But there are plenty of attention-grabbing originals in 2025: “Pixar’s sci-fi “Elio,” DreamWorks’ “Dog Man,” Sony Pictures Classics’ “The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol,” and Laika’s highly anticipated “Wildwood” (a tentative release). To celebrate a quarter century of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” Nickelodeon pulled out all the stops at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, starting with an epic Hall H panel.

Mark Hamill made a surprise appearance to reveal that he’d be voicing The Flying Dutchman in the upcoming fourth SpongeBob film, “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” out in 2025. “He’s the most fearsome goofball pirate you’ve ever seen. The movie is more cerebral. It’s more thoughtful, intellectually challenging. No, I’m just yanking your chain. It’s inspired silliness from start to finish.”

Sandy Cheeks is ready to take center stage.

One of the more memorable characters on “SpongeBob SquarePants,” a squirrel who lives in a dome underwater (and wears a scuba suit when she needs to), is about to star in her very own movie. The release of the fourth Spongebob Squarepants movie has been delayed by six months, moving from May 2025 to December 2025. The delay does not affect the planned release of Spongebob Squarepants season 15. The film's release change coincides with other Paramount movies, including Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two and A Quiet Place: Day One, also experiencing delays.

The fourth Spongebob Squarepants movie has been pushed back by six months, joining other Paramount movies in a massive scheduling reshuffle. The film, titled The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants, is set to be the fourth theatrically-released movie in the franchise. When it was first announced, the movie had set a release window for May 2025.

Pink doesn't look back fondly at her SpongeBob SquarePants song, "We've Got Scurvy."

Back in 2006, "We've Got Scurvy" was featured as a music video in the Season 6 episode "Truth or Square." Performed by Pink, the song was also included in the album SpongeBob's Greatest Hits. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Pink stated how "So What" and "Get the Party Started" are among her best singles. She then brought up "We've Got Scurvy" as her pick for her worst single, feeling it was a "real mistake" to ever make that song.

Nickelodeon has treated cartoon fans with a huge announcement as the long-running beloved animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants, has been renewed for an additional season.

While the show's Season 13 just concluded its run, and Season 14 is already expected to be right around the corner, a fifteenth season, encompassing 26 episodes, thus, bringing the total count to overall 345 episodes, has been confirmed.

Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, unveiled the news of the additional exploration of Bikini Bottom's aquatic world with SpongeBob and his crew of friends including Patrick, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, and Squidward. Season 15 will also coincide with the show's 25th anniversary celebration in 2024. The announcement could also be deemed as a direct result of the recently concluded Writers' Guild strike.
