For cinephiles, Curtis Mayfield created a legacy in marble and stone. The sheer power of Super Fly as a score cannot be ignored. It’s a seminal soundtrack, regardless of culture, and helps center The Makings of Curtis Mayfield as the documentary brings in dozens of musicians to speak on Mayfield’s prodigious talent. Directed by musical phenom and Oscar-winner H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson), we explore the musical brilliance of an icon. However, while watching musicians jam and talk shop about Mayfield’s influence is incredible, the number of talking head interviews causes the picture to lose focus.
The Makings of Curtis Mayfield – The Plot
As he rose to prominence in the 1960s as a member of The Impressionists, Mayfield soon showed his ambition and talent far exceeded his place in the industry. Over the next decade, he would break out as one of music’s most exciting voices, and his...

With the horror genre, sometimes less is more. Tension and emotion can carry a film through a lot of weaknesses. Julia Max’s The Surrender coasts on strong performances and direction to overcome the shortcomings of an occasionally shallow and generic script, making it a great entry in the canon of recent indie horror.
The Surrender Review
The movie follows a woman and her mother grieving after the death of the family’s patriarch as they consult a mysterious stranger who makes a unique promise: to bring their recently departed loved one back from the dead. Séancé horror films like this are easy to mess up because they can often border on goofy, but for the most part, Julia Max’s directorial debut manages to achieve a tone that feels genuinely sinister and also very effectively sad.

“SNL” host Dave Chappelle opened his monologue on Saturday night by recounting how hard he tried to get out of hosting the show, then launched into a nearly 17-minute set that touched on everything from the LA wildfires and Trump to Palestine and Jimmy Carter.
Chappelle said that in October, Lorne Michaels called and asked him to host the first “Saturday Night Live” show after the presidential election “and I said nah I’m cool, I got all this money and stuff,” the comedian recounted. Chappelle said he finally agreed and “the moment I said yes, LA burst into flames.”
Thus began a segment of the monologue that elicited some uncomfortable laughter.
“This is the most expensive natural disaster that’s ever happened in United States history. And you want to know why I think that is? Because people in LA have nice stuff. I could burn 40,000 acres in Mississippi for like $600 or $700,” he joked.

When you think of great film trilogies, you probably think of Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" adaptation or the original "Star Wars" movies — but if Richard Linklater's "Before" trilogy doesn't immediately come to mind as well, you should definitely take some time to check out this stunning, deeply emotional, and brilliantly filmed movies centering on two lovers at various points throughout their lives.
Based on a real experience in Linklater's life (specifically, a night where he and a woman he'd just met wandered through the city of Philadelphia and talked until the sun rose), the first "Before" movie, 1995's appropriately titled "Before Sunrise," opens on a European train and introduces us to Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy). Both are leaving Budapest and, after striking up a conversation, they impulsively both leave the train in Vienna, walking through the gorgeous Austrian capital and talking about life,...

The Great Indian Kapil Show Ott Verdict (Week 6): Kajol & Singham Again’s Mishmash Doesn’t Help! ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
The Great Indian Kapil Show, season 2 has been struggling for viewership ever since the show started for the second time, with Alia Bhatt opening this season with her Jigra team. However, nothing has been in place for Kapil Sharma and his team, despite delivering some good episodes.
Blame it on the change of the platform that is not getting the audiences this show targets or blame it on the monotonous tone of the show, but things have not been on the brighter end for the chat show.
The sixth episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show welcomed Kajol, Kriti Sanon and Shaheer Sheikh along with Do Patti writer Kanika Dhillon. While it was another snoozefest with everyone trying superhard to tickle some bone, nothing has been tackled propely it seems.

The What We Do in the Shadows cast features a whos-who of seasoned comedy veterans, exciting up-and-coming talent, and scene-stealing supporting players as its vampiric characters. Based on the movie of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is a mockumentary series about the mundane everyday lives of a group of vampires living in New York. The premise of a vampire-infested mockumentary might not have sustained a sketch in the hands of lesser creators, but Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, and co. have managed to make an acclaimed feature film and an equally acclaimed TV show out of that concept.
By introducing different kinds of vampires and entirely new supernatural species, the TV version of What We Do in the Shadows has expanded the world of the movie. The limited cast of the film has been replaced with a sprawling ensemble, played by both promising up-and-comers and prolific comedians.

The show from Office creator Greg Daniels and Michael Koman has added Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key and Eric Rahill to its ensemble. They join the previously cast Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, along with Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young.

The untitled series will feature the same documentary crew that made Dunder Mifflin famous searching for a new subject when they discover a dying, historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.

Sleater-Kinney have dropped a new song, “This Time,” one of three fresh additions to the upcoming deluxe edition of their latest album, Little Rope.
“This Time” is a pensive, steady tune driven by warbling keys and keening guitar, though it does briefly kick into double-time rock and roll over drive. In a statement, Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker said “This Time” was the last song they wrote for Little Rope and also “the last to get cut once we decided we preferred the evenness and succinctness of ten songs.

Steve Coogan is reprising his iconic role of Alan Partridge for new spoof documentary And Did Those Feet… Here are the details.
The BBC has announced a new Alan Partridge series, which will take the form of a spoof documentary called And Did Those Feet… With Alan Partridge. It’s once again written by Steve Coogan and brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons, with the latter also directing. The official description of the series reads as follows:
In his new documentary series – And Did Those Feet… With Alan Partridge – we follow the beloved and, to be fair, revered broadcaster as he reintegrates into life in Britain after a year working in Saudi Arabia. But what begins as a documentary about homecoming soon morphs into something more personal as Alan realises that the happiness he thought he’d feel at being back in Norwich just hasn’t materialised.
Something’s missing.

The last time BBC audiences saw Alan Partridge, he was being refused entry to Broadcasting House. The suits up in their ivory offices didn’t want a truth-talking troublemaker like him around, a man of the people, for the people, near some people.
Also, he’d forgotten his security pass.
Now, it’s a new chapter for Partridge on the Beeb. Following his 2020 – 2021 stint as co-presenter on weeknight light chat magazine programme ‘This Time’, he’s back with a fresh format. And Did Those Feet… with Alan Partridge is a new BBC documentary series following the presenter’s reintegration into life in Britain after spending a year working in Saudi Arabia. Will Norwich greet its prodigal son with a fatted calf or a cold shoulder?
As a reminder, Partridge’s time at ‘This Time’ ended in June 2021 when he enacted an on-air rebellion in the style of Network’s Howard Beale.
