Lazarus (Ray Capuana), an insurance investigator who schedules routine interviews with twelve employees of the Deadly Sin Cigarette Company upon receipt of a rather suspicious insurance claim. In the process he learns that all twelve had recently been fired for being sick at the job, and then subsequently and without a trace, he disappears. Two weeks later, with Lazarus now a missing person, his heart-sick fiancée, Bethany Loomis (Natalie Victoria), along with Chip (Kevin Franklin), undertakes the task of finding him. Spoiler Alert: Do not read on unless you've seen the Season 1 finale of "Arrow," titled "Sacrifice."
The shocking "Arrow' finale saw Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) make the ultimate sacrifice to save ex-girlfriend Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), ending the season with a heartbroken Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) mourning the death of his best friend as half of Starling city crumbled around him. So where does the hit CW show go in Season 2?
HuffPost TV spoke to executive producer Marc Guggenheim about the events of "Sacrifice" and the plans for Season 2, which will return to Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in October, per The CW's new 2013-2014 schedule.
Tommy was the one character who I absolutely wasn't worried for going into the finale -- so congratulations on totally shocking me.
Thank you! If Twitter is any indication, we managed to surprise a lot of people and that’s really hard to do...

It seemed rather fitting that we hit the set of writer, director and producer Thomas J. Churchill’s ambitious zombie feature Lazarus on Easter Sunday, and we’re glad we did.
Battling the throngs of Sunday worshippers who’d clogged Los Angeles’ concrete arteries for Hollywood Bowl’s Easter Mass, we made our way to Tarzana, CA, where filmmaker Churchill had set up shop at Waggin’ Tails Lounge, a dog grooming facility owned by his cousin, Kathie Fiorillo. Shooting day twelve of thirteen on the Canon 5D, Churchill was prepping a scene which would feature the re-animation of the dead, and while it may be poised to enter the already bloated sub-genre of independent zombie cinema, readers, do please take note: Lazarus seems to be hell-bent on offering an entirely fresh take.
