Stars: Danny Trejo, Adrian Paul, Nick Chinlund, Kevin Grevioux, Fahim Fazli, Cleveland Berto, Reka Rene, Cleo Anthony, Masika Kalysha, Essam Ferris | Written by Matthew Hensman, Gustavo Sainz de la Peña | Directed by Cire Hensman, Matthew Hensman

Originally filmed as simply The Prey, The Prey: Legend of Karnoctus, had the unwieldy subtitle added to help distinguish it from everything from Norman J Warren’s exploitation gem Prey to the 80s slasher The Prey and the more recent Cambodian riff on The Most Dangerous Game also titled The Prey. The film starts in a cave somewhere in Afghanistan as something large and furry gives US forces a helping hand by taking out a couple of Taliban soldiers.

Elsewhere in the area, a US squad is on patrol, but the fireworks are being provided by a well-armed group of mercenaries including Vega, Gunnar, Tagger and Reid. But they’re not working as security contractors,...

Watch: Danny Trejo Won’t Die In The Prey: Legend Of The Karnoctus Trailer
Image
There are a few types of movie that will never go out of style. Zombie horrors, romantic thrillers with inappropriate age gaps between the leads, dire comedies where attractive twenty-somethings pretending to be teenagers have lots of sex, and monster movies where a band of hardened soldiers travel to a part of the world that the Us considers uncivilized and are picked off one by one by a CGI monstrosity.

The Prey: Legend of the Karnoctus is another of the latter, and a new trailer provides us with a good idea of what we can expect from it. The story sees a platoon of American soldiers in Afghanistan searching for the Taliban like it’s 2006, only to become trapped in a cave wherein resides an unstoppable monster that begins stalking the grunts and killing them in bloody messes, until it’s down to aging badass Vega (Danny Trejo) to take...

Cambodian Action Film ‘The Prey’ From ‘Jailbreak’ Director Gets UK Distribution Deal
Adrian Paul, Danny Trejo, Nick Chinlund, Kevin Grevioux, Morgan Schmidt, Cire Hensman, Matthew Hensman, Lance Miccio, Fahim Fazli, David Velez, Mingyu Chu, Gustavo Sainz de la Peña, and Matt Musgrove in The Prey: Legend of Karnoctus (2022)
Exclusive: Fledgling UK firm Lightbulb Film Distribution has picked up Busan and London Film Festival survival-thriller The Prey, which has been described as Cambodia’s first $1M-budgeted action movie.

Lightbulb acquired the foreign-language title last week from Raven Banner at their first market, the Efm in Berlin. Set in the Cambodian jungle, the well-received genre pic is writer-director Jimmy Henderson’s follow-up to Jailbreak, Netflix’s first Cambodian acquisition.

Gu Shang Wei and Vithaya Pansringarm (Only God Forgives) lead cast with fight choreography handled by Lucy and Doctor Strange stunt performer Jean-Paul Ly. In The Prey, undercover Chinese cop Xin is on a secret international mission when a surprise raid puts him in a remote jungle prison where the visitors are wealthy thrill seekers and prisoners are pawns in a high stakes game of human hunting human.

“We’re delighted to be bringing The Prey to UK audiences later in the year,...

December 18th Blu-ray & DVD Releases Include The Predator, The House With A Clock In Its Walls, Venom, Dracula: Prince Of Darkness
Greetings, everyone! Welcome to what is the final Blu-ray and DVD recap of 2018, as it seems like we have no major genre home media releases coming home next week on Christmas. That being said, the year is ending on a strong note, as we have a number of essential titles hitting various formats this Tuesday.

Scream Factory is keeping busy with their Collector’s Edition releases of Dracula: Prince of Darkness as well as John Carpenter’s Starman (two of my personal favorites!), and Arrow Video has put together a stellar Special Edition of Bloody Birthday for this week as well. As far as recent theatrical titles go, The House With a Clock in Its Walls, The Predator, A Simple Favor, and Venom all arrive on various formats this Tuesday, and if you’re a completist, there’s a 4-film collection of the Predator movies that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has assembled,...

Film Review: The Prey (2018) by Jimmy Henderson
Jimmy Henderson, the man who brought us the exuberant “Jailbreak” is back with “The Prey”, a movie that – as an old advert used to claim – “it does what it says on the tin”; it has in facts all the ingredients of the classic action movie that the fans of the genre expect. “The Prey” had its World Premiere at Busan International Film Festival, was screened at the BFI London Film Festival and is now doing the Festival run and it is expected to have a good commercial future life.

Newcomer Gu Shang Wei plays Xin, an undercover Interpol operative who is investigating a phone scam that is spreading in China and seems to be based in Phnom Penh. When Cambodian Police raids the operation’s headquarter and arrest everybody, Xin has to go along with it in order to keep his cover. The bunch of arrested criminals are sent to...

’80s Slasher Classic Bloody Birthday Available on Blu-ray December 18th From Arrow Video
The 1981 Slasher Classic Bloody Birthday will be available on Blu-ray December 18th From Arrow Video

The Bad Seed meets Halloween in this deliciously twisted early 80s slasher offering directed by Ed Hunt (The Brain) and starring the always loveable Lori Lethin.

Debbie, Curtis and Steven may seem cute as buttons. But their angelic facade conceals the wicked, murderous streak given to them having all been born under the same solar eclipse. With the grown-ups around them blissfully unaware of their little darlings homicidal tendencies, the evil brats begin to bump off the adults one-by-one. By gun. By arrow. By cake. Bye-bye!

Mixing the killer-kid subgenre with elements of the then-booming slice-and-dice movie, 1981 s Bloody Birthday shocks and appalls with its scenes of young children shooting, strangling and bludgeoning their way through the local population. They sure don t (and can t!) make em like this anymore.

Jimmy Henderson's latest action offering, The Prey, will have its world premiere in Korea at the Busan Iff. Anticipating its premiere the production released a new character composite style poster today. It is more in keeping with the action genre, this composite style, and stands in stark contrast to the more photogenic teaser poster in the gallery below.   The production will release a clip in the future we are told, so keep you eyes peeled for that too.    Front and centre are left to right Jailbreak's Dy Sonita, our hero Gu Shangwei, and one of the most recognizable faces in South Asian cinema, Vithaya Pansringram (Only God Forgives and River). San Antonio Offers Film Incentive on Top of Texas Cash Grant
In addition to states, several U.S. cities also offer incentives to lure producers. One of them, San Antonio, home of the Alamo, boasts an array of unique locations, including its bustling River Walk attraction, colonial Spanish architecture and an arts district. San Antonio also delivers a 7.5% rebate that’s stackable with a Texas cash grant of up to 22.5%.

The incentive is available through the San Antonio Film Commission. There are no permit fees for shooting in more than 250 city-owned properties. Plus the commission offers help with location scouting, government liaison services, crew and resource information, and casting calls.

Specifically, San Antonio’s incentive delivers a 7.5% rebate on approved spend within the jurisdiction. The rebate can be combined with the generous cash grant provided by the state of Texas, which can range up to 22.5%

Producers who want to avail themselves of San Antonio’s rebate must spend a minimum of...
