Akhtar, who co-founded Excel Entertainment, is known for writing, directing and producing the 2006 box office hut Don, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra and its sequel, Don 2, in 2011. A third film in the trilogy, Don 3: The Final Chapter is currently in pre-production and will star Ranveer Singh. Akhtar reunited with Chopra in 2019 for biographical drama The Sky is Pink, which premiered in Toronto.

The multi-hyphenate is also the star of films including 2008 Indian musical drama Rock On!, in which he made his on-screen acting and singing debut and the 2011 road trip drama Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which he wrote and produced. Vicky revealed that his father, now a renowned action director, faced severe hardships in Punjab before moving to Mumbai in 1978. Despite having a Master’s degree in English literature, Sham Kaushal was jobless and once even contemplated suicide. Popular choreographer Ganesh Acharya, who has made the who’s who of Bollywood dance to his steps, recalled his rags to riches journey in the industry. The choreographer said that the reason behind his success was his “quality” of work.

“My life began in a slum, but today I stand as a choreographer. I was the youngest choreographer in Bollywood, and the sole reason for this achievement was quality,” Acharya said during the Youth for Quality Bharat Festival.

The 52-year-old choreographer added that it was the presence of “quality” in him that enabled him to fulfill his “dreams”.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s directorial ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, which has completed 10 years this month, will be re-released in a special way, significantly for hearing and speech-impaired people, with the special sign language, in 30 cities across India.

Released in 2013, the Farhan Akhtar starrer traced the inspiring journey of the Indian Sprint legend late Milkha Singh, and how he overcame many agonizing obstacles in order to become a world champion, Olympian, and one of India’s most iconic athletes.

The makers will pay tribute to late Milkha Singh by re-releasing the inspirational biographical sports drama on August 6, in selected theaters. The film will be screened for the hearing and speech-impaired people, in the PVR theaters, and will be showcased with the special sign language.

In the video, Akhtar could be seen packing a punch in the boxing ring. He captioned the video: "Let's start at the very beginning .. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan and Mehra, the film also features Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal.

This is the second time that Farhan is being directed by Mehra.

Mumbai, March 19 (Ians) Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who has directed films such as "Rang De Basanti", "Delhi 6" and "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", attended a cultural festival on Friday, where he reflected on the evolution of the art of storytelling.

Talking at Arth: The Cultural Fest, the filmmaker whose last directorial was "Mere Pyaare Prime Minister", said: "Storytelling is not new and has been here for thousands of years. Travellers in the olden days used to entertain each other with stories about their countries and travels. Even when we look at the etching on the ancient caves, there were storytellers there as well. From there, it moved on and got the expression of folk, songs, writing, photography and then it progressed to moving pictures."

Narrowing down to Indian cinema, the filmmaker is of the opinion that Indian filmmaking has always adapted to the country's emotional state of mind.

Mumbai, March 10: The Farhan Akhtar starrer boxing drama Toofaan is all set to release digitally on May 21. The Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directorial stars Farhan as a boxer, alongside Mrunal Thakur, Paresh Rawal, Supriya Pathak Kapur and Hussain Dalal. The film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

Actress Mrunal Thakur feels that very few filmmakers give equal footing to women characters in their movies.

According to her, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is one of those filmmakers who treats female characters in their films well.

"There are very few filmmakers who envision a story that gives its women characters an equal footing. In the best of Rakeysh's works, one can see how beautifully he layers his women. Be it Soha Ali Khan's Sonia in 'Rang De Basanti' or the female characters in 'Delhi 6' or 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', his women are memorable," said Mrunal.

She will be seen in Mehra's next film "Toofan" alongside Farhan Akhtar.

Since the time Sacred Games released on the Ott streaming platform Netflix, there has been a debate on whether the content on these platforms should be kept in check or let to run loose.

The Indian Cinema Attraction Fund has been launched with the aims of providing skills development opportunities for local industry, including members of the Victorian Indian community, and to showcase the state’s regions to Indian audiences.
